Still Mavericks POV
I almost laughed out loud when I looked at Dominic’s innocent face. He has no idea that he has been used. When I first told him that I wanted this place to be used for the new hospital, I knew it was going to be the perfect spot because I have already analyzed it carefully before making my decision. But I know the people would still want to hear a few words from him because he is the doctor after all, so he is expected to know more about the hospital than I do. I had him make a short video to assure everyone that we got the perfect spot for the new hospital.
To be honest, I never thought I would be using this video to destroy his relationship with my mate. I had no idea that he even had a relationship with her, I never even thought that they would come together to my party and flirt shamelessly in front of me. He has no idea that I chose that building to hurt her, he doesn’t even know that she lives there. I’m sure he would have said something if he did, he certainly won’t be here, smiling and flirting with her if he knew that she is homeless because of us. I don’t know how he would react when he finds out that he had hurt her, but one thing I know is that she won’t forgive him for hurting her this way, and that is exactly what I wanted. This friendship or relationship between them must come to an end tonight, I mean it!
I beckoned on Roy, and I told him to get the podium ready for my speech and the job allocation in our company. Offering members of my pack jobs should not be a big deal, but these days it is a fucking big deal to get such a job. With the rate at which we are being taxed by the Lycan king, getting a job that pays as well as our companies is practically impossible. Besides, King Gerald doesn’t care if a family can afford the taxes or not, he subjects any family that couldn’t pay up to a life of slavery in his vineyards. It is way better to find a job and pay up before the lycan warriors arrive, or one member of the family gets dragged to king Gerald’s vineyard to work as a slave to cover up for the paid taxes. Only when that money is paid will they be released and sent back home. In most cases, that never happens, the slave never returns because the family may never be able to pay for their astounding debts.
As the Alpha, I made it my personal mission to ensure that my pack never loses anyone to slavery, and that is why I always expand our businesses and award jobs to anyone willing to work. Actually, I ensure that every family works hard to get their taxes paid on time. That is why I award jobs to them, and so far, we have never lost anyone from our pack to slavery. Tonight is not going to be different, although I know went too far this time, I’m actually hurting someone I care about on purpose. But it’s all for the greater good, right?
“Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to call on the man of the hour, The Alpha of Alphas, the CEO of Huntington cooperation, Alpha Maverick Huntington!” A round of applause erupted in the entire building when Leroy called me to the podium. They gave me a standing ovation as I walked from my seat to the podium that was made for this very purpose. I walked majestically to the podium, keeping my eyes fixed on the crowd as they cheered me on. I was tempted t release my aura and watch them now their heads in submission, but that would be suicide.
“Thank you,” I let out confidently as I took my place at the podium, then I gestured for everyone to sit down while I begin my speech. As usual, Cameron followed me to the Podium and stood beside me. She could have chosen to sit back at the high table like my parents and her parents, but she loves being in the spotlight, she can never pass on the chance to be seen and admired by a crowd of people. That is why she hovers around me like a fucking clingy bitch. I simply ignore her presence and went on with my duties. If only she knows how much I despise her.
“As we all know, we have a responsibility to fulfill to ourselves and our families. It is a great responsibility and I must commend each and every one of you for working so hard to save yourselves and your family from destitution and slavery. Even when I was away, you never slacked in your duties and that made me very delighted. I’m so proud of you all, well done!” I commended them all, and they responded with a round of applause and cheered happily.
“I am your Alpha, and I promise never to abandon you, I will always support and encourage you because we share a bond, we are family.
It is the norm for the Huntingtons to provide jobs for you all, and this time, it is not going to be different. Today we acquired some properties to expand our businesses and as we speak, construction Is already in progress and soon, there will be more jobs for everyone. More jobs and more income to settle our taxes. We will never be subjected to slavery!” I announced excitedly, and the crowd go wild in excitement. They applauded me and screamed in excitement, making me smile and nod in approval.
All the while, I kept gazing in her direction, stealing glances at her. I couldn’t look her way for long to avoid suspicion. But I can tell that she still hasn’t gotten the message in trying to pass. She looks excited and she applauded me, just like everyone else. I scoffed at her stupidity, then I decided to take it a bit further,
“All thank to my special friend, Doctor Dominic.” I pointed in his direction, throwing him into the limelight. I found some perfect spots in the city that would be great for our new technological hospital. I was a bit confused about the site to use, but our nice doctor here was kind enough to help me choose this particular spot and it turned out to be the best decision ever. A round of applause for the good doctor.” I requested excitedly, and they obliged my request immediately.
