After the morning meeting, Ariel went back to her office. She was neck deep in reading documents when she suddenly remembered her Aunt. She quickly put a call across to her. Hearing Ariel’s voice, Joana Emrys sounds happy “You don’t have to worry too much about me, I’m living well! The hospital is treating me better that I even get to stay in the VIP room; the doctors are very considerate of me.”
“Really? That’s good, I’m worried about your condition”. Ariel couldn’t bring herself to tell her Aunt she had been sold by Timothy Ann, but she’s happy the only family she has left is still alive.
“Don’t worry about my condition, I’m fine”
“Um, you are always able to convince me with your words. I’m relieved, Aunt Joana, you have to be healthy for me. I wish I had the ability to make you live up to a hundred years.”
Joana Emrys laughed “I’m still alive today thanks to you”
If she hadn’t agreed to marry Rex Anderson, who helped foot the medical bills when Timothy Ann refused to fulfill his promise, it could be said that it was only because of Rex Anderson that her Aunt was able to survive.
“Aunt, live well for me. If your nurse or doctor makes you angry, tell me, don’t hold back anything from me! You are not only my Aunt but my mother, so I will take care of you in every possible way.”
“I’m happy to hear I actually have a daughter. I’ve been waiting to hear that a long time ago. I’ve been worried about you these days since I didn’t see you, but I’m afraid to call you because I know you’re busy. Now I won’t hold back in the future knowing I have a daughter who cares so much about me. If you’re free, call me more. I miss you”
“Aun… mom, I’m going back to work” Ariel quickly wiped away her tears.
“Go, go, work is important”. After hanging up the call, she felt her head aching. Determined to power through the workload on her table, she tried to ignore the persistent pain, but it only intensified.
Feeling the need for relief as she was unable to bear it any longer, Ariel reached into her bag, a stylish Christian Dior leather bag, her fingers fumbling through the items until she found a plastic container. The medicine bottle crinkled as she pulled it out, the label bearing the name of a painkiller, Ariel unscrewed the cap, the slight crinkle of the protective seal breaking the dead silence in her office.
She took out a single pill into her palm, studied it for a moment before tossing it into her mouth. She unscrewed a bottle of water and the cool sensation of the water followed, washing down the pill as she swallowed. Closing her eyes briefly, she leaned back in her chair hoping for quick relief.
Ariel took a deep breath as the medicine began to work.
“Ring! Ring”
“What did you want?” Ariel asked in a cold and dispassionate tone.
“Meet me at Delight eatery boot 3 in 5 minutes” Elvira Ann said authoritatively.
“Elvira, who do you think you are to order me around?”
“If you don’t come, I will go directly and flush your mother’s ashes that I have here with me down the toilet”
Ariel rushed out of the office as she made her way to the eatery.
“Sister, you should sit down and eat. I ordered you some food.”
Ariel glanced at the table and saw that there were varieties of food laid on the table. Most of the food there was her favorite.
“Where are my mother’s ashes?”
“I didn’t bring it”
“Elvira Ann” Ariel glared at Elvira with a clenched jaw.
“You don’t dare eat the food, scared I might poison you?”
Ariel looked at Elvira and felt she looked scarier than she thought.
“Sister, you should be afraid of what I can do. I slept with your childhood sweetheart, and now I have a baby growing in my body”. Elvira lifted her clothes, touched her belly and looked at Ariel with a mocking gaze. “Our engagement is the day after tomorrow, sis.”
“That’s great may your union be blessed. I don’t need you to show me your belly. I’m also a woman. If I want a child, my husband can give it to me.”
She covered her mouth and giggled.
“Ariel, this is the best joke I’ve heard this year, you tell such good jokes to amuse me. Have you forgotten your husband is crippled? Oh! The last time you said you and your husband did it in different positions, why haven’t you gotten pregnant?”
“I don’t want to talk to you about this.”
Ariel shouted at Elvira.
She stood up ready to go out. Elvira pulled her arm. “Do not be in haste to leave. I’m not done talking”
“Whatever it is, you have to say it quickly. I have work to do at the company”
“Ariel Ann, you’re a loser to me the same way your mother was a loser to my mother. We came into the family to take away everything from you”
Ariel looked at Elvira in front of her and realized she was more terrifying than she thought.
“I’m not interested in talking to you.”
Ariel flung her arms away, to free herself from Elvira.
Elvira was pushed to the ground.
“You’re nothing but a scheming bit*h, and I’m not scared of you”
“Elvira” A voice came from the doorway.
Ariel raised her head and looked towards the door where Damien was standing.
“Damien, please save our baby, ouch! Ouch! My bell.. it hurts” Elvira, whose gaze was fierce moments ago, suddenly turned pale.
Damien hurriedly went to help Elvira, who was lying on the ground with tears in her eyes.
Ariel looked at Elvira and smiled “Such a good actress”. She stood there watching how affectionate Damian was to Elvira.
“Are you okay?”
“It looks like she’s in a lot of pain”, Ariel said.
“Damien, it hurts.”
Damien looked at Elvira’s clothes and saw blood.
“My love, you will be fine. I will send you to the hospital”, Damian said.
“Damien, our child, please save our child.. Nothing must happen to our chi…”
“Stop talking, nothing will happen to our child”, Damian said, and then picked up Elvira.
“Damian, please don’t let the news of my pregnancy get out, just say that I collapse due to stress if it gets to the media. Tell our family it was an accident. I don’t want to pursue the matter.”
“Damian, it’s not what you think! Ariel shouted after them.
“Ariel, you should be grateful Elvira doesn’t want to pursue the matter. Leave, I’m sending her to the hospital. If my parent sees you they will scold you.”
She looked on as Damian rushed Elvira to the hospital.
