Alex’s pov:
Considering word had already spread to other packs, I knew I needed to officially tell the pack, and also prepare them for what was no doubt coming. If we managed to get enough trustworthy allies, war might be avoided. If not, it would be soon knocking on our doors.
“Trevor,” I called for my third in command via mind-link while looking out the window.
“Yes alpha?” He responded at once.
“Call for a gathering of everyone,” I commanded without delay. “Tonight at 8 pm.”
“When you say everyone…?” He began hesitantly.
“I mean literally everyone, from the elderly to the toddlers,” I confirmed. “Save for the patrollers on duty naturally.”
“Is something wrong, alpha?” He asked at once, and I could sense his dread through the mind-link.
“Not yet, I’d say,” I responded. “But everything considered, I can’t keep the pack in the dark.”
“Ah I see. I will spread the word, alpha,” he then declared, seemingly less tense. “I believe the pack will take it well. Luna Jade is nothing short of a blessing.”
“Let’s hope so.”
Jade was my everything, and if the pack were to not take the news well, I knew we would have a rough patch… but rough patch or not, she was totally worth it.

Jade’s pov:
Alex’s birthday was in a few days, and I was ecstatic to prepare something for the man I called mine. I had been mingling with the kitchen’s omegas more often lately, and we had agreed that I would be the one making him the birthday cake.
I usually didn’t bake much but considering this was for Alex, I was willing to make an exception, and I started to practise too, away from prying eyes.
Luc entered the kitchen when I was least expecting him, and his eyes bulged at the sight of me half covered in flour.
“Are you trying to look like a ghost, Luna Jade?” He asked, tilting his head to the side. “Halloween is still far down the calendar, isn’t it?”
“Ha ha,” I let out sarcastically, to which a chuckle escaped him, and I gave him the stink eye. “I am baking.”
“Oh, are you?” He chuckled again, a smirk soon spreading across his face.
“You should have guessed why already,” I said, pursing my lips. “If one word slips past that mouth of yours, I will butcher you. Moreso, I want you to keep Alex busy.”
“Oh, he’s busy alright,” he said gravely.
I nodded at him, believing his words at once. With everything going on, how could Alex be carefree enough to seek me out during the day? He was too busy making allies.
I sighed, hating my uncommon traits which made me both a blessing and a curse.
“On another note, I was searching for you,” he went on, and I shifted my focus to him once more. “The alpha is holding a big gathering of the pack this evening, at 8 pm. Naturally, you are to be by his side.”
“Oh what for?” I asked, curious at once.
Luc held the forefinger and the middle finger to this temple and said simply, “Open up.”
I understood at once that this wasn’t something he wanted to discuss around the busy omegas. Not yet anyway.
“What’s up?” I let out as I continued to prepare the cupcakes.
“The alpha believes it’s time the pack knows of your gift,” he told me simply.
“Oh,” I let out, unconsciously saying it out loud, too stunned to say anything else.
Alex and I had discussed this, but I didn’t know he was going to announce that I was a born healer so soon. To be honest, I wasn’t quite ready for the whispers and the pointed looks to come back with vengeance, but I trusted Alex enough to know he was doing what was the best for everyone.
“Are you okay, Jade?” He then asked in a concerned tone, still via mind-link. “You’re pale.”
“It’s nothing,” I assured him with a small nod.
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
I trusted Alex and I needed to learn to trust the pack too.
“The pack loves you, Luna Jade,” Luc said in parting. “And I speak for myself when I say I would willingly put my life on the line for you.”
My eyes stung with tears at once. “Thank you,” I managed to say despite the tightness of my throat.
I truly am blessed with good and loyal friends, I thought to myself as I continued baking, whistling while doing so.
