Settling In Nicely

Book:The Alpha And His Broken Mate Published:2025-2-8

Arabella’s POV
I was woken up by the rays of sunlight that penetrates my window. I couldn’t open my eyes because of the splitting headache that never seems to leave me.
I had a nightmare again. The same nightmare that has hunted me ever since I left the silver moon pack. That’s why I keep having these headaches.
I guess I still can’t shake off the feeling of being caught. I still have this nagging feeling in my heart. It feels like am being watched by someone, like there’s someone close by that’s keeping an eye on me.
I know that it’s all in my head. My mind is just playing tricks on me. I haven’t had any encounters with anyone from our pack. I don’t even know if they had even bothered to search for me. They’ll probably celebrate my departure and tell the King that I got killed in a rogue attack.
It’s been seven years of normalcy. Seven years of peace and tranquility in my life, except for the nightmares though. It’s been going on for so long and it’s so damn frustrating.
After I escaped from the Silver moon pack, I ran as fast as I could which was quite hard because my wolf is still weak and asleep and is also carrying two boxes.
I don’t have any clothes on me because I don’t own any other clothes except for my work outfits and they are all ragged and dirty.
It was in the wee hours of the morning that I finally got to the train station. I didn’t waste any minute at all. I booked a one way ticket to Los Angeles and once I had my ticket in my hand, I boarded the train awaited for it to take off.
I sat quietly, observing my surrounding, praying I don’t get caught, and soon enough, the train took off, zooming off to the west coast, with so many fears and so many hopes.
I haven’t been to Los Angeles before, but for some reason, this was the first place that popped into my mind when I wanted to get my train ticket. I guess it’s because I saw some documents that indicate that my dad has a lot of properties in Los Angeles.
I didn’t have much time to study the files properly and even if I did, I wouldn’t be able to understand a thing because I was under so much pressure at that time. But am sure he has properties in LA, so that’s where I decided to start my new life, besides, it’s a long distance away from her, e and am sure that our Alpha would never search for me here.
It took me several months to settle into my new life. Los Angeles is a very big city, but after a few months of touring the city and enjoying my freedom, I got to know a lot about the city. I contacted my father’s lawyer who also happens to be his friend, and he was too happy to help me recover all my father’s properties.
Turns out that he had also warned my father to quit his rebellion against the king but my father was too strong headed and stubborn, that’s why he went ahead to challenge the King.
Well, all that is now in the past. Right now, Arabella is a college graduate with a degree in both business administration and hotels management.
When my father’s lawyer, Mr. Frederick Douglass, got my inheritance together, I found out that my father had built a chain of hotels and other businesses building that he planned to use in running his kingdom when he becomes king.
He had actually thought that he would defeat the lycan king. He had everything planned out on how he would run the werewolf community. I think he planned to make Los Angeles his base because more of his buildings and hotels are here in Los Angeles.
After I got everything in my name, I sold off the secluded buildings that he’d built in the woods that were supposed to be occupied by his band of white wolves and I sold off every other building that looks suspicious, like the one he had built like a palace, I guess that was his own house that he had built for us.
If not for the memories it would bring to my mind, I would have actually loved to live in that house because dad made it, specially for his family. He made it for us and I just can’t live in that house without thinking of them and imagining how beautiful our lives would have been if they were still alive.
I put them up for sale and over the years, some have been sold already but some are still in the market and once we get buyers for them, am getting rid of all of them. I don’t want anything that would link me to my past life.
I focused all my attention on the hotels and my other businesses. The hotels are doing quite well because I got the best managers. Also, I have Debby and Declan.
Oh wait,
I haven’t told you about Debby and Declan right??
Well, I met them a few months after I got to Los Angeles. Mr. Frederick Douglass always makes me attend many social functions so I can fit in with the elites and celebrities.
Debbie is actually a poor orphan thats trying to survive in this city. She was working on one of the parties I attended and she had mistakenly spilled some drink on me while she was serving. It was so embarrassing but I didn’t mind it at all because I’ve been in her position before.
