Nevertheless, he walked to the backyard, and he was surprised to see a strange car. Now, he furrowed his brow and stared at it. When he found his bearing, he dialed his boss’ number. He waited anxiously for his phone to ring, but to his consternation, it was switched off.
“How and when did this car get to this place?” he asked himself.
However, the barrister and his squad were getting impatient, so they knocked on the door. The knock broke the janitor’s reverie, and he walked briskly back to the door.
“Where is your boss, young man?” The barrister asked the twenty-two-year-old lanky boy who was nervous.
The look on the barrister’s face and the presence of the policemen scared him the more.
He attempted to answer his question but found himself stammering, “I, I, wish I knew. He walked in a few minutes ago and…”
“I hope you are not hiding something from us?” The barrister asked him further with an angry tone.
“No, Sir. I am not hiding anything from you,” he answered.
The barrister looked at the two policemen who were standing quietly beside the police van for advice.
Then, the janitor suggested, “To justify your curiosity, you can take a walk around the house.”
Now, the janitor took him around the house, and when they got to the back of the house, the barrister asked, “Why does he park cars here?”
“This is the first time I am seeing a car here,” the janitor informed him.
Barr. Guidance looked at the car and noticed some footprints on the bonnet and the roof. He looked at the vertiginous fence before he looked at the janitor, who also observed the footprints. Then, he called the attention of the policemen, and they came to the backyard.
They looked at the car, fence, and footprints before they asked, “For how long have you been working for him.”
“For three months, Sir.”
“How did you get the job?”
“The Agency which I work with deployed me here.”
“I see. Can we have his contact?”
Without delay, the janitor supplied Stephen’s contact and the police called him. Just like before, his phone was switched off.
Then, the police asked him, “When did you see him last?”
“I saw him drive in a few minutes before you walked in.”
The policemen breathed freely and took pictures of the car and the footprints, and the barrister did the same before they left.
“Could the boss be a criminal?” The janitor thought aloud.
Then, he recalled his activities, especially the last Saturday incident where he had to change his clothes in the car. He quickly walked to the rubbish can, which he had not disposed of. He picked up the clothes that he wore on Saturday and examined it.
“He must have gone to rob and was beaten up?” The janitor concluded when he saw the blood-stained shirt.
At that point, he had no option but to call his agency and file his complaint. Then, the Manager asked him, “What do you want to do now?”
“I feel like leaving the house. I am scared.”
“It is all right. You can come over to the office.”
“I appreciate it, Manager,” he responded.
Immediately, he picked up his little belongings, locked up the house, and left with the key. Unaware that there was an unconscious lady in the bedroom.
At The Lonely Road.
The Head of the Security Team was the first to identify the abnormalities in their dressing. Their collar numbers were not properly displayed. They had the rank of constable attached to their names, and the digit of the Force Identification Number was more than the correct number. Everything happened so fast that the three assassins did not have the opportunity to think. Now, the media houses had jubilantly taken enough clips and shots, waiting to report.
The head of security was not prepared to waste more time on them.
“Cuff them,” he ordered his men
The policemen standing beside him cuffed the three assassins at once. Meanwhile, they did not make any attempt to resist. The other members of the group, especially the media who had been recording, were awestruck.
So, they began to mumble in twos and threes.
“What has happened?”
“I cannot explain.”
At that point, the Head of Security announced, “Let us go.”
They took the criminals and followed him to the station. As far as the three hired assassins were concerned, Mr. Stephen Bailey would sort them out. They hoped on Stephen, who fled from his house when he heard the police siren because he thought that they had killed Arthur and were arrested.
At The Bailey’s Native Home.
Arthur was worried when he walked into his house because the security guard’s response never made sense to him.
While standing in the middle of his parlor, he repeated his question, “Where is my wife’s car?”
“Permit my recklessness, Boss. We have to give out her car keys. You demanded that we should not disturb her because she needed to rest.”
“Yes. So what happened?”
“When Mrs. Zoey Bailey requested Madam’s car because she needed to cover her at work, we gave her the keys.”
He was trying to process the information when he heard, “Welcome back, Hubby.”
Nichole, who just walked downstairs, greeted him and walked close to him.
He placed his left hand on her shoulder and wrapped her with his eyes like a duvet in a cold harmattan before he responded, “Thank you, dear. I hope you had enough rest?”
“Yes, I did. I was not expecting you home now,” she said before they walked towards the staircase.
“Yes. I will work from home. I could not help but come home to keep you company.”
“Oh! I see. Welcome back.”
When they got to the bedroom, Nichole continued with her explanation of how Zoey took her car.
“Sorry, Hubby. The security guard acted on your instructions. My superior called on Zoey to swap with me. She agreed to do that but had a problem with the car. Her husband had traveled out of town for an official assignment.”
“I see.”
“Yes. She quickly got ready and came over to pick up my car. Unfortunately, the security guard had to release my car key since she was relieving me.”
“It is all right. His discretion could not be more apt in the circumstances.”
“You are right, Hubby. Thank you for your understanding.”
“You are welcome.”
Afterward, Arthur began to undress. He removed his jacket and handed it over to her before he let the cat out of the bag.
“Wifey, I have good news for you.”
Nichole, who was hanging the jacket on the suit hanger stopped abruptly and turned. She looked at him like a child who just perceived the aroma of her favorite candy before she walked up to him. She sat beside him and asked, “What is the good news about? I can’t wait to hear it.”
