Alex’s pov:
The Alpha King, who went by the name of Sebastian, was as intimidating as ever, and I almost had trouble breathing under his gaze.
“Where is your mate, Alpha Alexander?” He asked after a moment of silence.
“She and my third in command went to safety, to Alpha Kade’s pack,” I let out without so much as a stutter.
I knew that born healers were coveted. And ever since I realized my beloved Jade was one, I did my best to protect her, and make sure the secret would remain within closed doors.
The secret was however bound to be exposed… and I would like to believe I did a decent job at protecting her and the pack, despite the losses we suffered.
“Why, pray tell, would you send your best asset away?” The Alpha King raised an eyebrow in question.
His poor choice of words would have made me react violently had it been anyone else… But this was the Alpha King we were talking about. He took shit from nobody, and was powerful enough to put an end to the war with merely a few words. Ergo, I tried to keep a cool head about things.
Besides, I realized after thinking his words through, that he didn’t mean any harm, but was rather curious. After all, born healers were indeed great assets to any pack they were born or mated into.
“The truth is that Jade has this resonance that could affect anyone within the pack,” I let out with a small sheepish smile.
“Meaning?” The Alpha King’s right-hand man demanded to know.
“When she lost her father, she couldn’t contain her grief, and we all felt her sorrow as if it were our own,” I drawled, my eyes meeting his without any reserve. “You could imagine how her reaction to losing someone in the war would affect us all.”
“I understand,” the Alpha King let out at once, nodding curtly as he said so. “She’s dangerous.”
“I wouldn’t say so, your highness,” I shook my head negatively, refusing such a poor description of my beloved mate. “She’s just had very little time to train. She only got her wolf at the age of eighteen after all.”
The man chuckled at me, and soon deadpanned, “I want her no harm. Rest assured. I would just like to meet her.”
I hadn’t meant to sound defensive in any way. I thought I was merely explaining things to him from our perspective.
“Sure,” I nodded at him.

Jade’s pov:
Two days went by since we arrived to Alpha Kade’s pack… Two days during which Sherry did her best to be a great host, but I just wasn’t feeling it. My worry for everyone was unparalleled. Admittedly, I was also sad that I couldn’t be of any help to the pack. On the contrary, I had to be sent away.
I was resting in the guest room, just about ready to take a nap when there was a frantic knock on the door.
Fear gripped my heart. Would I be getting bad news? Had the war escalated and reached here? And that would mean that our pack has lost…
I didn’t know what to make of all my doubts and insecurities.
I needed to train. I needed to be more useful the next time such an attack came knocking on our door.
“Yes?” I let out, straightening up in bed.
The door opened to reveal Trevor. His smile was beautiful and infectious. I found myself smiling back at him, even as I wondered what could make him smile so brightly.
“We have just received word that the Alpha King himself put an end to this senseless war,” he beamed.
“Oh?” My eyes bulged at his words. “Oh! Oh my god!” I jumped out of bed. “Are you sure?”
“Positive, Luna Jade,” he nodded at me in earnest.
“When can we go back?” I asked at once, my smile broadening.
“We’ll have to wait for orders from the alpha, Luna Jade,” he said sheepishly, his smile fading away slightly, at the sight of my frown perhaps.
“Oh, I see,” I let out.
I was so happy, words could barely explain it… But I was also slightly disappointed at the last bit. But then again, I could understand their reluctance to send me back to the pack. What if the threat wasn’t totally eliminated after all?
Sherry soon stood by the door, next to Trevor, and said excitedly, “I am so happy to hear that… though I will be sad to see you go.”
I offered her a smile. She had been nothing but good to me, and I needed to thank her properly soon, maybe even send her a gift once I am back home.
Soon, even Alpha Kade was at the entrance of my room, “I see you heard the news?”
I nodded at him, “Yes, thanks to the intervention of the Alpha King, we should be in the clear.”
“That wasn’t quite the news I wanted to relay,” he told me after a beat. With a cryptic smile, he soon added, “Alpha Alexander is coming for you, Luna Jade.”
My heart jumped in my chest, my excitement knowing no bounds.
The words were almost baffling, and yet it was Alpha Kade who had spoken… and although he often spoke in jest, this wasn’t one such a time.
“Are you okay?” Sherry took a few steps towards me as I did my best to tip my head back and avoid the tears.
“I am just so happy,” I choked on the words, my throat clogged with emotion.
“We all are,” she assured me with a smile, and soon she was hugging me. “You can let it out.”
The men retreated and I finally let out a sob. My happiness had for only equal the worry I had been feeling earlier… The couple of news I received were more than I could have ever hoped for today, and I couldn’t be happier.
