40. No Matter What

Jade’s pov:
There was absolutely nothing quite as blissful as waking up in your mate’s arms. Alex had exhausted himself as of late. Nevertheless, the moment I moved ever so slightly to have a better look at his face, he stirred awake.
“Go back to sleep, love,” he grumbled sleepily, his arms tightening around me ever so slightly.
“It’s 5 am,” I told him in a soft tone of voice. “We have training in one hour.”
“Exactly,” he said petulantly, much like a child denied candy would, “One hour to go still.”
“I wanna have a shower first,” I explained before kissing the corner of his mouth.
“Are you seducing me?” He opened one eye to look at me.
“No, you go back to sleep, Alex,” I told him as I caressed his hair lovingly. “You’ve been having a hectic schedule lately.”
“You’re too much of a temptress,” he said, no hint of sleepiness in his voice, as he stretched, and popped his neck joint, before a wicked smile played on his lips, “If I ever were to deny myself your touch, love, you need to understand that something grave is going on.”
I smiled at him and nodded, and we were soon hitting the shower together, only to do everything but shower… but that was to be expected. We were a newly mated pair, and our love for one another was blooming as we discovered and explored our sensuality.
Feeling his length pounding me relentlessly, as I panted and moaned his name repeatedly, I felt my nails shift partly to claws.
“Alex!” I let out in shock, “My nails…”
“Your wolf wants to come out and play,” he said, barely breathless. “Let her.”
“But that will leave scratches,” I argued, pouting at the idea of hurting my mate.
“Let her. If I can’t take a few scratches for my beloved, what kind of mate would that make me?”
I was about to tell him, “a sensible one,” when his thrust hit a particularly sensitive place, and I moaned his name, and came undone, scratching his back, and biting into the mark I had left on him… Alex allowed me to chase new heights, but was far from done.
And thus, began a journey to chase his own climax.
The moment his seed hit the inside of my walls, I followed suit, too far gone to notice anything amiss.
“I am sorry, love. I didn’t mean to…” It was only when Alex apologized, a little bit of a blush settling on his face, that I realized our mistake.
Alex hadn’t had time to put on a condom, and didn’t pull back in time.
“Don’t be sorry,” I told him softly, “We should be okay, safe days and whatnots…”
“I know you don’t wish for a child just yet, love,” he began, his eyes boring into mine, “But promise me that should you become pregnant, you’ll keep it no matter what.”
I grabbed his hand with mine and placed it on my heart before saying in earnest, “No matter what, Alex.”
He nodded at me as a smile broke on his face, and then we were soon cleaning ourselves in haste.

Training was, as usual, more of a challenge everyday… especially for late bloomer little old me.
In human form, I was more than decent, thanks to the years of frustration which had been poured into training and proving my worth. In wolf form, however, I still had trouble staying in control of my speed, and sometimes of my strength too.
Luc and Trevor trained women and regular wolves whereas the warriors had a separate training with Alex.
I somewhat envied the privilege. Oh how I wished I could be among the other group. Not only because then I would get to train under Alex, but also because I wished I could be more of a warrior… like my parents.
“Luna Jade,” Trevor let out softly, his soft admonishment making me blush to my utter and complete dismay. “Your stance needs…”
Before he had the chance to finish rectifying my stance, I had already dealt with it.
“Apologies,” I nodded curtly at him.
“3 seconds is all the enemy needs,” Luc said in a grim tone. “Your focus needs to be top-notch. Your will must have for only equal your skills. Is that understood?”
“Yes, sir!” We responded in unison.
“Naturally, you can’t expect to only have one opponent charging at you,” Trevor went on. “And it’s for this reason that you must be more in tune with your wolf.”
“Understood,” I breathed out, nodding at him.
Trevor flashed me a fond smile before telling me, “Luna Jade, a word please?”
“Sure,” I said before following him away from curious stares and hushed whispers.
“The Alpha wants you to know something of great importance,” the way Trevor said the title instead of the usual Xander made me still, apprehension filling me. “You are not to fight.”
“I beg your pardon?” My eyes bulged and I wondered for a brief moment if I heard right.
“Packs envy us for having you, and if they were to get to you, it would be all over,” he said, explaining things to me calmly.
“Are you saying I can’t be of use? Are you saying I am supposed to sit by and do nothing?” I asked, my eyes narrowed at him, even though I knew he was merely following orders. “Train me seriously so that I won’t be a liability.”
“You have to understand, Luna Jade, that you’re the queen onboard…”
“And the queen protects her king,” I was quick to say, referring to chess.
“It has come to our notice, Luc and I, that the Alpha seems to have poor control around you,” he began sheepishly, his eyes not meeting mine. “And as much as it pains me to say this, we have to keep the pack’s best interest in mind… The Alpha cannot be hindered in this decisive fight.”
“So, I am a nuisance?” Tears sprung up to my eyes, and I had to tip back my head to keep them from falling.
“There seems to be some transference between your two wolves…”
I didn’t let him finish and asked again, “Am I a nuisance?”
Still, not looking me in the eyes, he said, “it would appear so.”
My wolf chose that moment to speak up, The alpha will protect us.
I don’t want to be protected, I shot back. I want to fight alongside him.
“I’ll continue training diligently nonetheless,” I declared after taking a moment to recover from the blow I had just received.
“Luna Jade,” Trevor stopped me from returning to training, “I am sorry I had to be the bearer of such news.”
“How come it wasn’t Alex who told me?” I asked.
Trevor grinned before telling me matter-of-factly, “Luc and I believed that he might falter when confronted with your tears. And Luc and I decided this with rock-paper-scissors.”
I couldn’t help but giggle at that. They had me figured out. Indeed tears could work against Alex, but they were thinking of the pack’s safety, and that was above all.
Despite how hurt I was, I could understand where this was coming from.
