Dawn POV
“You sure you’re alright?” Ethan asked for the tenth time, his voice laced with worries, and k can clearly imagine him with his brows creased, and hands laying nervously on his lap.
I nodded, but I quickly mumbled a “yes” when I realized he was never gonna see me.
“I was scared,” he breathed out. “I thought something happened to you”
But nothing happens to me. I was just frustrated this afternoon after having some conversation with my dear Dad about my wedding with Nicole.
I couldn’t help but think I could get out of here with Ethan’s help.
Of course, I almost got myself into trouble if not for Henry that snatched the phone from me.
My face heated up, blood rushed down to my ears and I bit my lower lip to try as hard not to look at Henry.
Of course, I can feel his gaze on me, as though trying to penetrate through my skull.
“Nothing happened?” I grinned. “Just thought I could get out of here, but thanks to someone, the plan was forfeited”
“Oh, I see.” Ethan chuckled, his deep voice almost having me wetting my pants.
No, it does, for at that precise moment, I felt something discharge into my pants.
Oh, God! How much I miss being with him. How much I miss lying on his wide chest, and how much my whole body craves his touch.
“Then,” I sighed, my voice dropping, “we’re going to meet soon, I presume.”
“Alright…” Ethan chuckled nervously. “is your brother there?”
I glance briefly at Henry who has his lips twisted in a lopsided smirk, his hand still on me, but it’s now darting more quickly between the phone and my head.
“Hmm…” I hummed
“Say Hi’ to him from me.”
“No,”
Henry has heard and he hissed out loud enough for Ethan to hear too.
“I won’t greet someone like you. No, not after he treats my best buddy like an asshole when he’s actually…”
“He says hi too,” I cut through Henry’s word, throwing him a harsh glare over the plate of chicken on my laps
“No….”
“Don’t mind him,” I cut Henry off again, throwing him another glare. “He’s just a bit under the weather.”
Ethan chuckled lightly, “I… ”
It happened so suddenly I don’t know how it did. Ethan’s voice cut off midway, the phone suddenly off my ear and out of my hold, and a strong arm was pressing hard on my neck that I couldn’t almost breathe.
“I…” I tried to mumble, tears flowing down my eyes.
What’s going on? Who’s choking me? No! Who’s so bent on killing me?
“Relax…”
Henry’s voice was faint, as though he was speaking from a distance. “Relax and be yourself.”
Oh yeah! I’ll be myself after I’m being strangled to death by this asshole.
With all the strength I could muster, I wrenched his arms off my neck, my hand hurriedly going over my neck to numb the pain that made me resort to coughing.
“Are you okay? What’s wrong with you, Dawn?”
My eyes widened, and my hand automatically slumped down my chest on hearing the familiar voice.
Alright! I get that the voice was laced with worries and concern, but damn, I wasn’t happy to hear that voice.
Sighing. Now comprehension dawning on me as to why Henry nearly chocked me
I felt a warm hand tightly on my wrist, another rubbing my back up and down like a mother consoling her kids.
I almost cursed myself for thinking this simple action was soothing and endearing.
“Want some water?” Nicole whispered beside me.
Damn! What is he doing here? I mean, it’s fucking damn late.
Shrugging his hand off me, I straightened myself and wiped the little tears off my face.
“You could have knocked.”
I didn’t want to sound offensive or rude, but I just couldn’t help it.
“He did,” Henry hissed beside me. “But you’re too engrossed in that chicken that you didn’t hear anything.”
I felt my face heated up, and I could imagine how flamy read it was going to be.
I hadn’t been engrossed with the chicks, I had been fantasizing about Ethan’s chiseled and broad chest.
I bit my lower lip and let out a nervous grin.
“Hmm, so…”
I didn’t know. Is it alright for Nicole to come to visit me like this? Apart from me hating him here, he’s a remembrance of whatever is going to happen to me in weeks to come.
“I…” Nicole sighed, slowly releasing my wrist. “Can I talk to you?”
Ethan POV
“C’mon! She will be alright!” Nicole snapped.
Looking worn out, his lips quivering and his brow a little out of place.
And damn! Why does he have to be here early in the morning? I was on my way to Dawn’s place when he barged in as though he owns the fucking house.
And fuck him! How could he tell me that Dawn is alright when he’s not there?
No! He was not been there when I was talking to her last night! He did not know what happened
And I’m done listening to whatever shit he’s going to splutter out
“She’s fine. Listen to me.”
Andre sounded desperate but I’m not ready to hear anything he’s got to say.
Fuck him and his explanation.
I took the car key and headed straight for the door, but Andre perched himself firmly upon it.
I smirked, a hand fisted around the key.
“Out of the way!” I gritted out.
“Not before you hear what I want to say.”
“No!” I said flatly.
Does he think I didn’t get enough sleep just to be stopped by him? Does he think I spent my night almost hyperventilating just to be stopped by his stupid explanation?
With a last dark look at Andre, I made up my mind and channeled my fist towards him.
“Henry!” He breathed out.
Fist suspended in midair, I creased my brows.
“Henry?”
“Yes!” He breathed out
I remember asking Dawn I’d Henry was with her and she said yes.
Alright! Of course, whatever has happened, Henry would probably know.
“He called me.”
I rolled my eyes. He could have called me instead, but I shuddered to think what he’ll sound like on phone with me.
He didn’t like me just because of his friends. Oh well! He proved that yesterday. But he loves his sister so much that he’s willing to put up with me.
Ugh! I mean, a guy in his right sense would have done that if he sees his woman with someone else.
My woman… I fucking love how that sound!
“He said Nicole visited.”
“Nicole visited?!” I growled, for a moment, forgetting whatever I was going to do some minutes ago. “For what?”
“I don’t know,” Andre shrugged.
He doesn’t know?
“Henry had to snatch the phone away from her when she won’t budge even after several knocks from Nicole.”
My face heated up. I know, she was on a call with me yesterday, and I can relate to that.
I grimaced thinking about the priceless expression on Nicole’s face if he’s known I was talking to Dawn.
“I bet he’d want to die.”
“What?” Andre mumbled, looking nonplus.
“Nothing,” I grinned. “I just wanna see her.”
“I…”
My phone made a shrill sound and I quickly fetched it out of my pocket, hissing in indignation.
“What!” I hissed.
My heart slapped hard against its ribcage, and my lips quivered as I glued my eyes, transfixed on the message on my phone.
“What is it?” Andre mumbled, but I have no strength left in me to answer that question.
He snatched the phone away from me.
“Oh shit!” He cursed. “This is not true, is it?”
“I wish it’s not,” I sighed. The message swimming right in front of me, replaying every damn word before me.
*Nicole visited yesterday, he wants me to attend the wedding tomorrow with him. Dad agreed!*
