Mia’s POV
“I told you to sit back and let me hand this contract, Mia. I got it under control, I can get you that contract, I promise you. I’ve gotten past the initial stage and I’m confident that my pitch is too great to be dismissed. You can stay back and let me get you this contract, then after I secure your contract, you can resume at your new office building.” Drake implored, trying so hard to convince me to stay back at home and rest.
It’s been five months since I had that terrible encounter with Riley and his whore Loretta. Drake has been by my side all this while, and I’m so glad that was able to heal faster than anyone expects. The doctor had been so amazing to me and my family. When he saw that I was ready for the surgery, he didn’t wait for Drake’s permission before he could take me into the theater. He carried out my surgery, even before my husband could sight the consent papers. He took a great risk, just to save my life. Drake said he is being so nice to us because he wants something back in return.
What he did there is not just a danger to me, the patient. It is a danger for him as well because he could be arrested for that, and his license to perform surgery on people would be seized. He could lose his job, and he could never practice his career ever again. He knows all this very well, yet he risked it all, just to save my life. As it stands now, I don’t think my family would understand me if I decide to make a huge donation to that hospital. Drake had said that the doctor was just trying to seek favor from him, but the truth is that there is nothing on earth that he could ever ask of that could be more important than what he did for me. I literally owe him my life, and I intend to pay him for a job well done.
It took me almost two weeks to recover fully. The doctor employed Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber to promote healing. Oxygen has a profound influence on wound healing, as any oxygen deficiency stunts the body’s ability to heal.
He had explained all this to Drake, but I didn’t really expect such great improvement in just a few days. It felt like a fucking miracle, I was able to move around on my own in just two weeks. And when the pains subsided, I decided to pull off the dressing, but we could not find the scar beneath the bandage, it was gone, I mean, completely gone. After two weeks, Drake took me back to the hospital for a check-up, because he was as shocked as I was. But we got the same report as we got when I was discharged from the hospital. I’m perfectly sound, and it’s very exciting to know.
It’s been a cool journey, so far and I’m proud of myself for not slipping into depression when I found out that Carrie had been killed that day. The worst part of it all is that I am the one that dragged her over there, and now that she is dead, I just can’t stop blaming myself for her death. No matter what they say to me, no matter how they try to make me feel good, I still can’t shake off that feeling of guilt within me.
They all rally behind me and I felt the love and care from my family and the Osborne’s as well. And then I met little Raymond and Amira and Lucy. They might up my world and make me want to be a mother as well. I admire Casey for being a strong woman, and an amazing mom as well. Charles is a great guy and a good friend. I adore him for being an amazing father to his son, and a good friend to me when my husband is not around.
We practically live together in that house and I cherish their presence in our lives because they fill up a vacuum in our hearts that we never even knew existed. Riley’s betrayal created that vacuum in our hearts, but the joy and laughter in the house have erased every anger and pain that we all felt five months ago. Casey’s daughters needed a breath of fresh air in their lives, and so did Raymond. Luckily, the girls are doing okay now. A few days after Amira was found, Lucy was seen roaming the streets alone. She kept crying and asking for help until she me someone who agreed to help her. She was taken to the cops and she told them how she got abandoned by the guys in the van. They couldn’t reach Austin on phone, so they had to let he go immediately to avoid attracting unwanted attention to themselves. The kids now live together as siblings.
They found comfort in each other, and as they continue to bond and spend time with each other, their love and fondness for each other continue to grow, you could never know that they are just friends because they are as close as siblings. And from the smile on Charles and Casey’s faces, I’m trying to feel that the bond between them has gone more than casual friends or siblings.
I really can’t tell if there is something there, and honestly, I’m hoping my hunch is right because they look so perfect together, and they seem to care about each other so much, they don’t care about the past anymore, and they certainly deserve new beginnings and a second chance, after all, they have been through.
For the past five months, my husband has been searching for his brother, Riley, and his cohorts. When I first came back from the hospital, he hardly spends time at home because he couldn’t sit back and relax when those guys are still roaming freely in this city. He nearly went mad with rage when he couldn’t track anyone of them anymore. He was so restless and cranky for almost three weeks.
“How is it possible that a bunch of Russian thugs and their bosses could disappear from this city without my knowledge? They couldn’t fall off the surface of the earth, could they?” he asks himself angrily as he works so hard to locate their hideout. This time, he doesn’t bother with secrets anymore, he let us know what is going on so we could all watch our backs no matter where we are.
The entire house was swarming with security personnel. He intensified the security system in our beach house and he did the same for my parents and his family as well. The only problem we are having now is how to locate Riley, Loretta, and the other bastard named Austin Foster.
Drake has tried everything he could to find them, he was so eager to find them that he ignored me for a while and focused his attention on finding them. But after a few weeks, he ceased all operations and focused on the company. He never said a word to anyone, he just decided to move on with his life, and we followed his lead, as we always do.
I didn’t bother asking him about his brother because I thought to myself that he could be trying to put it all behind him. He was so caring and loving, he took care of me and nursed me back to health. He never left me side, except for the times he went to work. He is more focused on the company, and he has managed to restore it back to the way it used to be before he handed it to Riley.
Drake didn’t let me go back to work because he wanted me to get back to my normal healthy self. He took care of his father’s company and ours as well. He renovated and refurbished the Osborne group of companies and this time, Drake didn’t give us a floor as Riley did. Rather, he gave us an entire building.
It is still under construction, but I know for a fact that we have a conducive office space to carry out our business. I’m so close to getting that contract for my family. Or rather Drake is so close to getting that contract for my family. He has been chasing that contract for the past few months and I’m hoping we get it right this time. A lot has been going on since I got hurt by Riley and Loretta at that meeting.
Loretta promised to make me lose that contract if I don’t let her have Drake, but Drake is not seeking for anybody’s help this time. He has connections at the top level of government, but that didn’t make him proud and arrogant. He simply followed the rules, and he did everything he was asked to do, submitting every document that was requested.
He has been on this issue for some weeks now, and finally, they are going to be awarding the contract to the best company that deserves it. It’s the day I have been waiting for and I know I am strong enough to leave this house and get back to work. But Drake is being so stubborn!
He wouldn’t let me go out no matter how I plead with him, and I just don’t know why. I’m guessing he doesn’t trust me to take care of myself and I don’t know how I can prove to him that I’m no longer the foolish and stubborn child that he married. I would never dream of making such a mistake ever again.
But I need to leave this damn house. I need to get back to work, and I certainly need some me time. I can’t remember the last time I hung out with anyone. With Carrie gone, I have no one to bring me up to date on the latest actions and gossip in this city. I’m bored and tired of this fucking house, why won’t he understands me!
