Kamrynn’s POV
After a lot of thought, I knew there was only one person I could trust with the problem of my wolf. Rmonica. But in order to seek her help, I would have to unravel myself completely, reveal the truth about my past. Every dark, disgusting detail.
I sat across from her in the quiet sitting room, the comforting aroma of chamomile tea swirling between us. She gave me her usual warm, encouraging smile, but I felt my heart pounding as I prepared to speak.
“Kamrynn?” Rmonica said softly, tilting her head with concern. “You’ve been quiet. What’s on your mind?”
I stared at my cup, the steam curling like smoke from a fire. “There’s something I need to tell you,” I began, my voice shaking slightly. “Something about my past… and why I became a rogue.”
Her expression softened instantly, concern flickering in her eyes. “Kamrynn, you don’t have to tell me if it’s too painful.”
“No,” I said firmly, wrapping my hands around the mug. “You deserve to know. I want you to understand everything.”
She nodded, giving me her full attention. “I’m listening.”
I stared at the tea, gathering the courage to speak. “His name is Calvin. He’s the father of my babies… and the reason I lost everything.”
Rmonica’s brows furrowed, but she said nothing, waiting for me to continue.
“Calvin is the Alpha of the Obsidian Pack, he was my sister’s mate,” I began, my voice trembling. “But before all of that, he was my best friend. He used to be my best friend and I foolishly fell head over heels for him. He was my entire world until reality crashed hard and… and he turned out to be my twin sister’s mate. Like any decent person, I buried those feelings, wishing them all the happiness in the world. But it all came crashing down when she died.”
“Who died? Your sister?” She asked, shifting closer.
“Yes. Sherelle was pregnant at the time, about five months. We were out together when we suddenly got attacked by a masked person. It all happened so fast and I got knocked out. When I woke up, she was dead and it was the most horrific scene ever. I got blamed for the murder. I was the fall guy, the pariah. Somehow Sherelle’s corpse went missing and the only witness to the scene mysteriously died. That, as you can guess, only made it worse. ”
“Oh my goodness, Kamrynn…” Rmonica reached across the table, placing a hand over mine.
“He swore to punish me for as long as I lived,” I whispered bitterly, the memories rushing back like a storm. “And he didn’t fail to do just that. He did such horrible things to me. He… He forced himself on me over and over again because he believed I should replace the child I killed. He made my life unbearable. The physical and mental abuse, the torture, the isolation, the pain… it broke me. He was hellbent on killing me. I only gained the will to fight back after I found out I was pregnant. I lost three pregnancies because of his callousness, I knew I had to run.”
Tears welled in Rmonica’s eyes as she tightened her grip on my hand. “How could anyone be so cruel? To do such horrible things to another person just because he believed you killed your sister. If he was so sure, why didn’t he hold an official trial to decide a lawful punishment like any respectful Alpha? Besides, you lost a sister just like he lost his mate. You were grieving too. How could he not see that?”
“Hatred blinded him, made it impossible for him to see what was right in front of him. Sherelle was all I had left in the world. I would first die before ever conceiving the thought of harming her but Calvin couldn’t believe that. He saw me as a vicious person, only worthy of suffering.” I replied. “I had to run. I couldn’t stay in that Pack any longer, not for me and not for my children. Thank the goddess for someone as kind as Lysaa. She was a maid and my only friend in the Pack. She was the one who helped me escape. I truly hope with all my heart that she’s safe. I know first hand how ruthless Calvin can be.”
Rmonica’s lips pressed into a thin line, her eyes blazing with anger. “He’s a monster. To treat his own sister in-law like that… It doesn’t matter what he thought you did, that is just too cruel. And to make you lose three children… I swear, if I ever meet him-”
“Don’t waste your anger on him,” I said, shaking my head. “It’s not worth it.”
Rmonica inhaled deeply, composing herself. “You’ve been through so much, Kamrynn. And yet, you’re still standing. You’re incredible.”
Her words brought a faint smile to my face. “Thank you. But there’s more. Calvin… he poisoned me with Wolfsbane. Over and over until I lost Aryna, my wolf.”
Rmonica’s gasp was sharp. “Your wolf? Kamrynn, that’s-”
“Unforgivable,” I finished, trying desperately to hold back the tears that were quickly forming. “I haven’t felt her in over a year. It’s like a part of me is missing.”
Rmonica shook her head, tears glistening on her cheeks. “I’m so sorry, Kamrynn. Truly. You’ve suffered more than anyone should. I can’t believe everything you’ve been through.”
I took a shaky breath, steeling myself. “I told you all this because I need your help, Rmonica. I want Aryna back. I want to feel whole again.”
She leaned forward, her hands gripping mine tightly. “Then we’ll get her back. I don’t know much about spiritual healers, but I’ll talk to the Alpha. If there’s anyone in the Pack who can help, he’ll know.”
Her determination sparked something warm in my chest, and for a moment, the weight of my past didn’t feel so suffocating. “Thank you,” I whispered, overwhelmed by her kindness.
She squeezed my hand. “You’re not alone in this, Kamrynn. We’ll figure it out together.”
Before I could respond, the door swung open with a loud bang, startling us both. A tall young man strolled in, his grin wide and mischievous. His energy filled the room instantly, throwing the quiet moment into chaos.
