CHAPTER 44- KARMA

Book:Divorced In Love Published:2025-2-8

AUTHOR’S POV
Sofia’s chest heaved as she watched Gil discard the c**dom into the trash can.
She flushed scarlet remembering the wonderful hour in bed with him.
She had never had a one-night stand before. She never expected it to be so exhilarating and especially not with the man of her dreams.
Although he didn’t look as ripped or affluent as her colleagues described him to be, she was drawn to him. Even more than she expected.
Gil turned to her with a charming smirk, his hair tousled as he climbed on the bed and lay next to her.
He’d had s! x with many women and never stayed an extra minute more but something about Sofia piqued his interest.
He was bewildered how a shy little woman like her would be so dominant on the bed. He had always been the one to be on top but with her, it was different. He tried but she kept fighting for dominance. And boy, she got it and it drove him wild.
Sofia smiled wearily at him. Her eyes scrutinized over his taut body. Her gaze drifted to the tattoo on his waistline, but her alcohol-hazed vision blurred the writing.
Reaching out to touch it, Gil grasped her hand, his voice low and husky.
“Don’t.”
Obediently, Sofia withdrew her hand, her dreamy eyes locked on his. “How often do you have one-night stands?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Gil’s hand was still holding hers. ” Well, would you like to know?” he teased.
” Mhm.” She bit her sensuous lips.
Gil swallowed hard. How was he still getting turned on?
He groaned inwardly as his fingers raised to her lips on its own accord and pressed in between her lips, stopping her from biting it. Better.
He withdrew his hand and wavered a response, ” Very often.”
” Like once a week often?”
Gil smirked, “Every day aside from Saturdays and Sundays.”
” Oh.”
” Oh?” She didn’t seem surprised, why?
” Isn’t that how the life of the elites is? You could get whatever you want. However, you’d like it. ” A hint of jealousy tinged in her voice.
Gil wondered what could have besmirched her idea of the rich or was it something she had heard about ‘Alfred’s son’? Well, she must have heard wrong because Gabriel was nothing like him.
Gabriel respects women almost to a very unhealthy point. And Gil wasn’t an elite. He’d lost all he had to a woman who claimed to love him.
Fixing his attention back on her, Gil inquired. ” And what makes you think that?”
” I’ve known a lot of rich people that always get away with what they want. Plus, the ladies at work talk about you a lot.” She said with a tinge of red on her cheeks.
A small flirtatious smile played by the corner of Gil’s lips. ” What else did they say about me?”
Sofia chuckled softly and shook her head, trying to comprehend if this was real.
Gil chuckled at her shyness and insisted. ” Tell me.”
” Okay… um… I heard you have a body more ripped than DywaneJohnson.”
Gil burst into laughter making Sofia flush in embarrassment. Well, that was the exaggeration of the year.
Gil swallowed his laughter and edged on. ” What else?”
” You… you have a pe**s the length of Sultan Kosen’s feet.” Sofia laughed alongside Gil.
God, how the hell did those ladies think of a tall story this extreme?
” Maybe not that long but it is long enough.” He winked at Sofia making her face even more red. You’d think she’d stayed under the sun for half a day.
” What else?”
Sofia’s face turned rigid and she stared at him with an earnest look.
” Other things that don’t matter. Seeing you, I realized most of the things those women said were lies.”
Gil’s eyes were transfixed on hers. Maybe it was time for him to take her to her home. He’d spent more than enough time talking to her. He shouldn’t be in the first place. But, he couldn’t gather the strength to peel his eyes off her.
” Please stop.” Gil drew out in a croaky voice.
Sofia swallowed softly and shifted closer to him, her hands cupped his cheek as she stared at him with glitter in her eyes. He was so handsome, he didn’t look like the average elite but she was comfortable with that.
She wanted more than just this one night with him. She had been so bereft all these years, she needed someone.
As she reached out to kiss him, his senses came back like a shockwave, and he jumped out of the bed.
What the hell was that? Why did he let his emotions get the best of him?
He shook his head. No, not emotions; he didn’t do emotions; it was all pity and lust. Nothing else.
Gil grabbed his clothes, giving her a coup d’il, and looked away. He ordered, “Put on your clothes; I’ll take you home.”
Gabriel would kill him when he found out he f**ked Sydney’s friend in his home. But, Gabriel hardly stayed in his mansion, Gil felt a bit of relief.
Sofia got out of the bed, covering her body with the duvet. ” Um… do I have to leave?”
“Yes, you do. Put on your clothes.” Gil forced his pants on.
Sofia stared at him unyieldingly.
When Gil noticed she wasn’t putting on her clothes, he turned to her. His gaze wilted seeing the look of hurt on her face.
” Is this about your wife’s death? I heard about it too, I’m sorry but-”
He cut her off sharply. ” It’s not that um…”
” Sofia.” She added. So, he didn’t even remember her name?
Gil’s shoulder slumped in guilt. Who sleeps with a girl and doesn’t know her name?
” I um… Sofia, whatever happened between us, it’s only for a night-”
” It doesn’t have to be.”
” That’s how it has been, and it always will be. You’d get over it when you wake up tomorrow, it’s just s! x.” He said emotionlessly and headed for the coat rack.
Just s! x? Who postulated that stupid theory? Sofia wondered unnerved. How could he say that?
Sofia walked to him and grabbed his coat before he could. His eyes narrowed at her.
She said noncompliantly, “I want more than that.”
