POV: Miguel
My table tipped offer and a waiting approaching my table stumbled on the chaos and fell with the foods she was carrying on a tray. Another waiter fell next to him and before you knew it, it was a pile-up, a disaster indeed.
“I’m so sorry, I’ll pay for damages, whatever it will cost me I’ll pay, I promise. But that’s my sister, Marisol, I need to get to her before she leaves with Raphael.” I told the manager in a hurry as I searched my pocket, trying to get my wallet and pay for the accident I just caused.
“Asshole!
That’s not Marisol!
That’s Raphael Hawkins beautiful Fiancee, Victoria Kendall!
Look what you caused because of your hallucinations, you need to see a doctor quickly!” An angry customer who had been involved in the accident yelled furiously at me. One of the waiters must have spilled soup on him because he is covered in it. I couldn’t respond to his accusation because I caused this accident and everyone is already so pissed off at me. Besides, he just called my sister beautiful and I’m so excited to hear that from a complete stranger.
“Well, she’s my sister and that’s it!
I need to get to her, you have no idea how long I’ve been praying to find her, I’ve been waiting all my life for this day! I let out excitedly as I gathered my phones and car keys that fell down when the table fell over earlier.
“Yeah, weirdo!
If Victoria Kendall, soon to be Victoria Hawkins is your sister, then I’m the fucking son of the president!” the manager mocked, making the others laugh at me for saying she is my sister. I guess they see her every other day so it’s nothing to them. But it’s not the same for me, I’m so anxious and nervous at the same time. I feel that same anxiousness I’d felt when my plane touched down.
My nervousness made me so clumsy and disheveled, that I kept trying to ignore the offensive comments. But the more I explained myself to them, the more they laughed at me and kept making fun of me. I couldn’t shut my ears from their rantings and the more they screamed at me, the more confused I became.
They are delaying me here with their demands and I have to leave now if I intend to get to Marisol before she leaves. The security guards have already sealed off the exits, locking me in and preventing me from going out of the restaurant without paying for everything that I accidentally destroyed.
“You are paying for my laundry mister!” someone yelled from behind and the others concurred immediately, yelling at me at the same time, telling me I would not only pay for their laundry but also replace their food that spilled during the ruckus.
“Look here, young man. I don’t care what your problem is, but you have to pay up before you step out of here!” the manager told me firmly, his eyes glaring daggers at me.
“Give me a break, guys!
I can buy this fucking restaurant if I want to. Of course, I’m going to pay for your fucking laundry and anything else you want. I just can’t find my wallet, I can’t find my card. I thought I had it but it’s in my car. If you could just let me go out there and get my card, I’ll be right back to clear up this mess and get it sorted out.” I pleaded with the manager. But he wouldn’t listen to me. I couldn’t find my wallet, I’d left it in the car and now I could lose Marisol again if I don’t get out of here soon.
“Fine, here’s my car key, you can keep it if you want to. Just let me go, please. I have to get to her before she leaves here. Her address is not in public records, I couldn’t find her address. Just take my car and let me go.” I told the manager, but he still wouldn’t budge.
“If you think I would take your stolen car without verification, then you need to think again. This is not a joke, you did some serious damage to our properties, and some of our waiters would need medical care because of the fall. You need to realize that this matter is serious, mister…”
“Miguel…” I completed his statement with my name, my eyes glaring daggers at him as I was already getting pissed off at his reaction to this issue… He squinted his eyes and looked at me suspiciously,
“The name is Miguel Myers, and you are seriously getting on my last nerve, mister manager. I ain’t know what you want from me, but one of two things is going to happen right now. One, you can let me go out there and settle my issues with my sister. Two, you can come with me to my car and I’ll fucking transfer the money to you.
I’m getting out of this restaurant and I’m going to walk out through that door as if I own it. Try and stop me if you can!” I told him sternly, pushing him out of my way and pushing through the crowd that had gathered around me to see me fat for coffees I did not drink.
A security guard tried to stop me, but I pushed him off roughly, I held him in a chokehold and tried to cut off his air supply. He struggled to breathe, and he tried to push me off. But he couldn’t because I was holding him so tight and I was using him as an example to the others, using him to keep them at bay.
Yeah, it fucking worked!
The manager and the others saw my fighting skills when I tackled him. No one wished to be in his shoes, so they kept their distance and watched me leave. I beckoned on the manager to follow me to my car and he had no choice but to comply this time. He looked scared of me, I guess he thinks I’m a fucking lunatic.
“Look man, I need your help to get to Marisol. I know this may sound crazy, but I meant every word I said in there. I know I messed up in there, but trust me, I’ll make it right. I’ll pay for everything, I promise. Just get my car and bring it over here, I need to get past the crowd and get to the front line.
Maybe one of the guards may be willing to listen to me and get me closer to her.” I let out sadly as I gave him my car key and I told him to turn the car around and bring it this way. He looked confused, but he accepted the key anyway and he ran towards the parking lot of the restaurant while I went across the road to the place where the crowd had gathered to admire the couple and take pictures.
I pushed and pushed through the crowd, earning a few curse words and some violent reactions. But I did not stop, I kept pushing through. As soon as I stepped out in the second row of the crowd, I spotted them coming out from the Chinese restaurant they had entered a few minutes ago.
Seeing her so close and standing this close to her made me have an anxiety attack again. I found myself smiling like an idiot with my eyes just fixed firmly on her. I couldn’t look away and I couldn’t call out to her like I’d intended. I just froze and stood there looking at her with a smile plastered on my face. She turned to me and offered a small smile, trying not to be rude I guess.
“Marisol,” I called out to her, but I was neither audible nor clear with my words. It’s obvious that she didn’t hear me because she didn’t respond. She just got into the car and her boyfriend shut the door after her.
“No… No… No… No…
She can’t leave, stop her!
I need to see her, let me through!” I yelled at the guy in front of me trying to push through.
“Fuck off, asshole!
She’s Victoria Kendall and I love her, so back off weirdo!” he yelled at me furiously. I would have smiled at his words because it’s obvious that she has a great personality and that is why everyone likes her. But that’s not why I’m here, need to get to her. Before she gets away from me again.
“Mister Hawkins!
Mister Hawkins!
Raphael, it’s me, Miguel, look here please!
A word please, I need to speak with you, it’s urgent!” I called out to him. But he didn’t even turn to me, he just got into his car and zoomed off.
