Natasha blinked.
Cara stared back.
She blinked again.
Cara stared back again.
Her mind was turning hard. From Natasha’s stance, she could tell her thoughts, but there was no way she was going to get to her destination without going through her first.
After all, the discarded gun was just a foot behind her.
She smirked, crossing her arm over her chest.
“You think he loves you? I’ve known Adonis since we were children. He doesn’t do love. He only cares if the relationship is beneficial to him.”
Cara’s eyebrow shot up in obvious doubt.
“And that’s you?”
“Of course. Our family has been a long-time ally of the Bernardis, long before Dimitri’s reign. Dimitri wanted us to be together to rule together.” She stated proudly.
Cara pursed her lips.
“Oh really? You mean the same ally who Antonio admitted wanted him dead?”
“Antonio’s a liar!” Natasha sneered. “My father has nothing to do with this!”
Tucking her tongue in the corner of her mouth, an irritated expression graced Cara’s face. It was one thing that she didn’t like the b*tch in front of her, and it was another thing that she wanted to ruin her relationship with Adonis. The most infuriating one of them all is that she tried to kill her, and now, Adonis was battling for his life.
Her fists clenched together in determination as hot anger seared through her. The last time she ever felt this way was the day she walked into her home to see her father dead.
Then, she couldn’t do anything about it and see what it led to. Things would’ve been different if she killed Antonio. They wouldn’t have to go through the recent stressful situations.
She glanced at his lifeless body. No feeling of fear; neither did she feel guilt. All she felt was emptiness.
Was Adonis rubbing off on her? Was she getting used to his lifestyle?
She didn’t know, but she was sure of one thing. She wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.
Pinning the woman in front of her with a hard look, she took a step back.
“So what now?” Natasha spat. “You want to fight it out? The winner gets to be with Adonis?” She giggled, taking a different stance. “Come at me. Come on. Let’s fight this out between ourselves. One woman to another.”
Cara watched in silence as she spewed nonsensical words, taunting her. As much as she wanted so badly to hit her, she knew it wasn’t logical.
One step away from her current position, Natasha would gain access to the gun. Moreover, she didn’t have the time to waste.
Adonis needed her.
“What are you waiting for?” Natasha sneered. “Are you scared?” She shouted, getting more worked up by the minute. “You think you deserve to be the queen, to rule by Adonis’s side? Yet you can’t even-
“Shut up.”
“What?”
In a blink of an eye, she spun around to pick up the gun, aiming it at Natasha.
“I said shut up.”
She repeated in a cool, collected voice, knowing she was in charge of the situation. She’d never used a gun before but had seen it being used enough times to try.
“You want to fight with a gun? Are you that wea-
Before Natasha complete her sentence, the cocking sound of the gun filled the room, and Cara shot her in the arm.
A pained gasp escaped her lips as she fell to her knees-not wasting another second, Cara stormed over to her. But Natasha was unwilling to accept defeat, and her lips parted to release more taunts.
“You’re just a-
Slap!
Her head whipped to the side at the force of the hit. Eyes blazing with fury, she opened her mouth once again to tell Cara off-another hit came down.
Slap!
“I warned you.” Cara breathed. “I told you I do not like you. Yet you still decided to cross my path?” She delivered another hit.
Slap!
Causing Natasha to lose her balance and fall straight to the ground.
“Stop hitting me!” She exclaimed, flaring around her uninjured arm in protection of her face.
Slap!
Cara struck again. By then, her cheek was a bleeding red, matching the crimson colour spreading all over her arm, but Cara was beyond a caring point.
Everyone must’ve forgotten, but she wasn’t the same person she used to be. She’d gone through months of brutal training-that was the only good thing she got from her dead ex. The hours of gruesome workouts and sparring sessions were not just for nothing.
They were for a day like this.
She might not be as skilled as the rest of them or even the worn-out woman in front of her, but being smart was the most important thing. Satisfied, she ran a hand through her hair, taking deep breaths as adrenaline pumped through her veins.
She staggered back with a malicious laugh.
“You think your taunts would get me to lose sight of my goal? Unlike you, I’m not stupid! Listen carefully: I’m going after my husband, and by the time I get back, you should be out of my home. Am I understood?”
Natasha stared back with an agonizing expression on her face; the only thing that gave away her anger was her bloodshot angry eyes and, strangely-confidence.
Cara cocked her head in apprehension as she pulled herself to her knees.
“If you think I’d surrender just because you have a gun, then you must be delusional.”
Then she lunged, but Cara wasn’t surprised. The look in her eyes already said it all.
She was not going to back down, and there was only one way to end it all, so just before she reached her, the gun went off for the second time, halting her movements.
Natasha stiffened, her raised hand freezing in the air as blood spluttered out of her mouth. She stared at Cara in shock.
She never believed Cara was capable of killing anyone, especially her. To her, she was just a weak girl Adonis fell for. She didn’t belong in their world.
“You… you…” She choked out as more blood flowed from her mouth, her legs finally giving out.
“You underestimated me. If Adonis is a monster. His wife should be his match, don’t you think?”
Natasha could only watch her in silence as life seeped out of her.
Cara stood in the middle of the room, heaving heavily as she came down from her power trip. She glanced at the lifeless bodies on the ground and contentment filled her.
It was finally over.
She had just taken a life for the first time, but her mind hadn’t processed it. Now that the urgency of the situation had calmed, worry overtook its place. She bolted towards the door.
Her work here was done; it was time to go to Adonis. A small beep echoed and she looked down at the band on her wrist-slowing down her movements.
“All stationed men, meet me on the estate grounds. I repeat, all stationed men, meet me on the estate grounds.” Luca’s voice resounded, and with a deep sigh, he added. “Capo Adonis is missing.”
