CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT

Book:Rekindling Old Flames Published:2025-2-8

After I get word from my driver that he’s arrived, I make my way outside. The week has gone by so fast. It feels like just yesterday that I found out Beau was still engaged to Hannah. And now I’m on the way to the airport, so I can fly to Louisiana and stop the wedding.
I’ve come up with a plan for how I will help Beau recover his memory. That’s the only good thing that happened this past week. Even though my plan isn’t rock solid, I have hopes it might work.
Once I get outside, I notice everyone’s there to see me off. I kiss Dad, who is against me going to Louisiana, goodbye. We all remember what happened the last time I was there. And even though I assured him nothing like that will happen again, he’s still worried. I can’t blame him. He lost his grandchild, and almost me as well in the process. I’m sure he blames himself to some extent for what happened, despite the fact that he couldn’t have done anything to stop it.
Next, I move to kiss Camila and Axel goodbye before entering the car. I haven’t told them yet about my idea for how to fix their problem. I realized I had to confirm some things first before I did. Hopefully, once I get Beau back, I’ll also be done ironing out the details for that and can tell them.
The drive goes by quickly, and before I know it, the car is stopping in front of a private jet. Stepping out, I walk to the trunk to get my bags. Tamara and Harvey get out of the car beside mine, and I smile and wave. She waves and smiles back.
I hand my bag to one of the crew members as another car arrives. Hannah and Beau step out.
They don’t know it yet, but we’re all traveling to Louisiana together. It was Harvey’s idea. He feels it will be a good place to corner Beau and try to jog his memory. While we’re flying, he won’t be able to run away from me.
I look at Beau, and my heart clenches. I watch his gray eyes widen but his shock quickly fades. He begins to come toward me but stops once his phone starts ringing. He walks away to answer it while Hannah approaches us.
“What the hell is she doing here?” Hannah asks Harvey, scowling.
“She’s with me,” Harvey answers. We had already planned for this reaction.
“I don’t understand,” Hannah says.
“I’m handling the catering for the wedding, and Delilah is one of my staff.”
“One of your staff?” Hannah questions in disbelief.
Harvey shrugs. “Yes.”
“She’s an architect. How the hell is she one of your staff?”
“Yes, technically she’s an architect,” Tamara interrupts. “But as of today, Delilah is also my assistant.”
“Oh my God! You guys can’t be serious.” Hannah laughs dryly.
“We are,” Harvey and Tamara say at the same time.
“You guys are just looking for an excuse to get her into the wedding, so that she can stop it.”
“No, she’s only coming to help Tamara,” Harvey says.
Hannah places her hands on her hips. “We both know that’s a lie. She’s not getting on this plane.”
“If I’m remembering correctly,” Harvey starts, “my family owns the jet. So, you don’t get a say on who can or cannot fly on it.”
“Harvey,” Hannah says, through gritted teeth.
“Hannah.” He matches her tone, smirking.
“Fine. Fuck all of you!” she yells before storming toward the plane.
Beau walks up to us. “Harvey, do you really think it’s wise to bring Delilah?” he asks. Does he feel anything seeing me? I can’t tell.
“I know you guys have a history, but that’s in the past. Delilah understands you don’t love her anymore and has moved on. She’s only coming because Tamara needs her help with the wedding. You know they’re best friends,” Harvey explains.
“Hmm, alright.” Beau nods and walks to the plane. It’s clear that he doesn’t buy our story, but he doesn’t want to push the matter either.
“That went well,” I say as Beau disappears into the plane.
“Let’s pray the same thing happens when my aunt sees you,” Harvey says, wrapping an arm around Tamara’s waist. They walk toward the plane, and I follow.
“Jenny is going to want my head the second she sees me. I hope there are a lot of witnesses there so I can keep it,” I say, chuckling.
“Hopefully so,” Harvey replies, smiling.
I feel someone’s gaze on me the minute I step into the plane. Looking around, I find a man with a pair of blue eyes similar to Hannah’s staring at me. Who is he? He keeps staring even after I’ve caught him.
I take in the man’s appearance, and his handsomeness transfixes me. His lovely lips are spread into a smile, and his chiseled jaw makes him even more alluring. But even with all that, Beau is still the only one on my mind-the most handsome man I’ve ever met.
Someone coughs, snapping me out of my trance. I expect it to be Tamara, but I’m shocked to see it’s Beau. My eyes lock with his, and anger blazes in them for a split second before he looks away. Why is he mad?
“You should take your seats. The plane is about to take off,” Beau says, avoiding eye contact with me.
“Sure.” I take the only available seat, which happens to be beside the strange man.
“Hello, I’m Charles. Hannah’s older brother.” He extends his hand to shake mine. I look at it, shocked.
“Stay away from her, Charles. Delilah will con you out of all your money,” Hannah says.
“Really, Hannah?” I snap. “My net worth is higher than yours if we take your family’s money out of the equation.”
“I’ll pretend like you didn’t just speak to me.” She huffs and picks up a magazine. I smile and notice the side of Beau’s lips tugging upwards. I wonder if he knows Hannah is only marrying him for his family’s money.
“You’re Delilah?” Charles asks. I turn to face him, and he looks shocked, probably because I’m the last person who should be here.
“Yes.”
“My sister has spoken about how she wishes to burn you alive, though I’m sure it was an exaggeration. I can’t believe you’re here, and I must say you are much prettier than my sister described you.” He stares, taking in every inch of me.
“That’s not surprising and thank you for the compliment.”
“It shouldn’t be, knowing who you are to her fiancee, which leads me to my next question. Why are you coming to Louisiana with us? I doubt it’s for the wedding.”
“It is.” I grin mischievously. “I’m coming along so I can stop it.”
“You’re joking,” he chuckles.
It’s the truth, but he doesn’t know that. “We’ll see.” I pick up a magazine and begin to skim through the pages. I pray things go as planned, because if not, I’ll have to watch the love of my life marry someone else. That would be a nightmare.
