How It All Began

Harold Armstrong POV
It was a cold night. The half-moon sat high up in the sky, shining brightly on us, and amplifying our supernatural abilities. Everyone was busy, so busy. It is said that the Alpha has finally decided to take a step toward his life long commitment to Cameron. Everyone knows how they got to be together in the first place, they know that Alpha Maverick would rather drown to death than get hitched to her.
The hall was packed full of spectators who came from far and near. Some were there to witness the event and offer their support and blessings, while the others were simply waiting for the Alpha to call it all off and give them a good reason to laugh to their satisfaction.
While the preparation was going on, something else was going down in the secret basement that leads to the golden throne of the true Alpha king. There was a secret meeting between the king and his evil accomplice, Harold Armstrong.
“Do not dare me, Harold!
I don’t take well to threats, you have no fucking right to summon a here for such a trivial event. My presence in this kingdom is an insult to me and my people. I could easily wipe out you and your entire generation off the surface of the earth.” King Gerald threatened furiously, his eyes blazing in anger.
“You won’t dare!
Without me, you lose control over the werewolves and they will come together against you. I helped you, and now it’s time to return the favor. You promised to help me overthrow the Huntingtons, you promised to make me the Alpha of this pack and you failed, Gerald. You failed to keep to your word, and that is why we are here right now.
Just take a good look at me, King Gerald. I’m too old to become Alpha, and you know we don’t have our wolves, so there is no way for us to look any younger than we truly are. Look at you, Gerald. You don’t look any older than thirty. You can afford to wait around for next year, or better yet, you can wait for the next generation, but I can’t wait around any longer. I want what rightfully belongs to me, and I want it now.” I let out fiercely, staring the king dead in the eyes. I’m not scared of him, I never was and I never will be. As a matter of fact, you can call us partners because, without me, he would simply be a Lycan king with no significance.
“Do not speak to me in that time, you traitor. You are nothing before me and I will annihilate you when my plans finally take shape again. The Alpha you seek to overthrow is the reason why I’m in control of all your pathetic species today. I won’t help you destroy him until I get what I’m searching for. And the next time you summon me to this pack for something as stupid as an engagement party, I would have your head!” king Gerald threatened fiercely, still trying to subdue the proud Beta, Harold. But I stood my ground and refused to back down.
“Your hypnotism does not work on me. I helped you find the wizards, remember?
I even helped you with the secret ingredient that gave you power over all werewolves. All I ask is for you to force him to do so the right thing, just like you promised me. You refused to take down the former Alpha when it was my turn, then when it got to my son’s turn, you disqualified my son from becoming the Beta, and now that it’s time to rectify that mistake by making my daughter the luna, you still want to turn down my request?
Not anymore?
Not on my watch!” I yelled in his face. He turned red with fury, and if not for the measures that I put in place, he would have killed me right here in this damn room. He knows what is at stake, he won’t have the power to control all werewolves without me. He needs me to get him the secret ingredient that the wizards used to create the potion that turns the entire werewolf into his personal puppets.
I’ve been pushed aside for far too long, I’ve helped him achieve his desires and all he has done is to step on me and walk all over me. He has trampled on my pride on several occasions, always treating me like a lesser creature when he knows very well that he is nothing without me. All these years I kept hoping that he would recognize my importance and accord me due respect. I thought he would reward me for my diligence and commitment, but he never did. He only takes and takes as he pleases, he never gives, not even once. I have endured his attitude for far too long, but not anymore. I made him stronger, and I can destroy everything he has worked hard to achieve.
It all started thirty-eight years, I was still the beta of the Blue Moon Pack. Marvin Huntington was the Alpha and Lindsey was his Luna. Alpha Marvin was not just my Alpha, he was my best friend as well, and together, we kept our pack safe, despite the fact that we do not have our wolves. As the moon goddess planned it, his wife Lindsey was pregnant with their first child and heir to the Alpha, Maverick, and at the same time, my wife was pregnant as well. We were both excited to welcome our heirs that would carry on our legacy. Everything seems perfect, and I thought I had everything I could ever want. Then one day, the Luna went into labor and everything changed for me.
