Discovering The Truth

Book:The Alpha And His Broken Mate Published:2025-2-8

Still Michael’s POV
The leader of the rogue continued glaring furiously at me. I could feel his anger, it is mixed with fear and it kept rolling out of him in huge waves.
I just made it clear to him that I came here to talk to him and I won’t leave without getting the answers to all of my questions.
With the way he is glaring at me, I know that if he could, he would have killed us all at once. They hate us as much as we hate them. I can’t really say that I blame them, this feud between us has been going on for a very long time now.
The others around him looked scared and nervous but they still put up a tough look, trying to look strong and powerful. Their leader has a thoughtful look, I could tell that he is weighing his options, thinking of his next course of action.
I know I sounded tough and ruthless earlier but deep within me, am actually hoping he makes the right decision. It would be quite unfair to end their lives this way because they weren’t doing anything to hurt anyone, they are simply living their lives calmly and peacefully.
“Follow me,” he finally said in a defeated and weak tone, giving me a deadly look that shows just how much he hates my guts, before turning to head inside his packhouse.
I smiled at his thoughtfulness. Only a wise leader knows when to back down from a fight. He just proved that he cares so much about the safety of his people, that is why he chose to have a talk with his enemies so their lives would be saved.
Just to be cautious, I left the warriors outside to keep watch, while Brian and Derek followed me into his packhouse. I’ve never seen a packhouse that is this beautiful.
I’ve visited many great and mighty werewolf pack around the world but this one is just so beautiful and classy. Only the King’s magnificent palace could be compared to this packhouse, It’s simply adorable.
“Don’t react to anything you hear in there and don’t ask stupid questions. Your reactions to this news would determine if I can trust you with a much bigger secret.” I told my friends we walked into the Alphas office.
They looked quite confused, but they kept their thoughts to themselves and acted cool as we sat in front of the Alpha and his high-ranked wolves, who still look terrified of us.
“Why are you here??” the Alpha asked with his eyes fixed directly on me.
“Tell me the truth about Brandon Wellington and his revolt against the king.” I told him pointedly, watching him closely as he gasped in shock and frowned his face in annoyance.
“He sent you didn’t he?? He couldn’t find more lies to tell about us so he sent you here to force words out of our mouth, then he can label us as liars and traitors and he will come after us with full force and kill us all.
Unfortunately, Prince Michael, You won’t get a word out of my people and I. We have no interest in provoking the wicked king, As a matter of fact, we have decided to go on living our lives peacefully until the moon goddess decides to send the chosen one that would put an end to his tyranny.
You can go back and tell your father that we know nothing about Brandon Wellington’s attempt to make peace. Tell him we know absolutely nothing. We only want to be left alone so we can live a normal life. We want to be left in peace.” he told us in a strict tone, trying so hard to keep his tone void of any emotions. I could tell that the subject of Brandon Wellington is a very sensitive one to them.
They all looked so sad when I mentioned his name. They must have adored him when he was alive. His death had shattered their hopes for a better future, making them vulnerable and weak. I really wish I could just walk away and leave them to their lives but am now in the middle of all this, it is my job to make them happy again, so I have to know everything.
“How would you recognize the chosen one or should I say, the great white wolf, are there specific traits to look out for??” I asked him once more.
He looked uncertain and suspicious and he shared a strange look with his high-ranked wolves before turning back to me with curiosity written all over his face.
“Why are you here Prince Michael, Does the king know that you are here??” he responded with a question of his own.
“Just answer the question.” I scolded in an irritated tone. He’s trying to play mind games with me by asking me meaningless questions that would distract me from my mission.
“We have no way to identify the great white wolf. All we know is that he or she would be blessed with the powers of the moon goddess. That’s all we know. Now get the hell out of here.” he announced.
“What would you say if I tell you that I’ve found the great white wolf, would you be willing to listen to me??” I asked him with a smirk and they all gasped in absolute shock as they all turned to stare at me with their eyes wide open.
Even my friends were surprised at my words. They were beyond shocked, they looked mortified because talking to the rogues about the great white wolf sure sounded like treason. I knew I had said too much already, so I decided to hold on and keep them guessing.
I pulled out my complimentary card that held all my contact details and I placed it on the table in front of me,
“Let’s go, guys, I’m sure the Alpha would come get us when he’s ready to talk. I’ll share my secrets when he’s ready to share his.
I hope you don’t mind Alpha, I’ll have to take one of your cars and a guard too. Am not walking through the woods in my human form again and you don’t want me to ruin my tux, do you??” I asked with a sarcastic smile as I walked out of his office with my friends following closely behind me.