“You don’t know what you want; you’ve just met me.” He tried to grab his coat from her, but she hid it behind her.
“I do know what I want. Meeting you now has nothing to do with what I feel. I’ve had a crush on you for a very long time, and seeing you just made my feelings explode.”
No, she didn’t have a crush on him. She had a crush on Gabriel, and how the hell did she have a crush on someone she had never seen before?
Gil scoffed and reached for his coat in her grip, but she played stubbornly. Before they could realize what was happening, Sofia’s hand was pinned above her head on the wall, with Gil’s body pressed against hers and the duvet and coat on the floor.
Sofia gasped breathlessly, her body hard with need as she gazed into Gil’s dark orbs.
He was as hard as she was; his body burned for another round of pleasure. What was wrong with him? He’d never slept with a woman twice.
He groaned.
Sleeping with her again wouldn’t change anything. It would still be a one-night stand, after all; it was still the same night. But still-
“Damn it!” Gil grabbed her by her a** and pulled her up to his body.
Her legs encircled his waist, and her hands were around his neck as she kissed him fiercely.
He smashed her against the wall and devoured her mouth, making sure to taste every bit of her innocence. It was nothing like he’d tasted before.
” It’s your turn to play pawn.” He mumbled on her lips. When she made a sound of defiance, he bit her lips gently, making her gasp.
He smirked and put a little distance between them, trying to catch his breath. “Your boyfriend was a fool to think of soccer while having s! x with you.”
Sofia smiled softly. ” Tell me about it.”
Gil chuckled and drew her into another fiery kiss. He took her to the bed and placed her on it and took off his clothes before putting on a c**dom. He climbed on top of her, licked up her neck to her ear, and then whispered seductively.
” My turn.”
_______________________
The next day, Avery sat in her office exasperatedly, as a parent barked at her.
” You should expel that errant child from this esteemed school, if anything happens to my son, I’ll make sure I sue you and this school!” Mrs. Good Luck snarled and shot up from the chair. She grabbed her son, who had a swollen cheek, and stormed out of Avery’s office.
Avery gritted her teeth and stuck out her middle finger as the door shut.
“Stupid parents thinking they can do anything they like and even stupider kids for being such a blood-sucking pest.” She grumbled frustratedly.
Ethan had been causing hell loads of nuisance in the school and she couldn’t deny she was a little scared of that kid. His words were worse than a scorpion sting.
She couldn’t imagine herself raising a kid. They were weapons fashioned against humanity.
Her hateful eyes loomed over her stomach. If she didn’t have to be so desperate to go into Gavin’s home, she’d have aborted the child the very day she knew she was pregnant.
Her phone rang, throwing her out of her wicked thoughts. She glanced at it.
Unknown caller?
” It better not be you, Aaron.” She grumbled to herself and picked up the call.
” What is it?” She snapped reckoning it was Aaron.
She’d barred his number when he wouldn’t stop calling her, despite that, he kept on calling her with other phone numbers.
A husky British voice spoke, ” Hello, Miss White.”
Avery’s brows narrowed at the familiar voice. She couldn’t pinpoint who owned the voice.
” Who’s this?”
” That isn’t important for now.”
Avery rolled her eyes, ” I’m ending the call.”
The voice turned callous. ” Cut the call and I’ll make sure everyone knows the real father of that child.”
Avery’s eyes popped and she jerked up from her office chair. Who was this person, and how did they know the baby wasn’t Gavin’s?
Maybe Sydney sent someone to get the truth out of her.
She stood rigid and uttered in a venomous tone, ” I have no idea what you are talking about, you should go do something proactive with your life rather than make rubbish phone calls.”
” Okay, since you may have forgotten, I’d remind you.”
The call ended, and after a few seconds, Avery’s phone dinged.
With her heart racing, Avery clicked the notification.
Her eyes widened, looking at the photo of the original paternity test, which stated the father belonged to Aaron, and there was a video of her and Aaron making love in Aaron’s bedroom.
Her heart galloped when her phone began to ring again. She stared at it like it was a ticking bomb. How did this happen? No, her years of planning to ruin Gavin and Sydney cannot just go to shreds.
Avery picked up the call and said quickly, ” I’ll pay you whatever amount you want-”
” Don’t make promises you can’t keep. You and I know you have nothing monetary to offer. ”
Avery lingered on what he had said for a second until it poured down on her. That lumberjack! Gabriel!
She clutched the phone and said vehemently, ” You wouldn’t dare expose me-‘
” Don’t underestimate me.”
” Look, we can work things out together. Sydney is a piece of shit; you won’t benefit from loving her. She can never love you back, she would continue loving her husband even if he holds a knife to her throat. Listen to me-”
” If you say another f**king word, I promise, I’ll send your s! x video to the world. Maybe you’d get enough money from it to fix whatever shit is wrong with you.” Gabriel snapped, breathing loudly.
” Now listen to me, if you don’t want me to expose you to Gavin, you’ll do as I say. Get Sydney to sign the divorce papers; I don’t care how you do it, but don’t do anything to harm her.” Gabriel said intone.
Nonplussed, Avery stifled a chuckle. Making Sydney sign the divorce papers would already cause enough harm to her. Well, it didn’t bother Avery.
It was a fair deal.
Avery drew a breath and uttered vilely, ” Don’t you dare think of exposing me because if you do, you know she’ll go crawling back to Gavin. ”
Gabriel hesitantly responded, ” Deal?”
” Of course. “
