Chapter 23: A Book

Book:A Night With Him Published:2025-2-8

Lily and Axel continued with their meal in silence until his phone rang, he picked it up and placed it by his ear.

Lily looked at him as he picked up the call.

“I’m coming.” He said on the call and ended it. Lily raised her brow and watched him as he stood up.

“Where are you going?” She asked.

“I have to get to work, something came up.” He replied as he headed out.

“Should I wait till you get back?” She asked and he turned to her.

“You want to?”

“Hmm.” She replied and nodded.

“Don’t wait up. I might not be back till morning.” He replied and walked out before Lily could say anything else.

She sighed and continued with her meal, she was done with it and she decided to watch a movie for a while before going to bed.

THE NEXT DAY

MORNING

Lily flipped through the pages of the book Axel gave her to read, she started reading it immediately after she had breakfast.

Axel wasn’t home, she already asked a maid if he was in and she was informed that he left the house very early in the morning. He must have returned later in the night last night.

As Lily read the book, she suddenly heard a knock on her door and she looked up.

“Come in.” She said and the door opened revealing a maid and the doctor behind her.

“Ma’am, a doctor is here to see you.” The maid said and Lily nodded in response, the maid bowed and walked out of the room.

“Mrs. Blackwell.” The doctor called with a light smile and walked towards her, Lily dropped the book and sat up properly.

She was more scared than mad at the doctor, although Axel already informed her the doctor would be coming last night, she couldn’t help but still worry.

She couldn’t trust Axel in this aspect, he hurt her the last time with the help of the doctor.

“How are you feeling ma’am?” He asked as he dropped his kit, all Lily did was nod in response as she stared at him.

“I am just here to run a few tests to check if you are okay.”

“And to check if I am not pregnant anymore?” She added and the doctor sighed.

“I guess you found out.” He replied and slowly walked towards her. He felt bad and guilty for what he did but he had no choice, he had to do what Axel wanted.

“Shall we begin?” He asked and Lily gulped before nodding.

The doctor began the tests and Lily kept staring at everything he used on her closely, she wanted to be sure of what he was doing to her.

“We are almost done.” The doctor said after a while, he brought out a syringe and Lily hurriedly withdrew her hand from his grip.

“It’s nothing, ma’am. It is just a normal shot.” The doctor said and she ran her eyes on him. He was sitting opposite her on her bed.

“What is the shot for?” She asked.

“It’s more like a vitamin. I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you, ma’am.” Dr. Gerard assured.

“You did the last time.” She replied and the doctor nodded.

“I was only following Mr. Blackwell’s orders. I am sorry ma’am.” He replied and Lily stretched her hand to him again.

“Do you support abortion?” She suddenly and the doctor glanced at her as he searched for a vein in her hand.

“If my patient wants it then yes. But I don’t.” He replied and the middle pierced her skin, Lily hissed in pain.

“Sorry, just for a few seconds.” He replied and pulled out the syringe when he was done.

“Did you know it would hurt me that much?” She asked further.

“What?”

“The abortion. Did you know it would hurt that much?” She asked and he nodded in response.

“Yes.” He replied and she sighed, she stared at her arm for a few seconds before turning to him again.

“Am… am I still pregnant?” She asked.

“No ma’am. You are not.” He replied and she sighed, she was not sure if she really wanted a child. Maybe the abortion was a good thing after all.

“That will be all. Have a good day, Mrs. Blackwell.” The doctor told her and stood up.

“Thank you.” She muttered in response. He packed up his things and left, leaving Lily all alone again.

Lily picked up the book again and continued reading.

Hours passed and Lily was still reading the book, she couldn’t get enough of it. She had no idea of what she was reading, it was all confusing and a little disturbing to her but she kept on reading, hoping to understand it soon.

She had already left her room and was now walking around the living room as she read, her expressions every minute kept showing the book was disturbing her a lot. She also wondered why Axel would ask her to read such a disturbing book.

The door to the living room opened and Max walked in, Lily was too intrigued to realize someone walked in.

Max slowly walked to her and stared at her as he got closer. He noticed her expressions and he was curious to see what she was reading.

“If you don’t understand the book, just drop it.” Max said and she flinched, Max chuckled at how she reacted while Lily breathed heavily.

“You scared me.” She said and he chuckled again.

“Sorry. My bad.” He replied and she smiled at him.

“It’s fine.”

“So what are you reading? You seem confused.”

“Oh, Axel picked the book for me. He asked me to read it.” She replied and Max smiled.

“Axel picked a book for you to read?”

“Yes.” She replied and closed the book.

“And it is confusing?”

“Yes. I wonder if the things done in the book are legal.” She answered and Max chuckled.

“If it’s Axel that picked it, trust me, it’s not legal.” He replied and she laughed a little.

“So, can I see what it is about?” He asked and Lily hurriedly shook her head.

“No, never mind.” She replied and Max was surprised by her response.

“Really? Why? I just want to help. I might be able to explain some things about the book to you.” He said and Lily bit her lip.

She wanted to know so badly but she thought about how he would feel about the book. She might not understand what the book is about but one thing she understands about the book is how it made her feel.

It makes her feel the same way Axel made her feel in the hallway and his study.

How the hell will she explain that to Max?
