The bar was dimly lit, the soft glow of the neon signs casting a warm hue over the room. The air was thick with the smell of alcohol and cigarette smoke, mingling with the sound of laughter and chatter from the people in bar.
At the bar, a man sat alone, nursing a drink as he stared into the distance. He took a sip of his drink, the liquid burning his throat.
Myself and my friends, Tracy, Maya, Lucy, and Sophie were at a table in the corner of the bar, out of any unnecessary attention.
After I dropped Adriano at my parents, I came straight here. The girls and I are having our usual hangout, Sophie is responsible for picking the location for our hangout. And of all places to pick, she decided we should go to a bar, and that too in a place like this.
This area of the city is where you can find all kinds of criminals, smokers, drunks, street fighters, thieves and what not.
“He’s planning our next date, I have no idea where he’s taking us. I’m so excited for it.” Tracy gushed. Blushing bright red, she was telling us about a male model she met.
She once styled his outfits, and he fell in love with her works first and gradually fell in love with the creator. I mean it’s easy to fall in love with Tracy’s creation, she’s a damn goddess in her line of business.
“Oh my God, this is so romantically drool worthy.” Lucy fan girl at her story.
“Ooh, a mystery date! That sounds so romantic,” Sophie exclaimed.
I was just chuckling away at their reactions, Tracy has feed me this gist the other time I visited her office. And I had the same reaction, drooling over her romantic story. Now I get to laugh at their funny facial expressions, it’s hilarious.
“Have you guys been on many dates already?” another friend asked.
“Yeah, we’ve been on a few. He’s always surprising me with new and fun things to do. It’s like he really pays attention to details of what I like,” Tracy replied, a smile playing on her lips.
“I wish my story would be as sweet as this.” Maya sighed dreamily, seem to be in daze, her taking her to her personal fairy tale.
Among us friends, Maya is the only single lady. Sophie and I are married, Lucy is in a relationship for a while now, and now Tracy going on dates with her king of male models.
Derek Ademola.
Derek is a dark handsome man, slowly crawling his way to the top of the chain. He seems like a good man, we haven’t heard any scandal about him. I sincerely hope their relationship works.
“You will definitely get a man who deserves you.” I encourage, patting her shoulder.
“It taking too much time for him to find me.” She groaned dramatically.
“I will say you are too picky when it comes to men.” It was Sophie that spoke.
She’s too direct sometimes, Maya frowned at her.
“I don’t like his height.” Lucy said, imitating Maya’s voice.
“He doesn’t want commitment.” Sophie added.
“He’s circle of friends is terrible.” I joined in the fun.
“Come guys, stop it. It’s not my fault, they don’t have what I want.” She tried to defend herself.
“We know.” The three of us chorused, bursting into laughter.
The sound of the door slammed shut, silent our laughter. A group of men were blocking the main entrance, they smile sadistically showing their brown and missing teeth.
Scars shattered around their faces, earrings at the beginning of their ears to the end. Scary looking Tattoos were all over them and each other of them were either with guns, knives, daggers, and axes.
The man I assume to be the boss, went over the table close to the entrance and sat down as if he owns the place.
“Quiet down everyone.” His words immediately silencing the place. The other customers were visibly shaking in fear, this place is notorious for harboring thugs, now I’ve confirmed it.
My friends were also scared, they have moved closer to each other, seeking comfort from each other. I on the other hand, I won’t say I’m scared. I’m more worried, I fear for the innocent people here hoping no one gets hurt.
“I didn’t come here for you guys, so just carry on.” He
Carry on? With your men imposing figures? I scoffed, he’s clearly having fun.
The manager of the bar came over, he was sweating profusely. I think they came here for him.
“I’m here for my money.” He pulled out a cigarette and place between his lips, he brought out a lighter and lit the cigarette.
I quiet sat there watching their exchange, as much as I’m worried about the manager, I’m still enjoying the show.
“I have brought this month’s money over to your…” The slam on the table cut him off.
“You what?” One of the men hissed, holding the manager up his shirt.
“I will bring it over.” He said instead.
They’re extorting him, yet there’s not he could do about it than to comply.
“You.” He pointed in my direction. “What are you staring? Is this a show to you?” He signal his men to bring me over.
The door open again, pushing the men resting on it. This time it was Marco that walk through the door, his face squeeze in annoyance.
“Don.” They greets him, obviously recognising him. He ignored, matching in my direction. He grip my arm and pulled me up against himself.
“Scram.” He glare at the men, they understood and ran out in a split second.
“What the fuck are you doing here.” He dragged me along to the car. “You like piss me off, don’t you.” He hissed as we settled in the car.
I waved goodbye to my friends, who were now standing outside the bar.
