Lucy’s POV
I had rushed to a bathroom to clean up, but no matter what I did, the stains refused to remove. The more I tried, the worse it seeed to get amd at one point, I just simply got tired of it all.
“This is useless,” I said underneath my breath. I had chosen the worst day to wear something other than black. The wine, which had looked mostly clear initially, had turned into an ugly yellow colour that slightly resembled vomit.
I would simply have to go back to my room and get a new dress, because there was no way I would carry around something looking so dreadful.
I went to the door of the bathroom to leave, but it didn’t budge. At first, I thought it was just a fluke and that it was just stuck on something, but the more I tried to open it, the more it dawned on me that I was trapped and that there was nothing pulling would do to get it open.
“Hello?” I called out, hoping to get someone’s attention as soon as possible. “Is anyone there?”
No response. I pulled at the doorknob again. It didn’t budge.
That’s when it dawned on me what had likely happened. Anabella had followed me to the bathroom, and told me that she would get me rags to try and clean up. But I hadn’t seen her actually follow me inside. She just led me here and vanished.
Vanished . . .
Which meant that the triplets were probably still in her company.
Her words from that time rushed through my mind. How she seemed so hellbent on getting the triplets in her grasp. She didn’t seem to care for any consequences that could occur.
“No. No. No.” I said, pulling harder against the door. I didn’t want to use me strength to get myself out initially, but with the way things seemed, I was going to have to completely break down the doorknob if I wanted the chance to get to the triplets on time.
Calling on the strength of my inner wolf, I took a deep breath as power flooded through my veins. When my system felt completely imbued with lycanthropy, I pulled at the doorknob with all the power I could muster, groaning with the effort it took.
The doorknob got broken on the first pull, so I had to switch to hitting it with my fist over and over again. I didn’t care of people heard me at this point. It was already strange enough that I had been in the bathroom for so long without anyone else coming to meet me.
After two more tries, I finally damaged the door enough for the lock to weaken and just fall apart. The door creaked open at last, granting me freedom. Without waiting for another second to pass, I rushed out of the bathroom, retracing my steps back to where I had left Shaun.
Now, I felt bad for telling him to stay back when he offered to follow me to get cleaned up. If I had allowed him, maybe I wouldn’t have been going out if my mind with panic.
What was worse, I didn’t even know how Anabella was going to execute her plans, and that was what made things worse. I had zero idea about the devices she would employ, or the things she was gonna to say or do to thw triplets
I tried to clear my mind of all the haphazard thoughts so that I could focus better. If I spent too much time thinking about what could have been happening, then I wouldn’t have been focused enough on the task at hand, which was about averting crisis before it struck.
When I got to the table we had sat, I was a little surprised to find Seth and Shaun there.
As I stopped to catch my breath, Shaun looked up at me, worried. “What’s wrong?”
“I-I thought . . .” I said, looking between both brothers as I tried to come up with something to say. The seat where Scott has been sitting was now empty. “Where’s Scott?”
“I think you need to sit down first,” said Seth calmly, although even his own eyes betrayed some worry. “Catch your breath.”
“No. I can’t. Where’s Scott, please?”
“What’s the matter, Lucy? He went somewhere with Anabella. She started crying all of a sudden and he took her out to get some fresh air,” said Shaun, taking my hand in his. “Please, tell me what’s wrong.”
I shook my head. I couldn’t rest until I could determine that Scott was safe. “Where did they pass?”
“I’m not answering any more questions until you tell me what’s wrong.”
“Shaun! There’s no time! Anabella isn’t who you think she is!”
He looked a little taken aback. “Is that what this is about? Lucy. I told you that there’s nothing to worry about-”
“Please, Shaun. I just need to make sure he’s okay.”
“Wait, what’s going on?” Seth asked.
I groaned and started rushing towards the nearest exit I could find. Talking was only going to waste my time. Time that I didn’t have. If I could just make sure that Scott was fine, then I would be able to get some rest.
On getting outside, all I could find were a few people either sitting outside or some heading away from the hall, but nonw of them looked like Scott or Anabella.
I heard footsteps approach me, and I turned around to see Shaun walking up to me. He held my elbow. “Lucy, stop this. Anabella is the daughter of the former Luna. We’ve known her since we were children.”
I pulled my arm away. “I don’t care about that-” I stopped abruptly when I remembered where I had seen Anabella and her friend discussing the other day.
I flipped around to run in that direction, but Shaun didn’t let me. As I tried to push him away, a scream cut through the air.
And it was followed by a blood-curdling roar.