She was so surprised to see me smiling warmly at her instead of screaming at her and having her fired without pay. Luckily though, Declan was standing close by and he had witnessed the entire event. He lent me his jacket so I can cover up my stained dress.
Declan is the only son of the mayor. He could have also scolded and fired Debbie but he forgave her. And that was how we all became close friends. I took Debbie in and we went to college together. She’s been living with me ever since and am so happy to call her my best friend.
She helps me do supervise my hotel managers. I don’t have much time to check on the hotels because I spend the better part of my days running my other numerous businesses.
“Smiling”
You bought that, didn’t you??
You actually believed that I send the better part of my days working and working, just like I did at my former pack??
Well, that’s a big fat lie!!
All my life I’ve worked my ass off and I was treated like trash. Right now, I have enough money to last five lifetimes. I can’t continue working as hard as I used to because it only reminds me of how hard I used to work and how badly I was treated.
I spend the better part of my days in my little art studio downtown. It’s so much fun to capture a happy moment with family and friends. I love taking pictures and painting wonderful beautiful pictures, happy moments that I never got to have while I was growing up.
It’s so much fun to watch the joy and happiness in the faces of people. It brings a lot of smiles to my face and it keeps me happy always.
Trust me, I always keep a close eye on my businesses, I make sure everything runs smoothly, but I prefer spending my days in the art studio. It’s not just a hobby, it’s an escape from my past sadness.”
I got up from my bed and stretch my hand to grab the aspirin that’s sitting on my bedside table. I always have a cup of aspirin close by because of my constant headaches and nightmares.
I was just about to step down from the bed when the door burst open and in came a happy looking Debbie. She’s smiling so widely and she’s doing that crazy dance she always does when she’s happy.
I could not help laughing out loud as I cheered her on,
“Go Debbie, Go, Debbie, Go Debbie.”
She continued dancing happily and I could not resist the urge to join her in her happy dance.
“Alright Debbs, enough dancing already. Now could you please tell me why we’re dancing??” I begged after joining in her fun dance for a few minutes.
“Well, since you asked so nicely, am going to tell sis.
We finally have a buyer for your house in the woods!!” she announced happily.
“And guess what else, he didn’t ask for a discount. He only wants pictures of the whole house and boom, he’ll make payments immediately.
He needs it done before noon. I need you to take the pictures yourself Bells. You know how long we’ve been wanting to get rid of that house that looks like a hunted house.
I still can’t believe that someone wants to buy that house.” She said with a grimace.
I laughed as she made that funny face when she described that house. I don’t really blame her though. That house is not built for humans, that’s why it looks like a scary hunted Castle.
Debbie knows a little about my secret identity but she doesn’t know much about us and that’s why she sees that house as a strange house.
I wonder who the buyer is. No normal human would prefer to live that far in the forest. Could it be a werewolf??
Maybe they’ve finally traced me to Los Angeles. But that’s so unlikely, I mean they never really liked me, so why on earth would they search for me.
No. I won’t let my fear stop me from selling off that house.
“When is the buyer coming??” I asked Debbie.
“In two days. He said he wants to personally supervise the renovation, so he’ll come in after making payments, but first, we need to take the pictures and send to him as soon as possible, then we can know his final decision.” she really as she eyed me suspiciously because shes expecting me to jump up at this offer but am kind of having second thoughts and am holding back a little.
But I gave her a small smile that says,
“Am fine girl and everything is okay.”
She still had that skeptical look on her face even when I asked her to go dress up so we can go over to the studio and gather my team, then we can all go over to my father’s house, the house that’s suppose to be filled with happy memories of me and my family.
We’re going to go over, take cute pictures of it and hopefully, we’re going to sell it off and get it out of the market.
The buyer is coming in two days so even if he’s a werewolf from our pack, he wouldn’t be able to catch my scent after two days.
Only Lycans have such good sense of smell and it’s so unlikely that a lycan would come this far out. It’s practically impossible and am sure it’s never gonna happen because I did my research and I know that the lycans never come out here so an safe here.
I’ll go take those pictures and get rid of that house,
piece of cake.
