ALICE
I couldn’t believe I was on the run because of that infuriating bitch, Hannah. Everything was perfect – Alex was finally mine until she came along and ruined it all with her damned specialness. If only she wasn’t a rare silver wolf, that potion Collins had, the witch brew, would have worked on her. Then, it wouldn’t matter whether Alex obtained the antidote or not. But no, she just had to be fucking special, didn’t she? I seethed with rage at the thought.
Collins was a fool for not considering the possibility that the potion might not work on a silver wolf. Now, the werewolf police were likely hot on our trail for practicing black magic – a crime punishable by unimaginable horrors I dared not face.
To make matters even worse, Cameron had rejected me because of my actions, all thanks to Hannah. If Alex wasn’t so pathetically in love with her and determined to get her back, he wouldn’t have sought out that blasted antidote and given it to Cameron, leaving me with only one mate. Fury burned through my veins like molten lava. I wanted nothing more than to wrap my hands around Hannah’s throat and squeeze the life out of her cursed existence.
Last night, I had tried to convince the witch to kill Hannah for me, but Collins had caught wind of my plan and stopped it. Today, however, I had a newfound hope that he might not be able to intervene. I had discovered that the coven we were hiding in was the same one that had attacked Hannah’s pack years ago – the only coven that practiced the forbidden black magic. It was easy to deduce they were the culprits, for only black magic practitioners would dare assault the powerful silver pack.
I had always known I wasn’t the adopted one in my family, but I never understood why my parents made me lie about it until Collins revealed Hannah’s true identity to me. It was also the key to getting the witch to kill Hannah for me. Apparently, the leader of the dark magic practitioners, Henriette, had been madly in love with Hannah’s birth father, Williams. Of course, he didn’t reciprocate her feelings, as he was happily mated to another silver wolf, Selena Hannah’s mother. But Henriette didn’t care – she did everything in her power to make Williams hers but to no avail.
In a rage, she vowed to destroy everything he held dear. Henriette wasn’t even a dark magic practitioner at the time, but she needed a way to destroy Williams’ pack since he was an alpha, too. So, she turned to dark magic, twisting her coven members to do her bidding. Without her influence, they would never have gone to war with the silver pack. But her rage had also caused her to accidentally kill Williams himself when she had only meant to wound him. They say she had merely wished to weaken him, but because he turned to face Hannah, she ended up slitting his throat. Now, Henriette blamed Hannah for Williams’ death and hated her as much as I did – which made things perfect for my plan.
I knock softly on Henriette’s door, waiting for her to let me in. As I step inside, the pungent smell of potions assaults my nose, causing me to scrunch it in disgust. But I quickly school my features, not wanting to offend the ancient and powerful witch.
“What do you want, Alice?” Henriette asks, her youthful appearance belying her true age thanks to black magic. She sits cross-legged on her bed, chanting words to herself with closed eyes.
“I want to tell you something,” I reply, my heart pounding with anticipation.
“I’m listening,” she says, still not opening her eyes.
“Do you remember a silver wolf called Williams?” I ask, and in the blink of an eye, I am slammed against the nearest wall, invisible hands wrapping tightly around my throat.
“You know better than to dare speak that name here, girl,” Henriette snarls, her grip on my neck tightening, cutting off my air supply. I struggle to breathe as my legs dangle helplessly in the air.
“I know where his daughter is,” I gasp out, my vision starting to blur.
“What did you just say?” she asks, shock evident in her voice as her hold on me disappears, and I drop to the ground with a loud thud, my body aching from the fall.
“I know where Williams’ daughter is,” I repeat, rubbing my neck as I greedily gulp down air.
“Do you know the magnitude of what you are saying, girl?” Henriette asks, stepping out of her bed and slowly approaching me.
“Yes, I do,” I reply, my heart racing with each step she takes closer to me.
“Where is she?” She demands.
“I will tell you, but first, promise me something.”
“Do you know who you are talking to, girl?” she snarls, closing the gap between us. A cold shiver runs down my spine, having her so close to me. I know she isn’t someone to bargain with, but I am willing to take the risk if it means getting what I want.
“Yes, I do, again,” I say, my voice trembling slightly.
“Then you know better than to think you can bargain with me.”
“What I want is simple,” I plead. “I want to be there as you kill her. I want to watch as you drain the life from her, and I want to be the last thing she sees.”
Henriette’s eyes glint with malice. “That’s simple, dear. I can give you that. Now, tell me where she is.”
“Sky pack,” I whisper, my heart pounding in my ears.
“We leave tomorrow. Tonight, I shall prepare to get my revenge. Get out,” she says with a wave of her hand, a gust of wind forcefully expelling me from her room and slamming the door behind me.
Standing outside her door, a wide, triumphant smile spreads across my face. I can’t believe I am finally getting what I desire. I can hardly wait for tomorrow to come, for Alex to be mine again, and for that wretched bitch, Hannah, to be gone from this world forever.
