Lillian had her legs wrapped around him.
“Didn’t you have enough to eat? Dammit,” Conrad cursed under his breath, deciding that Lillian shouldn’t go to work today. She should stay under him.
The two of them had stayed in the room all morning, and by the time Lillian managed to get out of the room, it was almost noon.
Jack urgently needed to talk to her, saying there was an issue with a drawing on the construction site, which immediately wiped away the lazy feeling she had.
Lillian quickly jumped out of bed and hurried to the study to find Conrad, who had been busy. He had taken two months off to chase after Hunter, and now there was a mountain of business matters waiting for him at the Brown Family Group.
Conrad was shirtless, only wearing a pair of lounge pants, with Ada at his feet, rubbing against him wanting attention.
When Lillian barged into the study, Conrad was in a meeting. He took off his headphones and muted the sound. “What’s all the rush about?”
Lillian paused for a moment before saying, “There’s an issue at the construction site. I need to go take a look.”
Conrad didn’t want her to go.
But Lillian quickly added, “The beef from that shop last time was really good. I’ll bring some back and make you steak for dinner, okay?”
Conrad raised an eyebrow, wanting to praise her for her newfound way of speaking. At least it sounded good.
“Fine. Just this afternoon.”
“That’s enough.”
“And how are you getting there?”
“I… I’ll call a cab.”
Conrad opened a drawer and tossed her a set of car keys.
Lillian froze for a second. The car keys were pink and white, with the Maserati logo clearly on them. They were exactly like the keys she used to have.
She didn’t think too much about it. After quickly gathering her work things, she went downstairs and ran to the garage. There, beside the car Conrad usually drove, she found a pink Maserati.
Lillian was a little unsure if her eyes were playing tricks on her. She rubbed them and walked over to the car.
She ran her hands over the car’s body, then looked at the interior. She checked the license plate and quickly ran to the car door.
“Here.”
She looked up.
Conrad was leaning against the balcony, blowing out a puff of smoke, raising an eyebrow. “Take it out for a spin. Do you remember the feeling?”
Lillian wanted to ask him when he had arranged all of this. But she was too thrilled!
This was one of the birthday gifts her father had given her when she turned 18. She still remembered what he had said:
“Girls need a good pair of shoes. They’ll take you everywhere.”
“You’ll buy your own shoes later, but I’ll buy you a car, and it will take you anywhere you want to go.”
She had gotten her driver’s license early, but after the family’s financial troubles started, she couldn’t keep the car. After the assets were seized, she had to leave the car behind.
Lillian went back to the garage, and in the quiet corner, she ran her hands over the car again and again.
Conrad was sitting in the study, watching the stubborn but genuine side of her. He saved the video.
Then a loud crash echoed through the monitor.
“Lillian, if you don’t know how to drive, don’t get behind the wheel!”
She had stepped on the gas instead of the brake and ended up crashing into his two cars!
Lillian rolled down the window. “I can drive. I just didn’t get the feel for it right away.”
“Are you crazy? You still dare to drive? Want to be a road hazard?”
“I’ll practice here before going on the road.”
“Stay in the car and wait for me!”
Conrad started to get out of the study, but Lillian quickly reversed the car and drove off.
She seemed to be much more skilled than before.
Conrad stood there, hands on his hips, fuming.
“Andrew, follow her. Don’t let her get into trouble.”
“Got it.”
Lillian knew Andrew was following her, but since she wasn’t planning to run away, she didn’t mind at all.
The feeling of driving again was great, but Lillian kept her focus on the road, too nervous to make a wrong turn. Fortunately, once she reached the suburban roads, there were fewer cars around.
She parked at the construction site and was about to get out when the car window was knocked on.
Lillian paused, her hand still on her bag, and turned to look.
Gordon stood there, looking down at her with an expression that seemed like he was ready to hold her accountable.
She quickly opened the door and got out.
Gordon greeted her and walked around her car. “Hmm, I feel like I’ve seen you standing next to this car before. Did we have this scene before?”
Lillian closed the car door. “Well, as you can see, this was my car.”
Gordon suddenly understood. “I thought I was dreaming about you! Did Conrad get it back for you?”
“Yeah.”
Gordon thought that Conrad had to be possessed by some kind of spirit lately, doing things that were totally out of character for him.
“You’re not being very considerate, you know? I just left to handle some things for a few days, and you said you’d take care of my money tree. If I’d been any later, it would’ve withered. Luckily, I’m a kind person, so I stayed here to wait for you.”
“Well, thank you, Mr. Gordon, for saving your money tree,” Lillian quickly said, giving him a small bow. “But I really need to go now. I’ll talk to you later.”
She was about to run off when Gordon grabbed her arm and pulled her back. “Wait, don’t rush.”
“What’s going on now?”
Gordon glanced over at Conrad’s people, seeing that they had parked the car but hadn’t approached yet. He released Lillian’s arm.
“What’s going on with you and… Helen?”
Lillian froze. “What do you know?”
“Don’t worry, people outside still don’t know about you and Helen. It’s still at the point where things were left last time. Conrad sent people to handle it, but my PR manager saw it and thought I was involved with you, so she sent it to me.”
“I don’t want to talk about that woman. From now on, I have nothing to do with her.” Since Gordon knew the situation, Lillian didn’t bother hiding it.
Gordon could tell that the last time Lillian mentioned her relationship with Helen, she had smiled bitterly. This time, however, there seemed to be no emotion at all.
“Lillian!” Jack had been waiting impatiently at the door. Seeing she was still talking to someone, he quickly came over to call her.
“I’ll go ahead.”
“Okay.” Gordon watched Lillian jog toward Jack, silently leaning against the car.
“What’s going on between you and Mr. Gordon? The team’s been saying that you’ve been linked to two big shots now. Does that Mr. Hogan and Mr. Lionel have something to do with you?” Jack asked as they walked.
“If I really had so many rich guys behind me, I wouldn’t need to work as a small director in this crew,” Lillian replied. “I could get them to work for me if I wanted to.”
Jack considered her answer and thought it made sense.
“But really, is Conrad your boyfriend, or is it Gordon?”
“When did you start working as an entertainment industry paparazzi?” Lillian teased.
“I’m just worried you’ll get into trouble! These two big shots are not easy to deal with!”
Lillian laughed. “I don’t want either of them. Why should I tie myself to just one man? Right now, all I want to do is finish this movie, and then I’ll stay with my grandmother and have a good rest. I know I can’t get involved with either of those two, and I don’t want to.”
