Chapter 36

Ethan’s POV
Dawn bit her lower lip, her hand clasped together as she curled herself up on the sofa.
Getting her out of there was not easy. I had to pass through many securities that were trying to stop us. And of course, I’d do anything for my kitten.
But then, I am also too shocked and petrified that Dawn is my brother’s betrothed. Even if not more than her
I clenched my fist, teeth gritted together as I stared at Dawn who stared down in fear.
I want to console her, tell her that everything is going to be fine, but I’m not sure if that’s the right thing to do or say.
What’s going to be fine? That she’s Nicole’s betrothed? And Nicole that I’ve seen staring at my kitten with those lust-filled eyes.
Over my dead body will I ever let those two get married.
No! Dawn is mine… Mine alone.
Sighing, I sat across Dawn on the next sofa.
“Dawn…”
“It’s not my fault!” She almost snapped. Her misty eyes settled on me.
She looked scared and at the same time angry. Mad at me?
I get that she’s scared of her Dad, but why would she be mad at me?
“You didn’t ask me anything about that, did you?” She breathed out, her chest rising and falling beneath that gown she wore.
Only if I had known. Maybe… just maybe… if I had known sooner, I’ll never have attended that stupid introduction and gotten to know this secret.
Kitten shook her head, the tears in her eyes using the chance to sprout out her eyes. “I didn’t know anything about it,” she continued. “I never knew Nicole was my….”
“I’m not blaming you.” I hissed.
Okay! I didn’t want to hear that name again, nor did I want her to complete her sentence.
I walked up to her, crouching before her, and held her hand in mine.
Kitten flinched as my hand made contact with her, a low gasp escaped her lips. “I didn’t…”
“I know,” I mouthed, gliding my finger over the back of her palm. “It’s not your fault.”
“You… you’re not mad at me?” She sniffed.
Mad at her? And why should I? She was right that I didn’t ask anything about her, and nor did I make a background check on her.
Everything is my fault! And of course, she doesn’t seem to know about her to be husband.
Flying my head up, I brought my hand up to wipe her tears that won’t stop falling.
“I hate this….” I mumbled. “Crying doesn’t suit you, kitten.”
“Ethan…” She sniffed.
“What?” I frowned.
Dawn grabbed my hand, holding it tightly as though she was afraid to let go. She leveled her gaze with mine and bit her lower lip for some seconds before she sniffed again.
“Kitten…?”
“Help me,” she quivered
I creased my brows, confusion latched on my face as I stared at her scary expression.
“What…?”
“I do not….” Vehemently, she shook her head. Her tears are now pouring in beads. “I truly do not want to get married. No! I don’t want to”
I can sound the urgency in her voice, the fear in her face, and the reluctance in her body.
Hey! That’s a must. She’s not getting married, at least, not to my brother.
“You have to,” she sniffed. “Help me, please.”
I can only open my mouth when the door bursts open, stopping me from completing my sentence.
I mentally cussed, ready to lash out at whoever cut me off.
Whirling around, my gaze met with a familiar glare of a pair of midnight black eyes.
Kitten gasped, grasping the hem of my suit.
“No…”
“And you have some explaining to do, Mr. Ethan Miller,” Grandpa said lowly, but I’ve learned to fear his low voice rather than the high pitched one.
“Why are you with my fiancee?” Nicole growled.
Fiancee my feet.
I let out a dry chuckle, biting my tongue to let out the cuss that’s just at the tip of my tongue.
Nicole and I did not get along pretty well before, and I’m here hoping everything won’t turn completely sour between us because of Dawn.
Well… because I’m not the one who will be giving up.
“Your finance?” I scoffed. “I’m not getting you, Cole.”
Dancing my eyes through the unwelcome visitors in my house, I let out a sigh of relief when I did not see Dawn’s father.
Well…. this case won’t be so hard with her father not here.
“Tell me why you’re with her, Ethan!” Grandpa finally growled.
Kitten squeaked behind me and I flinched.
If grandpa was looking angry before, then it’s nothing to what his face held now.
If a glare could kill, then I’d be 10ft underground now.
With his lips permed together, his eyes shooting lava beams, and his body shaking in fury as he glared at me.
“I’ve done nothing wrong,” I shrugged. “What’s it…”
“Don’t you think we can sit and talk this out?” Andre chirped in, edging closer.
He cast me a white glare and mouthed something that sounded like ‘, be careful ‘
Be careful? What have I done wrong?
“No,” kitten’s tiny voice said behind me. “Can’t we just forget this, Nicole? I do not want to get married.”
“You do not want to get married or you don’t want to marry me?” Nicole spat, glaring at Dawn.
Protectively, my hand snaked around her waist, pulling her closer to bury her head on my chest.
“I won’t have you shouting at her, Cole.” I frowned. “You might want to caution yourself.”
“Caution me?” He chuckled.
Running a frustrated hand through his hair, Nicole huffed. “She’s my fiancee, Ethan.”
“The same one who doesn’t want to marry you? ” I smirked. “Get rid of that mentality, Cole. Why don’t you focus on acquiring the company rather than ranting here.”
“Ethan… ” Andre whisper yelled.
Nicole let out another dry chuckle. Edging closer, he leaned closer to me with his angry eyes leveled on mine. “I do not care about the damn company, Ethan. Well not anymore.” He gritted out. “Just wait, I’ll come back for her soon.”
Over my dead body.
“Wait for me, pretty, I’m coming back for you.”
