Mavericks POV
Valerie is such an idiot…
I can’t believe she called me an idiot when in fact, she is the bigger fool here. For fucks sake we’ve spoken about it severally, I told her to stay away from those bastards because they are dangerous. Yet the first time they tried to pull another trick on her, she totally fell for it. Valerie was going to try to save that idiot, she believed his stupid lies and if Shane had not shown up, she would have followed him downstairs to try and save his sorry ass from the witch he spoke about.
I watched everything from my office, I mean every damn thing. First, I saw Beverly and Cameron acting like a bunch of idiots in front of my staffers. I would have gone down there to kick them out of my company. Everyone would understand why I had to kick them out, they will understand that this is an office and they are disturbing our work, so it’s only natural that I ask them to leave. But I had to be smarter than my enemies whenever I’m making any decision. I can’t let them know that I’m monitoring everything going on here. It will be more suspicious if they find out that I monitor the security cameras by myself, I mean, how many CEOs will have the time to sit down and watch the security footage. It’s quite unusual and even suspicious.
If I jump down to throw them out, everyone would know that I keep tabs on everything by myself, and it’s going to make them more careful and alert. I’m sure Charlotte and Liam would not try to sneak a witch into my parking garage if they keep I was watching, and Cameron and Beverly would not be fighting in the open like two lunatics. Watching the cameras by myself is the only way I can make sure that nothing escapes my eyes. Besides, Valerie seems to be enjoying this whole drama. The fact that Valerie was loving their endless banter is enough to keep me in my office so we can both enjoy the show.
I was in my office when Beverly walked in, looking so proud and excited. She had said something to Cameron that made her go livid with fear. Too bad she wasn’t speaking out loud when she said it, I couldn’t hear what she was saying, but I’m sure it is something serious because Cameron was so shocked when she said it and I could tell that Val looked surprised as well. I wonder what the big secret could be, although it’s not my business anyway. I’m more concerned with the shape pain that I’m feeling in my head.
It started as a little ache at the side of my head, and it kept increasing by the minute. I tried to focus on the drama play in my reception hall, but as I try to ignore it, it kept increasing by the minute, making me feel weak and grumpy. I tried to speak with Hunter, but it seems he is also affected by the same thing affecting me. I struggled with my feelings, trying so hard not to fall asleep. My eyes are so heavy, I couldn’t keep them open much longer. I reached within me, using all the strength I could gather, I summoned my wolf and I let out a mighty howl that could be heard by any supernatural creature in the building.
I was so lucky that Beverly and her guards are too busy engaging Cameron. I wonder what I would have done if they heard me howling like a dying wolf in my office. Even the spies placed on me were either too distracted or too busy to hear my howl for help. But Malia was there for me, she would never ignore me when I need help. Hunter may be too weak to respond to my call, but Malia wasn’t. I heard her voice in my head, and I felt her power all around me as she whispers to Hunter. She nuzzled him tenderly, and she spoke in a strange language that neither Hunter nor I could understand.
I guess she was chanting in the healer’s tongue or maybe she was using our ancient tongue, I really can’t say. But whatever she is doing, I don’t want it to stop because she is touching my wolf in all the right places and I know he is excited to have her close and their excitement is affecting me also. It’s taking away the burden and weakness from me, it’s just as if a heavy weight was taken away from my shoulder. I felt so relieved that I opened my eyes almost immediately. Beverly was no longer with Cameron, she was on her way up here already. I don’t know what happened after she threatened Cameron, in a split second I was overshadowed by a fog of darkness. It felt like I was going to slip at any second, even my wolf could not save me from this mysterious power that threatens to destroy me.
“The white which is around, Mav. And from the look of things, I don’t think she is on our side. She is here to hurt Val, and she won’t stop until she drains her powers.” Malia told me when I finally regained my senses.
“Why did she suddenly turn against us, I thought she was placed here to help you win this war. What does she want with your powers?” I asked.
