Chapter 37
LIAM
-I know. But we need a solid plan. We can’t let this affect you. Shane is involved now too, and her safety is the priority. -Gigit’s gaze fixes on me, her eyes reflecting the gravity of the situation.
The mere mention of her name sends a shiver down my spine. Protecting Shane is as crucial as protecting my pack. I let the emotion wash over me for a moment, but then I take a deep breath, focusing my mind on the decisions I need to make, convinced I won’t let anything or anyone threaten what I’ve built.
Uncertainty looms over me as the meeting concludes. I need to see Shane, to feel her presence to calm my mind and remind myself that even though shadows try to invade my life, there is light and warmth in it.
I check the time on my phone. I know a lot is coming, but I find the courage to reach out to her.
-Hello… -Shane’s response makes me feel like the world stops for an instant.
-Little wolf, it’s Liam.
-Uh-huh, I can see that -she whispers.
-I’m downstairs. -The words come out of my mouth with sincerity. I want her to know I’m here.
-Downstairs? For what? -The confusion in her voice makes me smile.
-I want you to come stay in the attic again. I want to see you… -The uncertainty, a strange feeling I’m not used to, weighs on my chest.
-Really? -Her response is like a long-awaited whisper, and I know I’ve made the right choice. My wolf is more eager than I am to see our mate, so much that I’m going a little crazy at the thought of letting him out. We desperately need her, and now that the mating heat is approaching, the need to have her close grows even stronger.
-Yes, really. I’m here, Little Wolf. -There’s strength in my voice, a call to the connection we’ve begun to establish.
-Okay… -she replies, and that word sounds like a melody that brings relief to the shadows threatening us.
-Perfect. I’ll wait for you, then. -The smile in my voice is clear even to me, and I know she has noticed it too.
The call ends. My heart races as I wait. In my mind, I imagine how she’ll look when she comes out. The door opens and suddenly, there she is.
Shane appears clad in a flowing dress of a deep blue tone that highlights the intensity of her eyes, which sway between a light brown and a captivating green. The fabric moves gently as she advances, hugging her generous curves harmoniously. Her figure, with large breasts and a voluptuous backside that confidently stands out, perfectly complements her wide hips. Shane’s black hair falls in soft waves over her shoulders, shining under the moonlight with an almost ethereal glow. Every step she takes seems to fill the space with its own light; her essence is hypnotizing and energetic. I can’t help it, a wave of admiration washes over me and makes me forget, for a moment, the worries weighing on my chest.
The heat rises within me, feeling as if my wolf is awakening, eager to be close to her. He recognizes her as his mate, which stirs a mix of excitement and desire in me. Her soft, delicate fragrance envelops me, creating a bond that only we understand. In this moment, I don’t care that she doesn’t know my true nature; all I want is to protect her and make her feel as special as she truly is.
-Liam -she whispers, her voice filled with joy, making the weight of my responsibilities lighten, even if just for a moment.
As she approaches, my wolf instincts pulse strongly, wishing for her to bridge the gap between us and embrace me. The transformation I’ve been engulfed in fades, replaced by the need for her closeness. I take a deep breath, ready to face not just the darkness surrounding us, but also the brilliant light that is Shane.
The murmurs of the city fade away, and in that moment, the world seems to reduce to just her and me, under the glow of the moon.
Unable to resist the temptation, I move closer to her and take her by the waist, leaning in to give her a kiss, a small glimpse of what I feel for her. Her lips are soft, warm, exquisite. She stands there, stunned; her eyes widen while her face turns a beautiful shade of pink. I love seeing how that subtle reaction reveals what my kiss has awakened in her.
As our lips part, my heart races. I smile at her, hoping to etch that moment into her memory. Then I reach for the car door and open it.
-Come in, beautiful -I invite her, taking her bag and throwing it into the back seat, feeling a mix of pride and desire.
She gets into the vehicle, and as I adjust myself behind the wheel, the tension in the air grows. The drive to the attic, across the city, is brief; or perhaps I was just driving too fast. The elevator ascends leisurely to the top floor. As we rise, our eyes meet in soft flickers of complicity.
-I love your apartment -Shane exclaims as soon as she steps into the attic, her voice filled with admiration and joy.
-Yeah, you have to like it because you redecorated it -I respond, giving her a playful glance that makes her smile, as I set her bag aside by the main entrance-. Have you eaten yet? -I ask, moving into the space.
-Yeah… -she says, although her tone isn’t entirely convincing.
-I haven’t -I let slip with a light laugh, creating a light atmosphere between us.
-Would you like me to make you something? -she offers, showing me a mischievous smile.
I can’t help but laugh, feeling the situation becoming more surreal.
-Go ahead, chef -I encourage her, letting her take control of the kitchen.
