At The Bailey Native Home.
Arthur and Nichole spent most of their day in the bedroom. She arranged the clothes she would put on the next day. Subsequently, she picked up a novel and began to read. Arthur was on the reading desk working when he got calls from clients and partners.
To avoid disturbing her, he got up and informed her, “I will be at the study.”
She nodded in the affirmative and he moved to his study. When she got tired of reading, she slept off while her husband joined her in the bedroom by 6:00 PM. He was able to settle most of the work that needed his attention, which he was unable to settle because of the appearance of people like Mr. Christopher Harry and Stephen.
“Nichole, it is time for dinner,” he woke her up for dinner at 7:00 PM.
Nichole opened her eyes slowly, looked at the wall clock, and exclaimed, “Wow!”
She got out of the bed and dressed up. While at the dinner table, they discussed the events of the day, especially the hired killers on the lonely road. They returned to the bedroom later on and Nichole began to examine the clothes she had arranged.
“Hubby, which of these clothes do you think I should put on tomorrow?”
Arthur looked at the clothes and advised her, “Anything simple will be fine by me.”
He tucked her hair behind her ears and she asked him again, “Simple? How simple?”
“Very simple. I think I can assist,” he volunteered and selected a simple knee-length white gown that could be mistaken for her nurse uniform.
“This would be fine, my dear. You can put on the accessories when we get to the registry.”
Nichole showed resentment and he noticed it. Then, he held her closer to his chest and pleaded, “Nichole, please, it is for our safety. You can never tell how many Christopher and Tricia that are lurking around.”
Nichole got his message immediately and was touched. She looked into his eyes and encouraged him, “It is all right, my dear. No matter what, we will triumph.”
“Yes. Our love shall triumph,” he admitted and kissed her temple.
At The Resort
After they scaled the fence, Stephen and his partner got to the resort and settled in the underground, where gambling activities took place. There were a few gamblers who were drinking and smoking.
Then, he took his seat on one of the tables and asked, “What would you like to take, Jude?”
“Any gin, Boss,” he answered him.
“It is all right,” he said and beckoned to the waiter who was by the minibar.
He arrived at once and he instructed him, “Get some shots of gin for him.”
“It is all right, Boss,” he said and left.
He returned after a few minutes and served him. Without a meaningful breakfast, he began to sip.
After a while, he asked, “How did the police trace us?”
The distraught Stephen explained, “I think the wolves had eliminated the fool and things went south.”
“That is good news. But how did the police link them with us? Were they arrested? Could there have been a confession?”
Stephen gave him a quizzical look before he stared at the wall. After a while, he responded, “I’m waiting for a report from them.”
“It is all right, Boss.”
Stephen, who wished to throw the family into darkness on the same day, pointed out, “I can’t wait to hear the news of his death.”
Now, Jude revealed, “Yes. I have an intel that he would be getting married to his late brother’s wife on Thursday.”
At that point, Stephen was gobsmacked and overtaken by jealousy. He had never thought that Arthur was his rival and could have an intimate relationship with Nichole besides the brother-in-law/sister-in-law relationship.
Then, he looked at Jude angrily and yelled at him, “You must be out of your mind to think that way.”
He smiled dryly and emphasized, “I am quite certain of the information, Boss. You can check the registry for proof.”
“There is no need for that because he would have been dead by now.”
“I know. I trust the competency of the three wolves.”
They sat quietly while Jude sipped his gin. To liven up the quiet atmosphere, Stephen picked up the television remote control that was lying on the television stand and switched it on. They continued with their discussion until their attention was drawn to the Breaking News.
They were familiar with the environment of the scene in the news, but the overjoyous crowd and the journalists would not allow them to see the culprits. The only news they could get at that moment from the breaking news was that the government was proactive in remembering the lonely road, but Stephen was of a different opinion.
“What about it if the government deployed security personnel to the lonely road? Is it not their duty?”
“Exactly. That is the duty of the government,” Jude responded.
Then, Stephen picked up the remote control to turn to another station but Jude halted him, “Hold on, Boss.”
Stephen stopped, put the television remote down, and focused on the reporter.
Now, the reporter began:
(The city police averted what would have thrown the entire city into mourning. While the police and the media houses set out to appreciate the supposed volunteered security personnel at the Lonely Road, we discovered that they were hired killers who had been hired to kill a well-respected member of society. They were yet to disclose their sponsors, and the name of their victim had been kept secret for now. More updates on this as the investigation continues. Ernest Eden. Reporting.)
The fear-stricken Stephen gawked at Jude, who was sweating under the cold underground. They could not say a word until after ten minutes before Jude spoke, “What do we do, Boss?”
Stephen took a deep breath and hinted to him, “We have to stay here for now and watch events as they unfold.”
“It is all right. What about your woman at home?”
“The janitor will take care of her. I will send a message to her informing her that an urgent need came up and I traveled out of town.”
“That’s a good idea. What about the spray?”
“It would wane before five hours. She would be conscious soon.”
“It is okay,” he said and faced the television.
