“Emmy is here to see you again,” Phoebe said, causing Darryl’s eyes to widen in disbelief. He shook his head, trying to process the information.
Was Emmy deaf or stupid? Hadn’t he made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with Emmy? Darryl’s mind raced with questions.
What does Emmy want this time? Skepticism etched on Darryl’s face as he turned to Phoebe. “Let him in,” he said finally, his tone resigned.
Phoebe nodded and stepped out of the office, giving Darryl the chance to compose himself before facing Emmy. Darryl took a deep breath, preparing for another confrontation.
With a smirk on his face, Emmy opened the door, letting himself into Darryl’s office. “I know I’m not welcome here,” Emmy said, as he settled into the chair.
“Then why do you keep coming? I thought I made myself clear the last time you were here.” Darryl retorted, irritation laced in his voice.
“I’m here because I have something that you might find interesting,” Emmy said with a brazen face.
Emmy knew his presence would irritate Darryl, and he was ready to get on Darryl’s nerves.
“I think you got the whole thing wrong, Emmy. You can never strike my interest.” Darryl spat as he remained in a state of incredulity.
Darryl had ensured to make Emmy understand that he didn’t want him around him, but it is like Emmy didn’t get the message or was he acting clueless? He thought as he glared at Emmy.
“Why not hear me out? I know you haven’t been able to reach Vanessa and you don’t even know her whereabouts.” Emmy said, sounding impudent.
With his eyes wide open, Darryl’s jaw dropped as he heard Emmy’s words. He was shocked that Emmy knew that Vanessa had been out of reach.
Someone must have told him about it, but who could have told him? He pondered, taken aback.
Satisfaction washed over Emmy and a smug smile spread on his face when he saw the look on Darryl’s face. He was pleased to see that he had Darryl exactly where he wanted him to be.
With a satisfying smile, Emmy rose up from the chair, straightened his suit like he was ready to leave Darryl’s office. “When you are ready to hear me out, you know where to find me.” He said, turning to use the door.
“Wait!” Darryl called out. “What exactly do you want me to hear?” He said, his tone resigned.
Impudently, Emmy walked back, his face brazen as he got back to his previous position on the chair.
“I happen to know where you can find Vanessa. And I’m willing to tell you if you give me something in return,” Emmy said.
Now it was Darryl’s time to laugh. Darryl laughed out loudly because he wasn’t expecting to hear what he had just heard from Emmy.
He leaned forward, resting on his desk, his fingers clasping together in front of him. “You are stupid if you think I would believe anything that comes out of your mouth. You think you could fool me because I gave you a chance to talk. You are pathetic.” Darryl insulted him.
Emmy scoffed, “you think I came all the way here to deceive you. Think about it, how do you know about Vanessa’s disappearance?” He said.
“What is your game? Why are you doing this?” Darryl asked, his tone solemn.
“I was with Vanessa for three years, and we were really close. I can tell you that I still know her better than anyone else.” Emmy narrated, causing Darryl’s brow to furrow in anger.
Darryl had no intention of listening to Emmy’s love story with Vanessa. Those were in the past, and he was okay if it remained in the past, away from his knowledge.
Emmy noticed the displeased look on Darryl’s face as he narrated his relationship with Vanessa. He could tell that Darryl and Vanessa had a deeper relationship than anyone could imagine, and he was willing to use it to his advantage.
At the moment, he knew it would be hard to make Vanessa come back to him, but he couldn’t lose Vanessa and not gain something else in her place.
“Can you just go straight to the fucking point? I don’t have all day. What do you want from me?” Darryl inquired, his tone firm and calm.
“I have a potential opportunity, but I can’t get it because I don’t have the right endorsement yet. I want you to partner with my company for a year, so I can get the deal. Emmy explained.
Sighing, Darryl’s hand combed through his hair as he fixed his gaze on Emmy. “You are out of your god-damned mind if you think I will be your partner.” He spat.
“Tania is willing to work with me if I give her Vanessa’s address,” Emmy retorted calmly.
Darryl was shocked to have heard Tania’s name, but he masked the surprised look with a neutral look. He should have known that Tania was the one behind everything. How could he have forgotten her?
“So Tania was the one who told you about Vanessa’s disappearance?” Darryl said with a scoff. “It is better you stay away from Tania before you get into trouble. That’s a friendly advice from me. But you can join forces with her if you want to. I would be happy to see you ruined.”
“The only person getting ruined is you, Darryl. If you happen to know the plans Tania has for you, you won’t reject my offer.” Emmy countered.
“What plans are you referring to? And since when have you been sharing ideas with Tania?” Darryl inquired, willing to know what had brought Emmy and Tania together.
“Here is a friendly advice from me. You could underestimate me, but don’t underestimate Tania.” Emmy muttered.
“What do you know?” Curiosity gnawed at Darryl as he asked.
“When you are ready to strike a deal with me, I will feed you on everything you are willing to know.”
Rising from the chair, he stole a glance at Darryl before walking out of the office. Darryl was left alone in his office, his mind racing with different questions, but he got no answers. At that moment, he knew there was more to what he understood.
