Isabella
“I want to see home, muffin,” He said..
“What?” I looked at him star struck…
“What’s happening? What is actually going on?” I thought staring at him.
“I want to see home,” He repeated like I didn’t hear him the first time.
“What do you say Isabel?” He gave me a quizzical look, waiting for my response.
“This was him waiting for my answer, right? Thus was he asking him to take him home? Like my family? Or I’m just crazy and hearing things now?” I thought in my head, my eyes still widened staring at him.
“I don’t know what to say. I’m shocked,” my voice cracked a bit when I spoke.
“Say yes, maybe,” He gave a pleading look that I almost fell for, and when I opened my mouth to speak, my phone rang ruining the entire moment.
“Hello,” I said over the phone immediately I tapped the green button.
“Hey, I’m here and not seeing you,” Micah said over the phone.
“F**k,” I cursed over the phone immediately I realized that I had made plans with Micah today. We were supposed to have lunch together but I was here getting into the moment with my boss, and husband I guess.
“I’m so sorry,” I said truthfully even though I knew I had completely forgotten like I didn’t care at all.
“I’m at a business brunch with colleagues, but I’ll come meet you at the restaurant,” I told him, while trying to steal a glance at Mr. Tristan, well Tristan I guess.
“If you’re busy we could reschedule. No problem,” He was nice as always.
“No, I’m coming. So send me the address please,” I told him, refusing to reschedule.
“Okay, I’ll meet you there,”
“I’ll be there in ten,” I said and hung up.
“I’m sorry for that,” I dropped my phone on the table and apologized to Tristan.
“It’s all good, but it seems like you are about to leave,” He said, more like asking.
“Yes, I made plans with someone and I need to be on my way,” I said and started to organize my bag.
“So you’re leaving now?”
“I could at least drop you there,” He rushed to offer, and I smiled at him.
“Thank you, but I could order an Uber, plus I can’t keep him waiting,” I said tapping on my phone, as I ordered myself a ride.
“It’s a him?” He asked more like a question and stood up the moment I did.
“Thank you for this, but I have to go,” I put my phone into my bag and started to leave.
“Isabel,” he called out struggling between paying the bills as the waiter rushed to him and running after me.
“To this address,” I said to the driver immediately after I saw my Uber. I got into the car before he could reach out to me.
And while I was on the ride, I thought about the moment we were having before the call was interrupted. A moment like that, that may never play out again. I signed looking outside the window and trying to look forward to seeing Micah…
*12 minutes later*
I walked into the small cafe where I saw Micah sitting beside the window. He waved at me with a smile immediately he sighted me and u reciprocated while reaching towards him.
“Hi,” He said..
“Hi,” I responded and we both laughed lightly.
“Have a seat,” He said and pulled out the seat directly opposite his, while I sat down and got comfortable.
“Thank you,” I said to him smiling, while he called out for the waitress who gave us their menu.
“I thought the driver was wrong when he dropped me here,” I told him staring around the place.
“Cause I thought we were eating at a restaurant” I explain further, hoping I didn’t sound rude.
“Yes, that was the plan,” he said calmly.
“But you mentioned having lunch with colleagues, and I presume it was one of those fancy meals,” He and I both smiled at that, and truth be told he wasn’t lying. I was almost full by now, and I could barely eat any meal he was going to buy again.
“So I decided to go for something simple, we could have a burger, or fries and still talk,” He added and I couldn’t agree more.
“Yes, so thoughtful,” I said sweetly.
“Thank you, Micah,” I looked through the menu deciding to order something light, and went on getting a burger.
“So how’s work?” He started off
“It’s fine, and crazy I guess,” I told him truthfully recalling a few things I shouldn’t.
“Well I’m surprised you’re at work, considering yesterday’s,..” He stated, but I could see he wanted to know more about yesterday’s incident.
“What do you mean? Did something happen yesterday that I’m unaware of?” I threw the question back at him.
“Nothing I know off. But I just thought you were sick, so that explains you being at the hospital,” He stated, and I didn’t know if I should be worried or should sigh in relief.
“Oh,” I mouthed and laughed lightly, hoping he wouldn’t notice as I took another bite of my burger.
“Yes, I was at the hospital,” I started, thinking of what time to say and what not to say.
I thought that maybe he knew something already or maybe he didn’t, I couldn’t really tell.
“No, I wasn’t sick,” I started and he looked at me with more questions.
“Then why were you there, cause you were muttering death, and some weird things in your sleep,” He explained.
“I went to see a sick friend and I didn’t want to go home alone since it was late so I called you,” I rambled
“Thank you so much, Micah, for yesterday. Bringing me home and putting me to bed. I’m so grateful I wasn’t alone, and it all thanks to you,” I rushed my words, but everything I said was true. I was grateful to him, I didn’t feel all alone at that moment cause he came.
“I’ll do it all over again,” he smiled at me.
“I’m just a call away Isabella,” he said and bent up, leaning towards me with his hands stretched, when I felt his thumb brush my lips.
“You’ve got a little cream there,” He laughed nervously, while I quickly covered my mouth, feeling shy.
“Oh,” I grabbed a serviette and cleaned my lips while staring at him for his approval to know it was gone.
“Just a little here,” He tapped on his lips, showing it to me, while I tried to clean off.
“Good?” I asked.
“Just let me,” He said and took the serviette from me, and cleaned the spot, when our eyes met briefly and it felt good.
“All done,” He said and sat down smiling at me.
“Thank you,” I said, blushing a little.
“You’re welcome,” he smiled and we both went back to enjoying our snacks while I tried to steal glances at him nervously…
“Good Lord. What is happening?” I thought, having another bite…
