Mavericks POV
“I knew I should never have involved you, how the hell did that bastard catch up with you, how could you mess this up?” Harold yelled in anger, pushing Shane on the chest furiously.
“Why would you think that it’s my fault that he found out?
I didn’t do anything, we just got there and boom, there he was, walking out of the shadows and asking many questions that didn’t sit right with me. He asked us why we were there and he wanted to know if we were working with his enemies to being him down. He thought we were part of the group that was in the parking lot creating a scene earlier.
What I’m trying to say is that he knew we were there for something and he suspected us the moment he saw us there. You can confirm from your precious daughter if you want to, but the truth is that we didn’t have to say a word because he knew why we were there in the first place. He knows everything dad, and he wasn’t going to let us search his parking lot because he thinks we are his enemies!” Shane responded in the same furious tone his father had used on him. But he wasn’t hitting or pushing his dad back. He just took a few steps back to avoid being hit by his dad as he yelled back at him. Cameron stood by the side, saying nothing and just watching everything play out. If I didn’t know better, I would say that Harold Armstrong hates his son, Shane. He makes it seem like he prefers his daughter to his son. But that is absurd, I mean, is there a parent who actually chooses between two kids?
I really don’t think so…
That will be totally insane. I think he is just pissed off at him and that is why he is acting like a complete asshole and calling his son many names, abusing him in front of his precious daughter as Shane called her. I think it’s fate that led me to this spot, I would never have known that there is something sinister going on in the basement, I mean the basement in our pack house, my house. As I said earlier since our bond as mates does not exist because of the curse, we tend to do more romantic getaways to reignite our love for our partners, and that is exactly what dad is doing right now, they weren’t around and there is no one in the pack house, except for the guards and housekeepers.
And that is why I got more curious when Shane and Cameron parked a few feet from the pack house, hiding their car a safe distance from the guard’s position. I knew they were up to no good, so I hid my own car farther away from theirs and I sneaked into the pack house as well. But I couldn’t find them anywhere in the building and I got more curious because I’m pretty certain that they had come this way. A few guards and omegas wanted to know what I was searching for, but I couldn’t say a word to them because I don’t even trust them right now. I dismissed everyone and sent them back to their jobs while I continue my search for those two idiots.
I heard a strange sound in the basement and I went to check it out because I know that this basement has been abandoned for centuries now and no one actually goes there anymore. So hearing a strange sound coming from there seems weird and I knew I had to check it out immediately and when I heard the conversation between Harold and his children, and I realized immediately that Harold Armstrong is so fucking insane. He was so furious to see them in the basement, I guess he doesn’t want anyone to find out what he has been doing in the basement of the pack house. This basement is not even listed in the blueprint for this building because it is not the main basement, rather, it is a basement under the real basement and it has its purpose. It is built as a tomb for the kings of the past, my ancestors.
He’s not supposed to be there, in fact, no one is allowed down there. I should have sealed it off a long time ago, I could have made it impossible for anyone to have access to the remains of my ancestors. There may be something in there that Harold finds important to his evil mission. Otherwise, what would a respectable member of the pack be doing in the tombs, and why is he so furious that his kids met him here?
He first scolded them for coming in here to search for him, claiming that the guards could have trailed them in here. He actually came up the stairs to peek at the entrance to see if anyone had followed them up here. I was hiding a few feet away, I chose a spot where I would not be spotted easily and I hid there to avoid being detected by Harold Armstrong and his kids. I was far from the entrance, but all thanks to my wolf, Hunter, I heard them anyways. And I heard him yelling and screaming at Shane, blaming him for my intrusion, and accusing him of ruining his plans on purpose.
“You could have walked away instead of standing in the damn parking lot, arguing with him, and giving him more information about us, what were you thinking?
I told you I needed to be smart about this mission because it involves the lycan king and the damn king of all wolves. Right now, I believe the last healer is involved as well, and only if I’m smart will I be able to get rid of Maverick and become the king of all wolves. He may be betrothed to your sister, but he is still the enemy, and you should not have said anything to him. You should have walked away and let me come up with a better way to find the last healer. You should not have indulged him and conversed with him. You should have fucking walked away!” he yelled in a loud voice, breathing heavily when he was done.
“What are you blaming me for, I didn’t do anything, did I?
I told you he was right there, waiting to see who would come around that area. You need to accept that it was a trap and we all fell for it. Now let’s move on and find a solution to this mess. If Maverick keeps suspecting us, it’s going to affect his relationship with Cameron and your plan B will be ruined before you even think of implementing it. You need to recheck the messages from your grandfather and find out how they manage to screw up their plans in the past because from where I’m standing, I think you are following in their direction and you’ll end up bringing another great curse upon us again.” Shane retorted angrily, making my mouth go wide in shock.
This is why I said If I’m not mistaken, I think he is worse than king Gerald himself. And as I kept listening to them, I discovered that they are indeed worse than king Gerald because king Gerald doesn’t want me dead, at least not that I know of. He only wanted me to submit to him and to keep paying taxes to him and making him richer. But Harold wants to be the King of all Wolves, and his family has been working against us for centuries, and we had no fucking idea. I still can’t believe that I’m betrothed to his daughter, how the hell did I miss this, No, how did we miss this?
We had no fucking idea, not even my dad who is supposed to be best friends with Harold Armstrong. I can’t begin to imagine how he must have tried to poison my dad or get him assassinated when he was still the pack’s Beta. It’s a miracle that my father is still alive today. I don’t know how to get rid of Cameron now, but I know that I need to be more careful with her because she is more dangerous and poisonous than her father. She hasn’t said a word all this while, and I know she has evil thoughts against me, she just doesn’t want to voice them out.
I can’t say a word to my dad, but I’m certainly going to seal off this basement and I’ll install a security passcode that would not be released to anyone, except me. Then again, I heard Shane telling his dad that he would bring another curse upon is, just like his ancestors did. That statement has refused to leave my mind, and I wondered if they had something to do with the healers that delved into magic practices that made the moon goddess place a curse upon us. The story is just not adding up, there is so much I need to know about these people and I know I have to be careful so I don’t get killed before I uncover the truth.
I guess I’ll have to come up with a plan on how to get this information from Cameron and Shane without causing more trouble. I need to know when they started plotting against us, and who their allies are. Did they really bring this curse upon us, did my great-grandfather make a mistake when her executed the Healers?
