Still Mavericks POV
“Are you sure about that, Marv?
Do you really want to meet up with my father right now?” she asked in a sarcastic tone that made it seem as if she was mocking me or something. I wanted to get angry and yell at her, but why am I yelling at her when she hasn’t said anything that requires scolding. She looks like she is having so much fun right now as she sees me this furious, I’m not sure she cares about our engagement at all. She has never looked this excited before, not even during our engagement. I guess she enjoys being the villain in the story, she was so excited that I thought about letting her go just to kill her excitement. But I can’t let her go, not when I know there is a secret hidden beneath those smiles.
“Where… Is… Harold Armstrong?” I asked once more, separating the words to emphasize my seriousness. I think I prefer it when she was acting dumb and trying to pretend to be sad. This new, bold oil on her face is giving me goosebumps all over my body. It’s making her look sinister and dangerous. I know I shouldn’t be scared of her, after all, she is just a little girl whose only desire is power and wealth. I need to forget about her stupidity and focus on finding out why they are really here.
“You don’t want to do that man, trust me, you don’t want to have anything to do with my father right now. He is more grumpy than Cameron and he may give you more trouble than her. Don’t forget he hates you for treating my sister so badly, do you really want to get him even more furious by accessing her of things that don’t even make sense?” Shane asked in a sarcastic tone, trying to make me feel guilty and make me change my mind. Well, he succeeded in only making me more suspicious of him and his sister.
Like, what the hell are they hiding?
I don’t need a soothsayer or a magician to tell me that these guys know exactly what I’m talking about, but they are pretending to be ignorant, whilst trying to scare me by threatening me with things that don’t even matter to me. I smiled in satisfaction, trying to make him believe that I’m giving up on the idea of visiting their father. The truth is that I can’t even let this go, even if I wanted to. The guilt is written all over their faces, and whatever it is tar they are doing, I can see that they are trying so hard not to get their father involved. It’s either they are scared of his reaction because they believe he will not approve of what they are doing. Or maybe they just do not want to split the money they collected from King Gerald with him.
In any case, the fact remains that they do not want him to find out about it for a reason. And since they are so scared of him, it means he is the only one that can make them stop whatever it is that they are doing with King Gerald. I am not be able to get them to change their minds, but I’m sure he will. So I won’t let them talk me out of this, I’ll get him to stop them from destroying us all. He may not be able to change what they may or may not have done in the past, but I bet he could reach their hearts and get them to stop whatever it is that they plan to do next.
They are using threats and tricks to try and make me forget that I just caught them shopping around my building. They are searching for something here, they were sent here by the trio who tried to kill Valerie and me. I’m guessing that they forgot something back here and they needed someone to help them get it and also clear the scene in case they left any evidence behind. They know that I just caught them in the act, so the only thing they could do is to try and distract me with their cheap tricks and threats. But I know they are just doing this to stop me from asking more questions and prying more into their affairs. Since they don’t want to be interrogated, I decided to play nice and make them believe that I’m really giving up.
“Since that’s how you want to play it, why don’t I walk you to your car so you don’t mess with the crime scene until the cops get here, or, do you think they will find something here that would get you in trouble and expose your dealings with King Gerald?” I asked sarcastically, trying to annoy them. But they don’t seem furious at all, if anything, they looked surprised that I’m mentioning king Gerald’s name this way. And for the first time, since I caught them, Cameron looks bold and curious as she steps out from behind her brother and gazed at me with shock registered on her face. Her brother’s mouth hung open as well, and I just realized that I just gave them a piece of information that they were not privy to. Or, are they still faking it?
“King Gerald?
Are you investigating the king, is that why you think we have something to do with him?” Cameron asked in dismay, trying hard to even get out these few words.
“Do you think king Ashford is involved in the incident that happened here last night?
Wait, hold it right there, Alpha Maverick, are you one of the rogues fighting the lycan king, are you being subordinate to our king?” Shane added fiercely, sounding so stern as if he is the king’s guard or something. If I didn’t know better, I would say that he is faithful to the king, but how can he be faithful to the king when he doesn’t even feel the aura of the king?
It was barely a few minutes ago that I tried to get him to submit to me, but he didn’t bare his neck before me. Now he wants me to believe that he is faithful to the lycan king?
Oh please…
They are obviously faking it!
“You must have gotten me wrong, I only asked if you were having any shady deals that could get you in trouble with the lycan king, and not the other way around. I guess you are too distracted to hear me properly, and I wonder why you would ever think that I would be investigating our king or that I am a rogue.
If anything, I should be having these suspicions about you two. After all, I am not the one snooping around a crime scene, trying to get rid of evidence that is incriminating. Now that I think about it, I think I should get king Gerald involved, who knows, maybe you will be more willing to speak with him.” I threatened mockingly, and I smirk evilly when I saw the fear in their eyes when they heard me.
“Fine, we get your point, and we are leaving already. There Is no need to get all dramatic.” Shane responded firmly, giving me a look that tells me that he won’t let this go easily. I ignored him as they both turned and left in a hurry. I still stood right there until they got into the car and sped away, leaving behind a wake of dust. It’s a good thing that they are driving one of my cars right now, it would be so easy to track them down and find out what they have been u to lately. I watched them zoom off before going to the crime scene to check out what was left behind. Unfortunately, there was nothing left behind for me to examine. I’m guessing Charlotte and her group have people that clean up after them.
I don’t know who they are working for, but I like their strict policy and I admire their careful planning and swift development of their plot. They know how to plot their mission, and they are quite creative and smart, I give them that. I just hope we don’t cross paths again because I’m not going to be so nice again. I pulled out my phone and tracked Cameron’s car with my google map. I guess she doesn’t know that I have a way to keep track of her movements. I’ve never had any need to use the car’s GPS until now, and as I filled them from afar, I got a bit confused because I have no idea where they were headed.
At first, they stopped by their house, then they went to the woods, heading deeper into the forest. I thought that they were going to visit the wizard that king Gerald placed in the woods, and I wanted to conclude that they were faking it all along. I thought they were actually working with King Gerald and the wizard. But before I could linger on that thought, they drove back to town and this time, they went back to the pack house, my house. They have no business coming back here, except they came here to speak with me or my father. But I just spoke with them a few minutes ago, and my father went on a boat trip with mom. Since our bond as mates does not exist because of the curse, we tend to do more romantic getaways to reignite our love for our partners, and that is exactly what dad is doing right now.
I got more curious when they parked a few feet from the pack house, hiding their car a safe distance from the guard’s position. I knew they were up to no good, so I hid my own car farther away from theirs and I sneaked into the pack house as well. But I couldn’t find them anywhere in the building and I got more curious because I’m pretty certain that they had come this way. A few guards and omegas wanted to know what I was searching for, but I couldn’t say a word to them because I don’t even trust them right now. I dismissed everyone and sent them back to their jobs while I continue my search for those two idiots.
I heard a strange sound in the basement and I went to check it out because I know that this basement has been abandoned for centuries now and no one actually goes there anymore. So hearing a strange sound coming from there seems weird and I knew I had to check it out immediately and when I heard the conversation between Harold and his children, I realized immediately that Harold Armstrong is so fucking insane. If I’m not mistaken, I think he is worse than king Gerald himself. I can’t believe that I’m betrothed to his daughter, how the hell did I miss this?
