Mia’s POV
“Come into my office and have lunch with me. I picked up some takeout from the French restaurant downtown, I would love to spend some time with you. I miss you, dear wife.”
I hissed when I read this message from Drake. He must think that I’m naive and stupid. I walked out on Drake, stepped down from his car, and took a cab to work. And guess what he did…
He let me go…
He fucking sat there and watched me leave. He did not even try to talk me out of it, he made no attempt to stop me. In fact, I believe that this is exactly what he wanted. He wanted me out of the house so he can go back home and screw his fucking lover. I expected him to come after me, I thought his love for me would make him abandon his stupid ideas of returning back home to sort out whatever silly issues he claims to be having with her, but I was wrong. He let me go, he watched me leave and he did nothing about it. I guess he doesn’t love me as much as I thought he did.
He spent so many hours with her in his house, doing God knows what. I keep imagining him in bed with her, my mind conjured different pictures of what could be happening between them in my absence. I felt so disappointed with his actions that he never even called to check up on me. He simply sent his thugs to hover around me like freaking vultures, while he takes all the time he needs to pleasure his slutty girlfriend. I’ve never felt so insulted in my life, I feel so hurt and angry at the same time. I had to keep myself busy in the office, I worked so hard to get my mind off of him. But no matter how I try, my mind kept straying to what Rosalie had said to me earlier when I told her that Drake is my husband. She seems confident that he would take her back, she said he doesn’t want to be with me and he doesn’t want to be seen with me. She said,
“Wife indeed!
And where is your ring, if I may ask?
When and where was your wedding held?
I never heard of his wedding, and I know Drake Osborne. He always talked about having a huge wedding with me. He wants his wedding to be the talk of the town, he wishes to have his wedding on an island, and we planned to have our honeymoon on a cruise ships.
You never had any of that, and that simply means that he doesn’t want to have all that with you, he doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life with you. This marriage is a sham, and I’m here to get back my man. He wants me back, I know how much he loves me and I know he can never live without me. I’m his true love, I’m his…”
And now I’m beginning to think that she had been right after all. I mean, if he doesn’t love her as she claims, he would not leave me alone this morning just to go and be with her. And now he expects me to abandon what I’m doing and run over to his office and have lunch with him?
Oh please,
I don’t have time for that, besides, Tracy got me lunch some hours ago. So I’m pretty sure that I can do without his lunch today. I can’t let him touch me with those filthy hands he used to touch her, I can’t even imagine myself in his arms right now. He looks filthy and disgusting to me.
Yuck!
“Thanks for the offer, but I’m not interested, Drake. You can invite your precious Rosie for lunch, I’m pretty sure she needs it better than I do.” I responded.
I knew the moment he got my message, I can see him clearly from my office across the hallway. I think he gave me this particular office because he wanted to keep a close eye on me. I could remember when I first got an office in this building, Riley was my boyfriend then and he had told me that the last floor is inaccessible to him and everyone else in the building because it belongs to his father. He had always dreamed of having access to that floor, he always bugged his father to let him take over the company in his brother’s absence, he wanted to be granted access to that floor.
I never really understood his reasons for coveting this office, but now that I’m here, I now understand why. This is not just an office, it’s so beautiful and homey, so relaxing. Apart from the fact that it gives you a good view of the city, it also has many things that make you feel relaxed while you work. I could as well use the suite within the main office to nap a little. It’s just so beautiful.
My office has floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows. I have an amazing view of the city and all my surroundings. Drake’s office is just across the hallway from mine. I saw him walk past my office, he looked so shabby and disheveled. I guess he didn’t have much time to check out his appearance because he is already late for work. He glanced my way when he walked past my office, but I ignored him and focused on my work.
Even when he sat in his office, I still felt his eyes on me. I felt him staring at me fixedly, but I acted oblivious to his stares. If he plans to screw two girls in one day, then that is his problem. But as for me, I do not wish to be the second girl he screws today. I don’t let him disrespect me, not now, not ever!
“Don’t make me beg for it, Mia. I miss you. I can see it in your eyes, my love. I know you miss me too.” He responds with a smile, and I scowled at him, wiping off that stupid smile from his face.
“Maybe if you stop staring so hard at me, then you will stop seeing things that aren’t true. Stop distracting me and let me work!” I retorted.
Oh wait,
I just recalled that I can pull down the blinds in my office if I require some privacy. I got up from my swivel seat and walked up to the floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows. I pulled down the blinds on all three sides, leaving only the side that gives me a good view of the city. This way, I would not be seen by Drake or any other person on this floor. This is so much better, I can now continue with my work without bothering about anyone staring lustfully at me. By anyone, I mean, Drake Osborne.
“You know I love it when you act so childish, it fucking turns me on!” he texts me, adding a love emoji at the end of his message. I think this guy is insane, or maybe he thinks that this is all some big comedy show where everyone acts like fucking clowns. I refuse to be a part of this silly comedy show, so I chose not to respond to his messages anymore. If I keep responding to him, he might think that I’m kidding around as well.
Besides, I’m too busy to play along with his silly shenanigans. I’ve already wasted a few minutes in the cafeteria, tackling Loretta. Then when I got back to my office up here, I still had a standoff with Riley who keeps insisting that I come back to him or suffer dire consequences. The idiot thinks he can find his way back to me.
He sounded just like Rosalie, the only difference between the two situations is that I turned him down and sent him out of my office. I did not go running back into his arms as Drake ran back home to Rosalie. I would have told him about my encounter with Loretta and his brother today, but I don’t think he deserves that information. If he wanted to know about everything happening around me, then he needs to stay around me. I won’t come crying and complaining to him like a silly spoilt child.
I will never do it.
In fact, I even instructed the guards he left with me not to let him know about it. It wasn’t that serious, I handled it pretty well, so I don’t think there is any need to bother him this way. Besides, this is what he deserves for leaving me alone in this office all morning.
I’m working on the files that he instructed me to sort. I’m pursuing a contract with the government that could restore my family back to the way we used to be. It’s huge, it involves so much work, so I need to carefully plan it to the last detail, I want to handle all the details by myself, that way I won’t have anything to worry about anything.
But before I start processing the paperwork for the contract, I need to handle this task that Drake entrusted to me, I need to check all our ship’s manifests for the last few months, and I need to be sure that we weren’t tricked into smuggling illegal cargo in and out of this country. Frame wants me to retrace my steps and examine our ship for anything unusual, he also asked me to interrogate our workers and find out anything unusual.
He thinks we have a mole in our midst, he thinks our missing ship was sabotaged by someone. I did not honestly believe that, but after collecting various information from my security team and from my secretary, Tracy. It’s obvious that something is wrong somewhere because this information is just not adding up.
I try coming up with different excuses that could explain the missing footage from our security camera and the excess cargo on our ships, but nothing seems to be adding up and no matter how hard I think about it, I can’t seem to get the answers to the numerous questions on my mind. And the funny part of it is that the people that are supposed to be in charge, the staffers that are supposed to give me answers to my questions are all unavailable. They are either confirmed dead or missing.
Weird right?
I couldn’t think straight as it is, I am beginning to come up with different conspiracy theories in my head, I just don’t understand what is going on here. I kept asking Tracy, but she is as ignorant as me. We are both clueless about the things happening around us, and that is so frustrating. I am beginning to get frantic, I stood up to get a glass of wine from the fridge next to my office couch. I heard the door opening, and when I turned around, I saw him walking through the door with a basket in his hand,
“Hey beautiful,” he called out to me, startling me.