“She has a personal vendetta against King Gerald, it’s a deep hatred that has caused her so much pain. The lycan king killed her family and chased them out of their home in the forest. He wanted to stop them from helping Valerie and I, but he couldn’t sway them to his side so he frustrated them and sent them out of their homes. The ones that tried to fight back were murdered in the forest and their carcasses were thrown in the river. King Gerald personally carried out this mission, and she watched him kill her entire family. Now she wishes to avenge her family and the only way to fight King Gerald and defeat him is to get more powerful. She needs more power, and there is no power that is greater than mine, that is why she turned against us.
I could try and convince her to forget her plans for revenge and fulfill her destiny and help me awaken the sleeping wolves. But that is very unlikely because she has swayed from their ways a long time ago. She is no longer a white witch, she can not be trusted anymore. I could try and reach out to her, but she would only create a link with me that I cannot break easily. She would try to get into my head, and she would manipulate Valerie to do her bidding. Oh no, I need to warn Valerie, she would be in danger.”
“Wait, what do I need to do, how do I stop her?” I asked her, but she couldn’t respond to me. She just went off immediately and then I looked back at the camera and saw Valerie being abused and threatened by Cameron. She was being accused of something she knows nothing about, and I could tell that she is not aware of the danger facing the both of us presently. She has no idea that her wolf has been with me for a few minutes and she didn’t know that I was almost killed a few minutes ago. I’m not even sure that she is aware of the danger coming her way. Malia has left me already, and I’m sure she will be trying to get her to listen to her, but Val is too busy trying to get away from Cameron, which is why she is not paying attention to her wolf.
“Hello Baby,” Beverly called out to me from my doorstep. I knew she was already on her way up here, and I was expecting her to arrive a few minutes ago. But I think the elevator had to stop a couple of times before it got to my floor, so she was delayed for a little while. I’m glad she wasn’t here when I was fighting the urge to fall asleep, she would have heard me howl in frustration and that would have been the end of me.
“Turn around and get the fuck out of my office, Val. I have no time to waste on you.” I let out sternly. She took off the button to her trench coat, exposing her two-piece sexy, red lingerie with a garter belt. She sauntered towards me, keeping her eyes fixed on me.
“What’s the big idea, Beverly?
Do you think you can seduce me into screwing you ever again, Do you think getting naked in front of me would bring me back to you?
I’m so sorry love, but I can assure you that you are simply wasting your time because I would never have anything to do with you ever again. You were just a fling, sweetheart, and I’m so glad it’s over between us. It was so hard to put in with your stupid, selfish desires. Trust me, I was so glad when it ended, and I never wish to have any relationship with you ever again.
Now fuck off, before I throw you out the window myself!” I warned her fiercely, and she gasped in shock as she looked at me in surprise. It’s obvious that she wasn’t expecting this from me, I guess I’ve been acting too nice and now she thinks I don’t have what it takes to hurt her or kick her out. If only she knows how much I detest her. I didn’t even let her take another step closer to me, I plastered a stern warning look on my face. And when I glared at her with a stern face, she had no choice but to stand in front of my table instead of coming around to disgust me with her seditious moves. While I keep her at arm’s length, I still watched the camera, but I did not let her see what I was watching so she doesn’t know that I was seeing everything she has been doing all this while.
“I can ease your worries and make you feel good Maverick. You recall how I loved you and how you used to feel good around me. Please come with me, my love, I can ease your pain and make you rich and famous. My father would bless our union this time, we would rule together and take charge of everything that concerns us. It’s time to go, my love, it’s time to leave here and come home with me.
Let’s go far away together, let us forget about our differences and accept our fate. We can live together happily. My father would forgive you and take you in as a son. We would be perfect together, Maverick. Just say you’ll be mine and let us leave here and he back home together.” She voiced out in a convincing tone, trying to get me to change my mind. As she spoke, the inky question on my mind is,
“How the hell do I get her to leave my office?”
