“What are you going to do, Lily?” Malia asked as they got closer to the McCalls mansion.
“My name is Nadia.” She replied and Malia hurriedly nodded.
“What are you going to do?”
“Talk.” She replied.
A few minutes later, they arrived at the mansion. They both walked out of the car and headed in. Malia was scared as she walked next to her.
They got into the living room and met it empty, Nadia took a seat and looked around the house.
Mrs. McCall walked down the stairs and she froze when she got to the living room. She looked at Malia and noticed she was scared.
She was scared too but she put on a stern look as she walked fully into the living room.
“Hello, mother.” Nadia called dramatically with a smile. Mrs. McCall scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“What are you doing here?” She asked and Nadia smiled.
“Twelve years ago, I came into this house. I was on my knees, begging you for four hundred thousand dollars, do you remember?” She asked with a smile. Mrs. McCall ignored what she said and glared at her. Malia just stood and watched.
“Leave my house.” She ordered.
“I will leave but not yet.” She replied.
“I will get the guards to throw you out. Who do you think you are now? Just because you didn’t die and you managed to get rich, do you think you are on top of the world? Or do you think I would be scared of you just like everyone else?” Mrs. McCall raised her voice and moved closer to her.
Nadia remained calm as she relaxed on the couch.
Her phone suddenly beeped and she withdrew it from her jacket pocket, she stared at the text and smirked before looking up at her mother.
“In ten seconds, you would receive a call from your husband. Prepare yourself, it’s bad news.” Nadia said. Her mother was about to speak when her phone rang.
Malia rushed to the couch and picked up the phone then handed it to her mother. Mrs. McCall glared at Nadia as she picked up the call.
“Tania, I am doomed. We lost it, we lost everything.” Her husband said and she furrowed her brows.
“What? What are you talking about?”
“I don’t know how it happened but I got scammed. The company isn’t ours anymore and my account was wiped and left with four hundred thousand dollars. That is all we have.” He explained.
Mrs. McCall felt her head spin, she ended the call and turned to Nadia angrily.
“You fucking… ”
“What? I tried. I left you and your family with four hundred thousand dollars. You guys can start a life with it.” She cut her off and stood up.
Mrs. McCall suddenly rushed to her and was about to hit her but Nadia caught her hand in the hair and tightened her grip on it which made her whimper in pain.
“There is just one reason why I won’t hit you now and it’s not because you are my mother. It’s because my father loved you and wouldn’t want that.” She said and let go of her hand.
At that moment, Mrs. McCall knew she lost it all. There was only one thing she loved most in this world. Money! She loved money so much she was desperate to do anything for it.
She fell to her knees immediately and held Nadia’s feet.
“Please, please. Don’t do this, you can’t do this to me.” She pleaded as tears welled up in her eyes.
Nadia stared down at her, she could have punished her more but she knew just draining her wealth would bring her to her knees.
“I’m sorry. I… I would do anything for you, I won’t hate you anymore. Please.” She cried.
Nadia glanced at Malia who looked scared before looking down at her mother.
She finally decided to ask her the question she had been curious to know the answer for years.
“Why do you hate me so much?” Nadia asked and her mother looked up at her in tears.
She shook her head in response as she cried. Since she wasn’t saying anything, Nadia turned to leave but her grip on her legs tightened.
“Your… your father hits me in your presence. You would watch him hit me till I passed out. The day I called the cops and they showed up, your father lied that I was on drugs and it was self-defense. Then the cops asked you and you said your father was telling the truth. I was so angry and sad that I had to leave.”
“What? I can’t even remember it happening.” Nadia replied.
“I know, you were so young and I guessed your father made you say it but I was too annoyed to think about it. Please, I’m sorry.” She pleaded in tears.
Nadia pulled away from her forcefully.
“Well, you can start a new life and think about it now. Have a nice life, Tania.” Nadia replied and walked out of the house.
Mrs. McCall broke down in tears and her daughter rushed to her.
