Mirabelle’s POV:
I swallowed hard, walking toward the table. My heart was beating louder in my ears with every step. As I reached the table, I hesitated, then she moved her scarf just enough for me to see her face.
It was Natasha!
I moved back slightly, my instincts screaming at me to walk away, to turn around and leave before I got any deeper into whatever game she was playing. But Natasha’s eyes held me in place.
She tilted her head, as if she was amused by my shock. “Mirabelle.” She said softly, her voice almost too sweet. “Aren’t you curious about what happened between Noah and I?”
For a moment, I just stared at her, too stunned to say anything. But my shock quickly morphed into anger. How dare she? How dare she sit there and act like nothing had happened between them? Like she wasn’t the reason I was questioning everything I knew about Noah?
I fought to keep my voice calm. “Why should I care? Why should I even be here, listening to this?”
Natasha smiled, a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Well, you’re here, aren’t you?” She paused, letting the silence stretch between us. “You want to know the truth. About us.”
I clenched my fists under the table, my nails digging into my palms. “You and Noah?” I spat, barely keeping my composure. “Why should anyone want to get back together with someone else’s husband?”
Natasha didn’t flinch at my harsh words. Instead, she shrugged, as if the idea of betraying someone was nothing more than a minor inconvenience. “Nothing happened between Noah and me, the two times our pictures flooded the internet. It was just a misunderstanding that I kinda played a important role in creating, Mirabelle” She revealed. “But after everything that’s been happening, you know the way my fans would love to see me together with your husband. I’ve come to realize… that maybe the universe wants us back together.”
I could feel the anger bubbling up inside me. “The universe?” I scoffed. “You’re delusional if you think that’s how things work.”
Natasha’s smile never faltered. “It’s not just a feeling, it’s destiny. And soon, Noah and I are going to Shanghai together. For a business trip.” She leaned forward, her voice lowering. “And that’s when I intend to make sure something happens between us.”
I could feel the blood rushing to my face. “You can’t be serious,” I said, my voice shaking. “You’re planning to sleep with my husband? While we’re still married?”
She just shrugged again, as if it was no big deal. “If it happens, it happens. The universe has a funny way of making these things come to light.”
I stood up abruptly, my chair scraping against the floor. I couldn’t sit there another second listening to her poison my thoughts. “You’re a piece of trash, Natasha,” I said through gritted teeth. “You’ll never have him. I’ll make sure of it.”
With that, I stormed out of the cafe, my heart racing. As I walked to my car, I could feel the pain in my chest. I slammed the door shut.
For a moment, I drove aimlessly, my hands gripping the wheel too tightly. Then, without thinking, I reversed the car and headed toward Noah’s office. I wasn’t sure what I was doing, but I needed to see him.
Noah’s office building stood tall before me, its glass windows reflecting the city lights. I parked the car, then I walked into the building, my heels clicking against the marble floor as I approached the reception desk.
“Can I help you?” The receptionist asked.
“I’m here to see the CEO,” I said, firmly. “I’m his wife.”
The receptionist’s eyes widened slightly, but she quickly regained her calmness. “Of course, please follow me.”
She escorted me to Noah’s office, where I could hear voices. As we reached the door, the receptionist knocked softly and then opened it.
Noah was sitting at his desk, deep in conversation with his manager, Samuel. When his eyes met mine, everything else in the room seemed to vanish. His face shifted from focused to stunned, and within seconds, he dismissed Samuel with a curt nod. “Leave us.” He demanded.
Samuel nodded, looking between us, before quickly exiting and shutting the door behind him.
The silence between Noah and I stretched. Then he leaned back in his chair, studying me. “What’s going on, Mirabelle?”
I didn’t waste time. “Are you really going to Shanghai with Natasha?” I asked.
His brow furrowed, and he sighed. “Yes, it’s a business trip. Why?”
I clenched my fists, trying to hold back the surge of anger. “I know that nothing happened between the two of you, but I can’t stop thinking that you two being together, working together, is going to make something happen. I can’t just ignore it.”
Noah’s lips lifted into a smirk, and then, to my shock, he burst into laughter. “You don’t trust me, do you?” He asked. “You question my partnership with Natasha, but you’re still working with Ken. A man you were once married to.”
His words hit me like a slap to the face. “That’s not the same, Noah,” I said, my voice shaking. “You’re going on a business trip with her. Alone.”
He raised an eyebrow, his smile fading. “I trusted you not to cheat on me with Ken. I killed every single doubt I had when I gave you my full support and allowed you to work with Ken. But here you are, questioning my loyalty to you.”
I felt my heart leap. “Fine,” I spat, stepping back. “As long as you keep working with Natasha, I’ll keep spending time with Ken until you see that what you’re doing is wrong.”
He leaned forward. “If you want to play games, fine. But know this: I’m not the only one who needs to prove anything.”
With that, I slammed the door behind me, my footsteps echoing through the hallway as I stormed out of his office.
