“Yeah, the McCalls.” Nora replied.
“I know you had a fight with their daughter at the party but it will be fine. Just ignore them.” Nora said and Lily nodded in response.
“Oh, and Max will be there too.” She added.
“Max is also a family friend too?”
“Well, yes. He and Axel have been friends since childhood.” Nora explained and Lily nodded again.
“So what exactly are you preparing me for?”
“The meals we will be having tonight. Rejecting a meal by your husband’s parents will be disrespectful so you have to eat whatever they offer.” Nora replied.
“Oh, I am getting better at eating weird meals. I have been eating the ones the maids prepare.” Lily replied and Nora laughed.
“They are not weird. They are normal.” She said and Lily smiled.
“Come on, we have a lot of eating to do.” Nora chuckled and pulled her towards the dining room.
The day was a little bit fun for Lily, Nora cheered her up and they both talked about a lot of things. Nora shared her experiences on trips with her and Lily imagined what it would be like to be on a vacation.
Nora left when it was an hour to dinner time to get ready, Lily was all alone again.
She decided not to ruin her mood by thinking so much even though she couldn’t forget she was pregnant a day ago.
The maids got her ready as usual, by the time they were done, it was dusk already.
Lily walked out of her room and got down the stairs, Axel wasn’t there yet which meant he wasn’t ready. She couldn’t stand and wait for him so she took a seat instead.
After a few minutes, he finally showed up and walked out of the house. He didn’t spare her a glance not to talk of having a conversation with her.
Lily felt hurt but she shrugged it off, she walked out of the house and met him waiting in the car already. She joined him in the car and the chauffeur drove out of the mansion.
Lily glanced at Axel who wasn’t paying attention to her, she wanted to know if he was ignoring her or mad at her. He had no right to be mad at her, she is the one who is supposed to be mad at him for what he did.
The silence was killing her but she wasn’t ready to talk to him, he should feel sorry for what he did. He owes her an apology for lying to her and killing her child.
She looked away from him and stared at the ring on her finger. What a mess she had gotten herself into.
They finally arrived at Axel’s parent’s house and Lily couldn’t deny the fact that she was impressed. It wasn’t as big as Axel’s own but it was huge and beautiful.
They both walked out of the car and Axel suddenly held Lily’s hand. She looked at him surprised but he didn’t look at her. All night, he hasn’t spared her a glance.
They both walked into the house and Lily gulped as they got to the living room, everyone was there already, including her mother and step sister, Malia. Lily didn’t want to classify her as a sister at all, after all, she was a stranger to them.
Mr. McCall was also present in the room. Everyone was having a conversation before and they seemed to interrupt it.
“What took you guys so long?” Mr. Blackwell asked and Lily smiled a little and bowed.
“Good evening.” She greeted everyone generally.
Nora smiled at Lily and she smiled back.
“Axel.” Mr. McCall called and shook hands with him, Malia also smiled widely at him and he looked away from her.
“Now that we are all here, can we get the night started?” Susan, Axel’s stepmother asked and everyone stood up and took a direction.
Axel let go of Lily’s hand and she sighed before walking behind all of them.
They got into the dining room and Lily wasn’t so surprised to see it was huge, Axel and Lily sat next to each other, and his father and Susan sat next to each other. The McCall family sat together which made, Lily opposite her mother, Malia opposite Axel, and Mr. McCall opposite Nora who sat next to Max.
Lily stared at the meal on the table and was glad they weren’t looking weird, she already had some of them earlier in the day thanks to Nora.
She didn’t like some of them but she could manage to eat them for the night.
The maids dished out the meal and everyone started to eat immediately. The dinner was going on in silence until Mr. Blackwell broke it.
“So, Lily.” He called and her heart skipped a beat before looking up at him.
“Yes sir?” She answered sweetly.
“We haven’t had time for a proper introduction so I guess now is the time.” He said and Lily’s heart raced. It would have been so much better and easier if her mother who hated her so much wasn’t sitting opposite her.
“So tell me, what is your last name before bearing my son’s name?” He asked.
“Harris, my last name is Harris.”
“Harris? Is that a popular name in the city? I don’t think I have heard it before.” Susan said and Lily gulped. She almost forgot about how much Susan hated her.
“No, it is not a popular name.” Lily replied with a little smile.
“Oh, so your family has no title?” She asked further and Lily bit her lip as she thought of what to say. She couldn’t let them know she is a commoner, that would ruin a lot for Axel.
“Susan, please.” Mr. Blackwell called and she rolled her eyes. Lily was glad Mr. Blackwell cut in, she didn’t have to answer the question.
“What about your father?” Mr. Blackwell asked.
“Oh, he died. He died a few weeks ago.” Lily replied and her mother looked at her.
“Oh, I am so sorry about that.” He replied and Lily smiled.
“It’s fine.”
“And what about your mother?” He asked and Lily took a glance at her mother who shot Har a glare.
“My mother is dead too, she died a long time ago.” Lily replied.
“That must have been so hard for you. Sorry about that.” Me. McCall said and Lily faked a smile at him.
Lily wondered if he really didn’t know her or if he was just acting ignorant or mocking her. He is the reason their perfect family got ruined years ago.
If he didn’t show up, her father wouldn’t be dead, she wouldn’t be in this mess at all. She might not be rich and out on fancy dresses but at least she would have been happy.
Her father started drinking when her mother left which damaged his health a lot.
“How did you meet Axel and how did you guys get married so fast?”
“I met him on a business trip months ago,” Lily said and her mother suddenly coughed out loud which got everyone’s attention.
“Mum, are you okay?” Malia asked as she helped her with a glass of water and she nodded in response.
For some reason, Lily was relaxed, she knew she wouldn’t dare blow her cover because she didn’t want everyone to know that she was her mother.
Mr. Blackwell asked a few more questions and everyone started to chatter and laugh.
Axel was silent throughout as he paid full attention to his food and didn’t spare anyone a glance.
His phone suddenly rang and he glanced at it.
“Excuse me.” He said and stood up then walked away.
A few minutes passed and Axel didn’t return to the table, suddenly Malia spoke up.
“Excuse me, I need to use the bathroom.” She said,
“Oh, a maid will show you to the guest bathroom.” Mr. Blackwell replied.
“No, it is fine. I will find my way, sir.” She replied and walked away.
Lily might be slow but she knew what Malia was up to.
“Excuse me.” Lily also said and stood up before anyone could say anything. Since Malia hadn’t walked so far, Lily heard her footsteps in the hallway. She could hear Axel’s voice too.
Malia saw Axel leaning on a wall and she adjusted her dress by pushing her boobs out, she walked to Axel and he looked up at her.
He ended the call and gave her a questioning look.
“Hey.” She called and moved towards him seductively.
“I was wondering if we could catch up sometimes, just you and me?” She asked and Axel ran his eyes on her.
“I have a wife.” He replied simply and walked away from her. He got outside the hallway and saw Lily, he walked past her and headed to the dining room.
Lily chuckled as she saw how Malia fumed in the hallway, her chuckles became so loud that Malia noticed her presence.
“Bitch.” She cursed and Lily chuckled as she walked past her angrily.
Everyone was back in the dining room and they all finished their meal. Lily had a smile on throughout as Malia, Susan, and her mother kept glaring at her.
The dinner came to an end and Lily was glad it went well, everyone said their goodbyes and they all left the mansion.
Lily glanced at Axel on their way home and sighed. The silence was killing her already, she couldn’t keep up with it.
Whether he liked it or not, Lily was ready to have a conversation with him tonight and settle things between themselves!
