Chapter 48:
I jumped ahead, my white fur shining in the moonlight as I led the attack on Ryder’s troops. The exciting feeling of fighting filled me; my wolf shapes were strong and quick as I ran across the field. From the side of my eye, I saw Xander beside me, his dark fur standing out against my white one. We moved in perfect synchronization, years of fighting side by side evident in our fluid motions.
In front of us, Ryder lifted his hands, with dark energy around his fingers. The sight made me shiver, but I kept going, determined to finish this for good. As we got closer to Ryder, a pack of evil creatures rushed towards us. The fight started right away and was very rough.
I jumped into the fight, my teeth biting as I took down a deformed vampire. The creature’s unusual strength couldn’t beat my determination, and I felt a satisfaction as my teeth grabbed its throat. With a strong shake of my head, I finished the vampire and moved to the next enemy.
Close by, Xander fought a pack of corrupted werewolves. His claws cut through the air with deadly accuracy, and I admired his skill even as I concentrated on my battles. We had trained together for a long time, so I could predict his moves, and together we made a strong team.
From somewhere behind me, I heard Aiden’s voice rising above the noise of the battle. The air shimmered as he cast protective spells, creating magical barriers around our allies. I silently thanked him for his support, knowing his magic would help keep our pack safe.
A maniacal laugh cut through the chaos, and I turned to see Ryder sending bolts of dark energy across the battlefield. His eyes sparkled with evil delight while he caused chaos among our troops. Seeing him made me furious, and I realized I needed to stop his wild actions.
I quickly moved to the side when a burst of power burned the ground where I had just been. The sharp smell of burning soil filled my nose, reminding me of how close I had been to getting hit. I couldn’t take any risks this fight was too important.
The pack howls grew louder in the distance, and my heart lifted when I knew what it was. More allied packs had arrived, adding their strength to our own. I threw back my head and let out a howl of my own, rallying my troops as we pushed back against Ryder’s army with renewed vigor.
Ryder’s eyes squinted as he stared at me, and I noticed he was chanting. The hair on my neck stood on end as I sensed the rush of evil magic. The ground under my feet started shaking and breaking apart. Instinct kicked in, and I jumped away right before a deep crack appeared where I had been.
Xander hurried over to me, his eyes showing worry as he looked me over for any wounds. I quickly nodded at him, quietly letting him know that I was okay. There was no time for words we had to keep fighting. I turned back to face Ryder, determination flooding through me.
As Ryder’s chanting got louder, I felt a weird feeling growing inside me. It was like my magic was reacting to the danger, rising to face Ryder’s dark power. I welcomed the feeling, allowing it to move through my body. To my surprise, I saw my white fur start to shine with a gentle, silver light.
Ryder and I stared at each other from opposite sides of the battlefield, both of us getting ready for a face-off. I gathered my strength, prepared to run forward when suddenly, the ground shook from a huge explosion. The blast knocked everyone off balance, and a bright light filled my eyes. I blinked a lot, trying to see again, but for a while, all I could see was white.
As my sight gradually came back, I assessed the situation. The explosion had paused the fighting for a moment, and I used this time to catch my breath. My mind was busy, trying to figure out what had happened and how to turn this unexpected event to our benefit.
I looked around and felt better when I saw Xander nearby, shaking his head, and it seemed like he was okay. Aiden was picking himself up off the ground, his magical barriers flickering as he re-established them. Our allies seemed disoriented but largely intact.
Ryder, I noticed with a mix of frustration and relief, appeared to have been caught off guard by the explosion as well. He was sprawled on the ground, his dark energy dissipated for the moment. But I knew it wouldn’t last long we had to act fast.
I let out a sharp bark, calling my pack to attention. As they turned to me, I used our pack bound to communicate my intentions. We would use this confusion to our advantage, pressing our attack while Ryder and his forces were still recovering.
With a growl, I launched myself back into the fight, my pack following close behind. The shimmering light around my fur hadn’t gone away, and I felt more powerful than ever. When we fought the enemy again, I could tell that the fight was starting to go our way.
But Ryder wasn’t defeated yet. As I fought my way towards him, I saw him struggling to his feet, his eyes burning with hatred. He began another chant, and I felt the dark energy building once more.
I pushed harder, desperate to reach him before he could unleash whatever terrible magic he was preparing. Xander appeared at my side, matching my pace as we charged forward. Together, we would end this for our pack, and for the future of our world.
As we approached Ryder, I noticed a hint of fear in his eyes. He understood we were coming to get him, and for the first time, I thought we might succeed in this battle. With a sudden increase in speed, I jumped at him, my mouth open and ready to attack.
However, right before I could reach him, another explosion shook the battlefield. This one was even more powerful than the last, and I ended up being pushed backward. Everything spun chaotically as I soared through the air, unable to halt my fall.
BAM! I slammed into the ground with force, leaving me breathless. For a few moments, I lay there, completely shocked, gasping for air. I felt a little lost and a bit puzzled, and I was struggling to breathe. The sounds of the fight seemed distant and quiet, like I was underwater.
Gently and with difficulty, I pushed myself up to stand. My eyesight was blurry, and I shook my head to try to fix it. When everything became clear again, I was shocked to see that the explosion had changed how the battlefield looked.
Before, there was a clear difference between our team and Ryder’s, but now everything was mixed up. Both friends and enemies were spread out everywhere, with many of them not moving on the ground. The air was full of dust and a strong smell of bad magic.
I looked around desperately for Xander and Aiden, feeling very scared. Had they been caught in the blast? Were they hurt? I couldn’t see them anywhere, and panic began to set in.
A low, menacing laugh cut through the haze, and I whirled to see Ryder standing amidst the destruction. He seemed unharmed, his dark energy swirling around him more powerfully than ever. When our eyes met, I saw victory in his look, and I felt a chill in my veins.
This wasn’t finished not even close. But as I stood there, beaten and by myself, I understood that the fight had become very risky. We had not realized how strong Ryder was, and now we were suffering for it.
I took a deep breath, calming myself. I am the white wolf, and my pack needed me more than ever. I couldn’t let fear or sadness take over. With a low growl, I gathered my energy, ready to handle whatever was coming.