I know he will come and search for me because it is just too tempting for him to resist. They’ve been waiting for the chosen one for such a long time, that is why I know that they would do anything to find him, including sharing all their secrets with me.
A car was already waiting for us when we stepped out of the house, I think he mind linked one of his guards to come over and give us a lift.
We got into the car and the guard drove off immediately. I catch him glancing back at us through the rearview mirror but he turns away immediately and acts normal. I chuckled lightly when I perceived his fear. He was sweating so profusely and his grip on the steering wheel was just too firm.
Who would blame him?? He’s a rogue wolf that’s stuck in a car with three Lycans. I’d be scared too if I was in his shoes. I simply ignored him and focused on the road, trying to map it in my head so we can locate it when next we come.
I decided to let the guard drive us back to the hotel, that way, he would know exactly where to find me when the Alpha decides to come search for me, besides, I don’t want them to know that I just purchased that house. If they decided to dig deeper, It could lead back to Arabella and I don’t want them to find her yet. So I mind linked the warriors to meet us back at the hotel.
As we headed back to the hotel, I could feel Derek and Brian staring at me. They are dying to ask me about it but they can’t do it right now because the rogue guy would hear our conversation.
We got off the car when we got to the hotel and the guard drove off so quickly that you’ll think he was being chased by a ghost. I chuckled at his silly reactions as we took the lift to our flour, heading back to my suite.
“Start talking, right now.” Derek ordered sternly as soon as we got into the room and shut the door. Sometimes, he tends to forget his place.
“Watch your tone Reks,” I scolded him furiously, sounding so strict.
“I’m sorry man, but I just want to know what’s going on, For fucks sake, what was the meaning of that stunt you just pulled?? If it gets to the king’s ear, it could be considered as treason.” he said in anger and frustration.
I totally understand his anger. If this gets to my father, they may end up being banished and killed. It’ll be very unfair to get them into trouble for something they know nothing about. I just have to come clean with them and let them decide if they want to get involved or back down completely.
“Why can’t you trust us with the truth, Mike??
We’ve been friends all our lives and we have never done anything to betray your trust or lie to you. Yet you keep us in the dark always and you keep all these secrets from us. It’s not right man, we’re like family, and family stick together and trust each other.” Brian muttered sadly.
“It’s not that man. I trust you guys completely but I just don’t want you to freak out because this story is just so bizarre. It’s just too crazy to believe and it’s going to get us all in trouble, that’s why I don’t want to involve you guys yet until I’ve marked end claim her as my mate.” I explained with a defeated sigh.
“Does this have anything to do with Arabella??” Derek asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Actually guys, her name is Arabella Wellington, daughter of Brandon Wellington, the same girl I rejected twenty years old.” I let out with a small smile.
They both look at each other in confusion, before turning back to look at me with questions written all over their faces.
“I know right, it’s pretty crazy but that’s the truth. She’s the same girl from twenty years ago. Somehow the moon goddess decided to bring us back together. It’s just like we were destined to be together and no matter what happens, we’re always going to find our way back to each other.” I explained calmly.
They both sat frozen on the couch, looking at me in a dazed like state.
“How on earth is that possible?? we thought you rejected her??” Brian yelled in confusion as he pulled his hand through his hair.
“Well, I didn’t really want to do it but dad forced me to and he also forced her to say the words to accept my rejection. I think it didn’t work because we were both forced to do it.
She’s still my mate and won’t let her go.” I told them pointedly.
“How about your father, how would you explain all this stuff to him, he could have you killed you know. He’ll kill you and he’ll banish us forever, what the hell are we going to do??” Derek complained bitterly, as he stood up and paced the room in frustration.
“Errmmmm, about that, There’s something else you need to know guys.” I let out once more, giving them that weird smile that indicates that am about to drop a bigger bomb on them right now.
“You had better tell us everything Mike, our lives are on the line as well, you can’t hide anything from us. You have to place all the cards on the table so we know exactly what we are getting into,” Brian warned in anger, sounding so serious.
Jeez!!
Who knew that Derek could get angry. He is always so cheerful and jovial, but now he’s sounding even more serious than Derek.
“I think she is blessed by the moon goddess, I think she has some magical powers that she isn’t aware of because her wolf has been suppressed for a very long time.”
I wanted to say more but I had to pause when I caught the look on their face, the looked so stunned that the colour was drained out of their face completely. The shock on their faces had me eyeing them suspiciously because they looked so damn terrible.
“Errmmmm, are you guys still breathing??” I asked after some minutes when they wouldn’t stop looking like zombies.