I smirked evilly when I saw him smiling like a fucking idiot. He has no idea that I have just thrown him under the bus. I gestured to Roy and he switched on the projector behind me, and everyone gazed at the video playing behind me. It was the video that was sent to me by the demolition team manager. First, it shows doctor Dominic recording a short video and explaining why this spot would be perfect for the hospital. After his detailed analysis, the video shifted to the demolition process and the Crowd applauded us both as the excavators demolished the entire building, leveling it down to the ground.
I smiled in satisfaction when she turned to him in shock, glaring daggers at him. He wants aware of her predicament, he was not even paying attention to her. He was more interested in the attention he was getting from the crown as they cheered and congratulated us both. I did this to spite her and get back at them for flirting in front of me, but when I saw the tears rolling down her cheeks, I felt so sad and the cold ice in my heart melted immediately.
“For the rest of the evening, I will be taking applications from interested applicants. Do have a lovely evening everyone, and once more, I want to say thank you for the warm welcome, please enjoy the party.”
I had to end my speech that way because I needed to go and check on Valerie. She ran off a few minutes ago, she went towards the restroom and I know that she is going there to cry her heart out. I have hurt her more than I intended to, and the worst part of it is that doctor Dominic has no idea that she is hurt, and neither does get friends. Everyone is busy enjoying the party, they fail to notice the pain and hurt that she is feeling right now. I’m the only one that knows how deeply she is hurt, and that is because I’m feeling her pain as well.
I instruct Roy and Cameron to get the stage prepped for the applicants to start coming up to me. It is a job for only Roy to handle, but I asked Cameron to help out because I need to keep her busy, I don’t want her hovering around me as I go after Valerie to check up on her. I’ll have to put up with her clingy attitude until I find a way to get rid of her permanently. She loves feeling important, so I know she enjoys being on the stage like a star and giving orders to the omegas like the Luna.
I could see the applicants, strolling to join the queue in front, while the rest of the guests sat in their seats, enjoying the many refreshments served by the omegas. I went out of the hall, heading towards the parking lot. I used my iPad to turn off all the security cameras in the building and surroundings. I had to circle the building and came back through the back door. I saw the lycan moles on my tail, I had to lose them first before I sneaked back inside and sneaked into the restroom where she is hiding behind a closed door, crying.
I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket and I realized that the podium was ready for the applicants to be interviewed. I could hear her sniffling and sobbing silently in the lady’s restroom. With my heightened hearing, I listened for any other movement inside the lady’s restroom, but I couldn’t hear any. All I want to do is to pull her into my arms and assure her that I would take care of her and make her feel better, but I couldn’t stay long with her because my presence is required in the hall right now. I couldn’t even let her see my face, I don’t want her to be having any ideas about us, at least not yet.
So I turned off the light from the corridors and I plunged us into complete darkness. I could hear her sad voice as she called out to me and tried to find out who is out there, but I ignore her. I used my heightened eyesight to locate her in the restroom, I could see her legs under the door, and I knew she had been sitting in the toilet seat, crying.
“W… W… Who’s there?
Who are you?
I don’t want any trouble, Cameron. I won’t tell you precious mate about your affairs, so please leave me alone. I want to be left alone.” She called out from behind the door. It is easy to tell that she thinks it’s Cameron again. I get that there is something between them, and I would have loved to play a mind game with her and get her to tell me about Cameron’s affairs, but I don’t have any more time. I need to satisfy my beast’s desires and I also need to get her to stop crying because it hurts me to see her this way too.
“Come here, my love. Come to me Val,” I called out to her, releasing my aura for a few seconds so it doesn’t get detected by the lycans out there searching for me. It is a huge risk I’m taking, but I know It will be worth it. I heard the sound of the lock as she opened the door slowly, I guess she must have caught a whiff of my scent and also sensed my aura.
“Alpha…
Is that really you?” she called out in a scared voice, trying to get me to respond to her. I saw the color of her eyes and I knew she was using her wolf’s sight. She walked towards me and stood in front of me, gazing into my eyes, smiling warmly. Her scent hit me with a force that made me lose my senses. Instead of comforting her as I intended, I found myself pulling her in for a passionate kiss.
