Paul’s POV
Pardon?
What pardon was he even talking about when it was clear how he wanted her dead! He had no remorse, and neither one of them felt pity for her.
How could Jace change just like that in a short time? How could he allow Ridge to act as he saw fit?
Leah was the apple of his eyes, and everyone knew that. Hell, all warriors, including myself, envied his position because of her.
Ever since I set my eyes on Leah, I saw a goddess in her place. She was my goddess in the flesh and in living. Her smile was light to my soul, and her words were absolute.
My loyalty was towards her, but to my wolf, his loyalty was towards our Alpha. That’s why I had to bend to his will and just submit. Miss Leah was so kind that she even spoke to the scum of the pack and took care of the others despite her being above them all.
She even blessed me when she chose me as her first partner in sex. Then she was experiencing her first heat, and I was the only one beside her. The Alpha was right in his office, and I would have called him if she didn’t stop me. She asked me to take her and pointed out how it wasn’t a mistake because she knew who I was. I couldn’t stop myself, and so I embraced her.
When morning came, I was terrified to talk to her. I couldn’t help but think about how she would curse at me and throw me out, but she didn’t. She looked at me with a smile and told me how she was looking forward to us spending quality time together and that it would be our little secret.
I was so overjoyed, and every night of the full moon, I went to hold her and claim her body. I still didn’t understand why the Alpha refused to hold her when she was in heat, but I cared less. Then it dawned on me one day how she was using me to get relief because the Alpha couldn’t fulfill her desire. Whenever she wasn’t in heat, she treated me like I was invisible, and whenever she was or when she needed my help, she became nice.
It did hurt my feelings, but I didn’t dwell much on it because just having her in my arms was way more than I could ask for. I bred and knotted her as much as I could, I even came in her deepest part, yet there was no pup in her belly, and nothing more happened between us. It became clear to me that she was doing something to stop that, and it angered me.
Then one day she just stopped calling me over, and I came to understand that she no longer had any use for me. That’s when I got to hear from one of the warriors that she had her eyes set on one of the strongest warriors. It was a joke, I told myself, but then I saw it with my very own eyes. From then on, I decided to stay away from her, which I did all this time until she was horribly punished in that room. I couldn’t stand by and let her go through such hell; I had to do something.
Talking to the Alpha did nothing, and I hated that. Now that I was standing outside the room that she was in, I didn’t know if I should go in or just act blind to her situation.
“Go back,” my wolf growled at me.
“Paul,” she called in a cracked voice, and I found myself rushing in without much thought.
She looked worse than she did the last time I had checked up on her. Her skin had bruises, her clothes had blood on them, and they were slightly torn. Her hair was a mess, and the chains were tighter than before.
I rushed to her side and touched her cheek gently.
“Did the warriors do this when I stepped out?” I asked loudly.
She looked at me as tears filled her eyes.
“Leah, answer me!” I demanded, and she weakly nodded.
“They want me dead, Paul,” she answered huskily as my heart ached badly.
I clenched my hands with a labored breath.
“I’m going to f*cking kill them all!” I exclaimed and then turned to go out when her sobs made me freeze.
I turned back and faced her sadly. It broke my heart to see her like this. No matter how much I pretended, I still had feelings for her.
“You can’t go against the Alpha or his warriors; it will only bring you trouble,” she said as I cursed under my breath.
“Then what exactly do you want me to do? I just can’t sit still and watch you suffer this much,” I whispered in a pained voice.
“Release me, please,” she mouthed the words.
I frowned deeply, feeling conflicted by her words.
If I did release her, that would mean going against the Alpha’s order, and I would lose my position for that. But then again, leaving her like this would slowly kill her. The torture she was going through was so terrible.
I walked to the door and opened it.
“Give us some privacy,” I told the two warriors who were guarding the door.
“But sir….,”
“Am I not paying you enough to keep your mouths shut? You are supposed to act blind and deaf, isn’t that part of our deal?” I asked the warrior who was about to speak, after cutting him off.
They looked at each other and then lowered their gaze to the floor.
“Leave us!” I growled loudly as they quickly bowed and walked away.
I went back to Leah and went down on my knees.
“I will release you, Leah, but then where will you go? If the Alpha finds out about this, he won’t let it slide. You and I will both be in trouble. That’s why I hope you have a plan,” I said seriously.
“Don’t worry, I have a place to go to, just release me, please. I can’t take this, Paul, I’m slowly dying. Not only did he throw me away when that bitch seduced him, he is hurting me,” she cried.
I raised my hand to touch her face but stopped myself halfway.
What was I doing? Was I really doing the right thing?
“No, don’t release her. If Ridge finds out, he will rip us into pieces,” my wolf warned.
I dropped my hand and sighed softly.
I guess he was right, Alpha Ridge was different from Jace. He was much harsher and scarier whenever he was upset.
“Leah, I think…,”
“You are the only one who has ever truly loved me in this pack, Paul,” she said loudly as I widened my eyes in astonishment.
She knew?
“I have feelings for you too, to be honest. That’s why I accepted to be touched by you besides the Alpha. I gave you my virginity, remember? Doesn’t that mean anything to you? I wanted to be with you, but then he found out somehow, and I knew he would get rid of you in anger. That’s why I began messing with a warrior to take his mind off you and pin his anger towards him. I did it to protect you, Paul, because I love you,” she said as I felt my heart flutter.
She truly did love me! There was no reason for her to lie because she did choose me as her first and held my hand whenever we were all alone.
“Don’t worry, my goddess. I will set you free and make sure you leave this pack unnoticed. Just remember me when you settle down. Write to me or even call me; I will be waiting for you,” I said as she smiled.
I was going to set her free and pin the whole incident on those two warriors guarding her. Jace was bound to believe his close friend over those two losers.
I was going to do my best for the she-wolf I loved and adored.
