CHAPTER 82
LILY’S POV
~ “Lily wait…” He said. “I’m not going to stop you but we need to act carefully. I think there are security cameras inside.”
“You’re not listening, Noah,” I replied, my mind already made up. “I don’t care…” ~
“Fine,” Noah exhaled heavily, realizing there was no stopping me. “Do what you have to do, but for the love of God, DON’T KILL HIM. I’ll stay out here and keep watch in case security or the officer from the station guarding his room shows up. I wonder where he disappeared off to. But if I sense anything going wrong, I’m coming in. No arguments.”
I nodded and he let me go. Clutching the Taser and small hammer tightly in my hands, I quietly made my way into the room.
Upon entering, I saw a nurse injecting a syringe of medication into the IV line of the taxi driver, who lay motionless on the bed with an oxygen mask covering his pale face and other wires from his body hooked to different medical machines.
In his current state, he looked like he was in no position to talk. I didn’t know his condition was this serious but I’ll still carry on with my intentions. With my kids relying heavily on me to find them and bring them home wherever they are now, it was too late to back away. And I thought Noah mentioned he was responding to treatment and will be discharged soon so what gives?
The nurse’s presence made me colour fiercely with embarrassment. If she sees me with these weapons, she might realize my intentions for visiting him weren’t good and might call the security. She was so concentrated on what she was doing that I didn’t think she noticed me enter. I tried to sneak out immediately and wait till she was done to come in again but I noticed something that stopped me, my brows furrowing deeply.
Suddenly, the man began to garble under his oxygen mask, his sound muffled and strained like one drowning underwater. He took very deep breaths that made his chest rise and fall violently, each one he took seeming like his last. At that moment, it hit me that whatever this nurse was injecting him with was killing him. Yet, she continued and even took out another syringe to inject another dose, not caring about the effects it was having on him.
“Hey! Hey!! Hey!!!…” Agitated, I started calling for her attention but she didn’t bother to spare me a glance, acting like no one else was in the room.
Her disregard made rage fill me. I pulled her by the shoulder to stop her and make her face me so I could see her face clearly. Her hair was completely packed away into a scarf, her face covered with a surgical mask and a large pair of clear glasses shielded her eyes, making it difficult for me to make out her face. Maybe she was a fake nurse posing as a real one and the hospital management didn’t notice before letting her in.
In a swift and ferocious motion, she turned and stabbed me in the side of the neck with that syringe. Before I could react, she pressed the plunger, injecting me with whatever remaining fluid was inside. The sudden attack caught me off guard, throwing me off balance as I staggered backwards. Seizing that opportunity, she rushed towards the door to escape.
At that moment, it dawned on me that whoever this woman was, she was part of the plot against me. Whoever she was working for was undoubtedly the one behind all the attacks I suffered, and sent her to finish off this man, realizing that I’d be coming to question him. If that was the case, then this bitch was the key to finding my kids and learning who it was that wanted me dead so badly. There was no way I’d let her out of my sight.
Clenching my teeth, I pulled out the syringe from my neck and tossed it across the room. An evil smirk curved my lips on seeing she had been struggling with the door for some time now, unable to open it and escape. She didn’t realize I made Noah lock it from outside before coming in to buy me some time.
With all that banging, he must have noticed something was wrong unless he wasn’t there anymore. What could have happened to him? I just hoped his life wasn’t in danger.
Doing my best not to think too much about that, I rushed towards the bitch. I yanked her scarf off, revealing a flush of hair that seemed somewhat familiar. She tried to resist but I smashed her head against the door and jammed the Taser in my other hand into the side of her neck, releasing a shock that made her scream and convulse before collapsing to the ground.
Due to her being stunned and disoriented from the shock, I was able to hold her down.
“Noah…! Noah…!!” I shouted desperately as I dragged the bitch’s body away from the door, hoping Noah was still here and hadn’t left me alone in all this.
Fortunately, he was still there. It didn’t take longer than fifteen seconds for him to barge in. I knew he’d be there for me. I knew he wouldn’t leave me alone in all this.
“Hurry and put the weapons away, the officer is….” He said in alarm but his voice cut off on seeing the half-unconscious body I was pulling towards the corner of the room. He glanced at the man lying on the bed before returning his gaze to me.
“Lily…what’s happening…what did you do to that nurse?…” He asked, looking at me as if I had something very terrible.
“She is a fake nurse. She was trying to kill him by injecting some unknown substance into his IV tube when I came in. I strongly believe she’s working with the person who took my kids and has been trying to kill me all this time,” I said as I aggressively yanked off her surgical mask from behind, revealing her face to Noah.
Suddenly, the alarms of the medical machines hooked to the taxi driver set off, catching my attention, signalling a change in his condition that obviously wasn’t good.
“Noah, we need to get a doctor in here unless he’s going to die…”
However, Noah’s attention was still focused on the face of the fake nurse I just revealed, his mouth dropped open in shock.
“Is that who I think it is?…” He said the shock he felt making his words catch in his throat and trail off.
“What?…” My brows squished together in confusion as I lowered my head to take a look when I suddenly felt an intense wave of dizziness hit me like a heavy fog.
I staggered backwards, my head as heavy as a block and my vision blurring as I couldn’t make out Noah’s image and every other thing around me. I clutched at the side of my neck, realizing that whatever this bitch had injected me with was starting to take effect.
I felt strength quickly drain from my body. Unable to fight it, I crumpled to the floor, unconscious. The last thing I saw was Noah rushing toward me, his voice a distant, muffled echo in my head as my eyes fluttered shut.