The night before Luna Lindsey went into labor, I had a dream, a very frightening dream. Actually, I’ve been having this very dream since she conceived the Alphas heir, but this time, it felt so real that I woke up with beads of sweat and the stench of smoke. It didn’t feel like a mere dream, I could feel everything as if I was present when it all happened.
In my dreams, I was taken back centuries ago, to where it all began. We were the strongest among all supernatural creatures, and among the werewolves, our pack was the mightiest. We still had our beast last that time, and we had a king. His name is Hunter Huntington, he was the king of all wolves and the greatest of us all. In my dream, I shared a special bond with him, it is the same bond that I share with Marvin Huntington, my Alpha. But there was hatred in my heart, I hated the king because he had a weakness, and that weakness could destroy us someday, and I couldn’t allow that to happen.
The Alpha king was too kind and approachable. The Blue Moon Pack was the strongest pack in this part of the world, but the king never uses his powers to oppress the other packs. He would rather call for a truce than attack his offenders, he will rather seek for peace than go to war with other weaker packs. The people love him, and other Alphas feared and respected him for being a good king. They never cross his path, and the land was peaceful, just like the Alpha king desired it to be.
He felt so fulfilled for uniting all the packs, and he did everything he could to maintain the peace between us. That is all he did, that is all he could ever think of, PEACE. He never stopped to think of what his weakness could mean for our people, he was making us easy preys to every other pack and he doesn’t even realize it. We were portrayed as weak in the eyes of the other Alphas, including the lycans and rogues. It was only a matter of time before we are attacked by one of these packs.
We are the strongest today, we could use our strength and authority to prey on other packs and make them submit to us. We could force them into submission, we could make them pay taxes and seize their lands and properties if they ever break any of our rules. I saw an endless possibility, many opportunities to make more money that would make us stand out as the richest, and strongest among all the other packs. I tried to point out some of these things to the Alpha King, I tried to make him see the other packs as traitors, but the weak king did not pay attention to my words. He warned me never to mention it anymore.
He would rather continue to indulge these traitors blindly than to heed my words. He is a weakling and a fucking coward. I hated him for shutting me out, and I hated the moon goddess for blessing him with so much strength. He doesn’t deserve it, he is not fit to be king, and he is not fit to lead us all. I knew he had to go, and I tried so hard to get rid of him. On several occasions, I tried to have him poisoned, but he somehow manages to sniff out the poison no matter how careful I was.
I set an ambush for him and his warriors whenever he is going for an assignment outside the pack, but he is too strong to be defeated. Like I said earlier, he is the strongest Alpha that ever lived, even Lycans would not survive a duel with him. He survives every ambush I set up for him, and even when I try to pin it on the other pack, he still wouldn’t attack them without proof. He only issued out stern warnings to all the other packs, warning them to refrain from attacking his people.
I could feel the hate in my heart as I watched him make these decisions. I was not there when it happened, but as I witness it in my dreams, I felt the hate building up until I felt the same hatred that my forefathers felt for the Huntingtons. It was so bad, his weakness was on a whole new level. He had this popular saying that as long as he is still alive, peace would never leave these lands.
Like, how stupid is that?
I saw him visiting neighboring packs, trying to assure them that everything was okay. He blames the rogues for all the attacks, while he keeps on loving the others. From what I witnessed in my dream, the Alpha king could be hurting from these attacks, and he still wouldn’t do anything about it. He even suggested that we make peace with the rogues as well, can you believe that?
He wanted to welcome back the rogues and treat them fairly as well. That was the last straw, my great-grandfather just couldn’t take it anymore. Since all his other attacks have failed, he decided to use the one attack that the king would never see coming, he decided to use magic to destroy the king, and the king would never anticipate this attack, it seems like the perfect plan. He went to the healers, he sought out the most gullible ones among the healers, and that is when the real story began…
