At Olivia’s Room
She woke up in the morning dejected and depressed as a result of excessive crying and the absence of quality sleep. The last meal she had was the popcorn she took at the cinema, hoping to have dinner with Louis when they got home which never took place.
Notwithstanding, she decided to leave the house very early despite the cold to give her ample time to search for her school mother and also avoid questions from her siblings and domestic staff. For that, she had no breakfast.
“Tracing the Bailey’s home may not be difficult, she said to herself.
At Dover
Denise Bailey, a twenty-four-year-old man, was on a walkout exercise with his mentor and godfather, Mr. Nicholas Fields, who was forty-two years old. He would always appreciate his parents for choosing him to sponsor his baptism. The walkout was their custom every weekend, and they had religiously kept to it. Denise believed so much in him and always looked up to him for counseling on crucial matters that bothered him.
“Godfather, why is my case different? I’m losing my mind,” he asked his regular question.
Nicholas gave him a concerned look and said, “Come, let us sit down.”
He directed him to their regular breakfast spot by the roadside. They took their seats by the table that was arranged for patrons, and he beckoned on a waiter.
He arrived at once and after the greetings, he asked, “What do you care for?”
“Two cups of coffee, please.”
“Noted sir. Give me some minutes,” he said and walked away
While they were waiting for the coffee, Nicholas began, “Denise, my son. You are one of the youths I have known from birth that I’m proud of. You are just anxious for nothing. At the proper time, God will make everything about you perfect, including your love life. When you see your missing rib, you will be convinced undoubtedly that she is your wife.”
Now, Denise was emotional and wished that an Angel should just appear bearing his wife on his wings and deliver her to him that very moment. At that time, the waiter arrived with the two cups of coffee and dropped them on the table.
Nicholas paid and Denise continued, “Godfather, you know that my mom is anxious, and I’m her only son. Though my cousin, Louis, is there, she wishes to carry my baby soon.”
“I’m aware of that.”
“It is like my missing rib is not in this part of the world.”
Nicholas smiled softly and encouraged him, “Denise, believe in yourself. Your expectation shall not be cut off. Your mother will see your children soon. Take your coffee.”
They sipped their coffee silently. Then, Denise, who was a bit relieved, asked, “How is Godmother? It had been a while since I saw her.”
Nicholas smiled and teased, “You have been so preoccupied with your search for your missing rib that you forgot to ask after her. All the same, she is fine.”
The amused Denise laughed softly and replied, “It is not so, Godfather. I will make it up to her. I promise.”
They sipped their coffee and left the breakfast spot for their cars.
“All right, Denise. Let’s be hopeful. See you coming weekend.”
“I appreciate it, Godfather. Regards to Godmother.”
“It is okay,” he said, and they had a handshake, got into their vehicles, and drove off.
On a Road in Dover
It was 8:15 AM; Olivia had arrived at Dover after one hour and twenty-five minutes when she boarded a train from Seven Oaks. She was standing by the road after she got out of the train weak and confused. The morning cold was biting seriously and she was with her little luggage.
Meanwhile, she was worn out as a result of long cry and hunger. The city was strange to her, and she planned to go to a nearby Shelter for Girls before she proceeded with her search. However, the map showed that there was one close to the Train Station. So, she booked a cab and waited for its arrival. Due to her state of mind and the February cold, she kept making mistakes with her bookings, which caused her to spend so much time waiting. Nevertheless, he became sick and was struggling to stand.
However, Denise was driving in her direction, and she mistook his car for an unpainted cab. Then, she attempted to wave and stop the vehicle but it stopped at once.
“Hello, how are you?” Denise asked, looking at a dejected and confused young girl.
“I am f…”
Before she could complete her statement, she slumped, and her phone fell off her hand and shattered. Denise got out of his car at once and walked swiftly to her. He looked around to see if any help could come, but it was a Saturday and most of the residents were indoors. He lifted her into the back seat of his car, opened his car trunk, and dropped her luggage and the shattered phone before he got into his car and drove off.
At Seven Oaks, Louis House.
When Louis woke up, he could not believe that Olivia left his house the previous night with his pregnancy.
“Olivia, Olivia,” he called out.
Based on her medical history which he was aware of, he recalled that she could not withstand stress for a long time, how much more when pregnancy was involved.
“How could she have left the estate at 10 PM? Aww!”
He rubbed his hand backward on his short curly hair with the fade haircut several times before he thought of giving her a call. To his amazement, her line could not connect. He tried again but got the same result.
“I hope she got to her house safely,” he mumbled.
Now, Louis went berserk and asked, “What have I done to myself? My woman and my baby?”
He hurriedly picked up his car keys and fled to his car. Now, his domestic staff members who saw the way he ran out of the house knew that something was wrong. He drove off, not knowing where to start his search. Going to her house was out of the question because the security guards would not let him in. At that point, he had no choice but to risk it.
He drove to the quarters for Missionaries at Badan Powell Road, stopped at the gate, got out of his car, and walked to the security men.
Then, one of them inquired, “How may we help you, Young Master?”
Meanwhile, the troubled Louis attempted to compose himself before making his request known.
“Good morning to you, Officer. I want to visit the McGregor.”
“Mr. McGregor and his wife had been on Foreign Missions abroad. Sorry about that,” he informed him dismissively.
“Thank you, Officer, for informing me. I’m aware of that, I’m here to see Olivia, their daughter.”
“Oh! I see. Let me call the apartment.”
“I appreciate it, Officer.”
Louis was lucky to have met a security officer who was not aware of the standing order from McGregor not to let him into the quarters anytime he showed up. Then, the officer called the flat and the janitor picked up the call.
“Hello. Someone is at the gate. He wished to see Olivia,” he informed her.
At that time, Louis’s heart was in his mouth as he looked anxiously at the officer.
“Let me check her room,” the janitor replied.
To Louis, the waiting period seemed like an eternity. Soon, the call came again through the security landline, and the officer picked it up.
“She is not around,” she announced and the officer responded, “It is okay. Thank you.”
He looked at the young man before him, whom he was sure must have heard what the Janitor said, and informed him dismissively, “Young Master, she is not around. Have a pleasant day.”
At that moment, Louis’s condition became worse than when he came. He thanked the officer and walked back to his car. He was sweating profusely under the cold and had no clue where she could be.
All the same, he turned on his ignition and drove off. Likewise, he could not explain how he got back to his house.
“What came over me? The woman that I had waited for three years to be out of school before I went to bed with her. The girl I loved with my life is missing with my pregnancy.”
