“Well, if there’s anything you need, just contact me.” Lillian hung up the phone.
Conrad had already returned to his office.
“Where are you?”
“What were you doing just now?”
Lillian looked frustrated. “I made a phone call. Is there anything you need, Mr. Conrad?”
Conrad thought her use of “Mr. Conrad” now sounded like a subtle hint.
“Someone just splashed water all over me. Go buy me some new underwear,” Conrad said, eyeing her from head to toe. “And change out of that skirt-put on some pants.”
Lillian was wondering who the reckless person was that dared to splash Conrad. She was about to ask, but he had already picked up the phone and waved for her to leave.
She grabbed her bag and headed downstairs, where she saw a bodyguard escorting a female employee out of the office building.
“I need to see Mr. Conrad! I’m here because of him!” The woman screamed desperately.
The employees of Brown Family Group acted as if they hadn’t heard a thing.
“How many times is this now?”
“Mr. Conrad has more admirers than I have creditors.”
Lillian felt embarrassed. So Conrad didn’t even have a clean pair of underwear to change into?
Suddenly, she imagined the sight of him in discomfort, still wearing wet pants while making a phone call. No wonder he’d told her to get out so quickly.
Lillian couldn’t help but smile. Sometimes, that man was actually kind of cute.
She went straight to the largest mall nearby. After buying the things Conrad needed, she spotted a tie.
“Miss, this is a new design. If your boyfriend is the kind of stylish, slightly rebellious gentleman, this tie would be perfect for him-it’s not too formal.”
Lillian immediately thought it would suit Conrad. After all, she was using his card.
“Wrap it up.”
“I’ll take the tie.”
Just then, a haughty voice interrupted.
Lillian turned around, and her face immediately darkened.
Standing behind her were none other than Fanny and Sophia.
It seemed that after Helen returned to the country, John’s family had wasted no time getting in touch.
Fanny and Sophia, who usually had terrible tempers, were arm in arm, acting like best friends, clearly enjoying watching her.
Sophia had always held a grudge against Lillian. That night, Lillian had been just a waitress. Even if she had been mistaken for a thief, what was the point of claiming she was wronged?
It had caused Sophia to lose face in front of so many people. When had she ever been humiliated like that? Why should she be the one to suffer this injustice?
Seeing Lillian today, Sophia couldn’t hold back her resentment any longer.
“Didn’t you hear me? I want this tie. Put it on my card.”
“Sorry, miss, I’ll have another colleague assist you.” The saleswoman wasn’t blind.
Lillian? The saleswoman had worked here for years and recognized this famous bankrupt heiress. Even though she was bankrupt, she used to be one of the store’s big clients. And looking at her current outfit, she didn’t look like someone who couldn’t afford to pay upfront.
City N had plenty of rich people, and the sales staff had sharp eyes.
Fanny glared at the saleswoman, seething with anger. “What’s your name? Call your manager. I’m going to file a complaint!”
The saleswoman looked toward the security guard at the door. “Sorry, our store offers one-on-one service to all customers. If you continue with this attitude, it will affect the shopping environment, and I will take the necessary measures to ensure my safety.”
Lillian naturally didn’t want to waste any more time with Fanny and Sophia.
With Conrad’s card in hand, why should she put up with their nonsense?
“Anything they want today, I’ll buy it all,” Lillian told the saleswoman.
Fanny thought she’d misheard. Her sharp voice rang out, “Lillian! You think just by clinging to a rich man, you can do whatever you want?”
Lillian’s striking features had always made her stand out. She was the kind of woman whose bone structure and beauty were so flawless that even Fanny’s exaggerated efforts couldn’t match the natural charm Lillian effortlessly exuded with every move she made.
Lillian tossed her bag onto the sofa and gave her a disdainful smile. “Yeah, I’m clinging to rich men now. If I’m not going to bully you, then who am I supposed to bully?”
She tilted her head and looked Fanny over. “At least it’s better than you. How’s things with Mark lately?”
At that, Fanny’s face turned red, and she couldn’t stop herself from reaching out to slap her.
The bodyguard Conrad had sent to follow her was inside the store. Seeing the situation unfold, he quickly twisted Fanny’s arm behind her back before Lillian could even react.
Just then, Helen walked in to find her daughter and happened to witness the scene.
“Sophia! What are you two doing?”
Helen had just returned to the country, and with all the trending topics about her, if someone caught her daughter and niece in a conflict with others, it would be a mess.
She shot a sharp look at the woman who had her back to her, and just as she was about to ease the tension, she realized it was Lillian.
“Aunt!” Fanny tried to break free from the bodyguard but couldn’t.
“Mom, this woman is being completely unreasonable! Last night, she definitely did it on purpose. Now she’s making a scene, saying that whatever I want to buy, she’ll take it too. I think this tie would be perfect for Dad, and she’s trying to steal it from me!”
Helen patted Sophia reassuringly, then glared at Lillian. “Can you at least have your man let go of Fanny?”
Lillian hadn’t even looked at her since she entered the store. Hearing this, she smirked and turned to the saleswoman. “Everything I asked for earlier, including this tie, please.”
“Certainly, Miss, I’ll handle that for you right away.” The saleswoman felt a little nervous when she saw Helen.
Lillian motioned for the bodyguard to release Fanny, and Sophia glared at her. “Mom, this tie would be perfect for Dad, let’s just buy it!”
Helen glanced at the tie and hesitated. “At your dad’s age, he should wear something heavier in color. Let’s skip this one.”
“Why? I rarely get to buy something for Dad!”
Lillian wasn’t interested in listening to the mother-daughter duo argue. She wasn’t about to entertain their display of family affection. She motioned for the bodyguard to take the packaged items and leave.
Fanny was furious, but afraid Lillian would actually have someone hit her, she could only show Helen how much she was hurt, wincing in pain.
That suffocating feeling returned. Lillian reached the exit of the mall, but Helen called out to her.
“Lillian.” Helen put on her sunglasses, avoiding the crowd around them. “Can we talk?”
“I don’t have anything to say to you.”
Lillian tried to walk past her, but Helen stopped her. “I want to go to the hospital to see Mom. I heard you had someone take your grandmother to the hospital for emergency care, and even prevented your uncle from seeing her. Lillian, don’t you think you’ve gone too far?”
Lillian stopped in her tracks. She turned around, staring at her in disbelief. “What did you just say?”
Helen sighed, as if speaking to a child who didn’t understand. “Let’s sit down and talk.”
Lillian scoffed. “I’m busy. Busy making money. Unlike you, Mrs. Peter, who has plenty of time to shop and buy luxury goods for your daughter. My grandmother still needs my money to survive. If you want me to sit down and chat with you, are you going to pay for my time?”
Helen raised an eyebrow. “How much do you want?”
Lillian smiled coldly. “One hundred thousand dollars per minute. Transfer the money, and I’ll give you the time.”
