Conrad narrowed his eyes. “Are you looking for trouble?”
Ever since the last time he said those words, it seemed like this guy hadn’t listened at all.
Frank responded, “I’m the only family Lillian has left. If she comes to stay with me, it’s the most proper thing.”
“You don’t need to argue. Where she goes, Lillian will decide.”
Besides, given Lillian’s current state, anyone who pushed her would not know what consequences they’d face.
Even Conrad, usually so domineering, didn’t continue to press Frank.
“Everyone’s tired today. Let’s all rest,” Melissa said as she turned to go back to her room.
She didn’t check what was happening outside but knew Conrad hadn’t left.
Downstairs, George and the others hadn’t left either.
A group of men who could cause an economic shock just by stomping their feet in City N had all gathered in this small courtyard.
Melissa returned and hugged Lillian from behind. “Kama is staying here tonight too. She said you don’t need to worry about the store orders. She’ll handle shipping for you.”
Lillian stared out the window, not sure what she was thinking.
Melissa gently stroked her hair. “Lillian, you still have us.”
Lillian closed her eyes.
Conrad smoked cigarettes all night.
The moonlight outside was blurred by the smoke rings, making everything look unclear.

“No!” Daisy suddenly sat up in bed, looking around at the dimly lit room, drenched in sweat.
She didn’t even know what kind of nightmare she had just had, but in the dream, someone had been standing at her bedside, demanding her life.
Daisy quickly turned to the side, grabbed her phone from the nightstand, and made a call.
As Daisy’s personal assistant, Irene was on standby 24/7 and never dared turn her phone off.
As soon as Daisy’s call came through, Irene immediately took the elevator upstairs.
“Miss, what happened?”
Daisy asked her to turn on all the lights and then wrapped her arms around herself. “Irene, what is Conrad doing? Has he gone back to City N?”
“No, I heard he’s still in that small town.”
Recently, Conrad had been handling the funeral arrangements for Lillian’s grandmother, practically announcing his relationship with Lillian to the world.
Everyone suddenly realized that Lillian had somehow hooked up with Conrad. No wonder Evelyn had fallen out of favor and had been chased by Daisy.
Now, everyone was thinking of ways to get close to Lillian, and those who had bad relationships with her seemed to have disappeared, all afraid Lillian might seek revenge later.
As a result, the people who went to Lillian’s hometown for the funeral were all trying to curry favor with Conrad while also giving real-time updates about the situation.
Daisy was part of that circle.
She was still Conrad’s rumored fiancee.
The two families had released news a long time ago, but there was still no news of an engagement. They hadn’t even chosen a date yet.
How could Daisy not be anxious?
Especially those who wished for her breakup with Conrad-they couldn’t wait to deliver all the gossip right to Daisy’s doorstep.
So, even though Daisy had purposely avoided the funeral, she still received photos from the scene through other channels.
Conrad was wearing a black suit, standing next to that woman.
He was even standing in that rundown little yard, talking to a group of villagers who appeared from nowhere.
Regardless of their status, Conrad personally attended to everyone, behaving like a grandson-in-law.
Especially the photos taken by those people-one even showed Conrad kneeling in front of the old woman’s body. When Daisy saw them, she was consumed with jealousy!
He had certainly hidden Lillian well, bringing Gordon and his group to support Lillian, all while acting as her boyfriend at the funeral!
Just thinking about it made Daisy want to smash the room to pieces.
What was she lacking compared to Lillian?!
Conrad had gone running to perform rites for her dead grandmother!
This was ridiculous!
What did he take her for?!
“No!” Daisy suddenly knocked over the desk lamp onto the floor.
“Miss!” Irene jumped in surprise.
“Did you shut that bodyguard up?”
“We’ve already paid him off. He was hired by us to follow Eric. If Mr. Conrad investigates the car accident, he should only find out about the drunk driving. Besides, the bodyguard is ready to leave the country with his son. The money we gave him will save him decades of hard work. And we’ve arranged for his son’s school too.”
“Make sure he keeps his mouth shut! Conrad must never find out that this has anything to do with me!”
“I understand!”
Daisy was filled with anxiety, always fearing that Conrad would discover the truth. She had been thrown into a panic by that instigator, Evelyn, so she arranged the car accident.
“That Evelyn!”
“Miss, don’t lose your composure. She only wanted to ruin your engagement with Mr. Conrad. She’s too scared to say anything directly to him. Even if she did, there’s no evidence. The car accident was aimed at Eric, and he only injured his leg, not his life. That old woman’s death wasn’t intentional.”
Daisy was comforted by this. “Yeah, I only wanted to stop Eric. Who knew that Lillian’s grandmother was there too?! What does that have to do with me?”
She never intended to kill anyone!
It wasn’t her fault that the old woman just happened to be on the highway, and the car behind her hit her-it wasn’t her responsibility.
There were surveillance cameras to prove it.
She couldn’t possibly have arranged for every driver on that road.
And the bodyguard didn’t directly hit Eric; he just let a private car beside them accidentally crash into him.
“You’re right! When he took Eric away for Lillian, didn’t he think about how my grandfather was also dying? I just wanted to stop Eric. What’s wrong with that?” As Daisy tried to comfort herself, she lay down. “I didn’t do anything wrong. It’s her, she seduced my fiance… and stole my grandfather’s primary doctor.”
