As the people in the room scattered, Lillian suddenly asked, “Why did they go see Gordon? What happened to him?”
Hearing Lillian finally ask about Gordon, Conrad toyed with a lock of her hair. “He got hurt.”
“Why?”
“You care about him?”
“Well…If you don’t want me to ask, I won’t.”
But Conrad spoke up anyway. “The night Hunter took you, Gordon was there too. He managed to stop some of the cars, but not Hunter.”
Lillian froze. “Gordon was there?”
So the reason those cars didn’t catch up was because Gordon stopped them?
“Didn’t you say you were going to see him? We’ll go after I finish eating.”
Lillian glanced at the tattoo artist who was still working, then nodded.
Conrad gently stroked her cheek and suddenly asked, “Next time, think more. I’m not always going to be around to show up just in time.”
Lillian wanted to tell him she’d been ambushed with some kind of injection, but she kept quiet.
“Alright,” the silent man finally put his tools away, standing up succinctly.
Conrad looked at the freshly done kiss mark on his chest and nodded with satisfaction. “Over the years, only your work has been worth my attention.”
The tattoo artist Python grabbed his toolkit. “I’ll leave for now. Call me if you need anything.”
“Wait,” Conrad pulled out Lillian’s blood test results and handed them to him. “Help me check what this drug is and if it has any side effects.”
Python glanced at Lillian. Since Conrad was personally sending him, this must be something rare that couldn’t be found on the market yet. “Got it.”
Lillian still wanted to ask something, but Python had already left, disappearing as quietly as he had arrived. Even in a mask, his height and build made him hard to ignore.
“What are you staring at him for? Come over and help,” Conrad said, clearly annoyed. This woman never knew how to stay in her lane.
Lillian was speechless. She was just curious, what was the big deal?
“There are new shirts in the wardrobe.”
Conrad always cared about his appearance. If he had to wear a rough hospital gown, he’d rather run around naked.
The guy had the ego to think people should pay him to look at his body.
Lillian got up to grab the shirt, but as soon as she turned, Conrad blocked her with his arm.
“You still have an injury,” Lillian quietly reminded him.
Conrad looked down at her, expressionless. “You think I don’t know that?”
He tossed his jacket at her. “Put it on.”
“I’m not cold.”
“I think you’ll look better in it, okay?”
Going to see Gordon, Conrad had to make it clear who she belonged to-nobody else should be thinking about her. It was better if they didn’t ruin their friendships in the process.
Conrad changed into his clothes and led Lillian upstairs.
When they opened the door to the hospital room, anyone who didn’t know better might’ve thought they walked into a club. Tall models dressed in maid outfits, with a mix of curvy and slender women, all gathered around the room.
“Mr. Gordon~ The bath’s ready. Do you need me to go in with you?”
“Mr. Gordon, how does this flower look when it’s arranged like this?”
Hogan and his crew were once again playing Mahjong wherever they went. Gordon had a cast on his leg but was still holding a card with one hand.
Conrad stood at the door, raising an eyebrow. “Looks like I came at a bad time.”
“Oh, it’s the perfect time. Just when Lionel was about to head to the office. Hurry up and take his place.”
“You’re going to the office at this time?”
Lionel grabbed his coat. “Yeah, because of the weather, the airport’s been holding a lot of customers, and I need to go sort it out.”
As the heir to the aviation empire, Lionel had to take charge in situations like these. He’d returned to the country when the Archer Family Group was on the verge of collapse, and in just two years, he had turned it around with his looks and methods. Now, he was at the top of City N’s airline industry.
Not only that, but he was also a pilot, and some people even went so far as to track the flights he piloted, just hoping for a chance to meet him. He’d risen to prominence after George’s marriage was revealed, pushing his way to the top as one of City N’s most eligible bachelors.
Before leaving, Lionel gave Lillian a slight nod and left the room.
With the place feeling suffocating, Lillian didn’t know whether to sit or stand.
“We’re not here to play cards. We’re here to thank you,” Conrad said, his tone pointed. “You’ve seen Gordon, so why don’t you say hello to him?”
Gordon looked up with a faint smirk at Conrad. “You came to see me, but no gift?”
“I’m here to see what you might need so I can send Ford to get it.”
“Well, thanks… How are you?” Gordon played a card, but his question was clearly aimed at Lillian.
“I had a check-up. Everything’s fine. What about you?”
“I’m not dying,” Gordon replied, just as a long-legged model leaned over and popped a grape into his mouth. “Mr. Gordon~ I adore you! I’ve watched your racing videos so many times. Can I get your autograph?”
Gordon raised an eyebrow. “Feeding me a grape earns you an autograph? Dream on.”
“Ugh, you’re so mean!” the model giggled.
Conrad, looking unimpressed, stood up. “See that? He’s busy. Don’t hang around and cause trouble. We’re leaving.”
Gordon pushed the cards away. “I’m done.” His gaze shifted to Lillian. “You shouldn’t be out when you’re still recovering. A girl like you has no business getting involved in life-threatening stuff. This time, you got lucky. I hope there won’t be a next time where I have to save you.”
“There won’t be a next time. Thanks for this one,” Conrad cut in, answering for Lillian. Then he grabbed her arm and pulled her away.
It felt like another word between them would’ve started an argument.
Hogan continued dealing with the cards, shaking his head. “What’s up with you two? You didn’t used to be like this. Now every little thing turns into a spat. Is this some kind of show?”
“Why don’t you ask him why he’s acting like a lunatic?” Gordon shot back.
Since the last time he mentioned wanting Lillian to be his girlfriend, the next day his racing team got into trouble. His company, the Smith Family Group, was known for its sports and athletes. Some major scandals about three of their star drivers were exposed all at once. Despite an emergency PR effort, they couldn’t stop the fans from going wild.
Gordon, as the sponsor driver for his own team, had seen three of their previous events postponed for other reasons. Who would believe it wasn’t Conrad’s doing behind the scenes?
He’d barely caught his breath and didn’t have time to track down Lillian. But that day, if he hadn’t randomly thought of finding a few old buddies to go race with, he never would’ve run into her.
Hogan shrugged. “We grew up together, man. I know what kind of guy you are. I just don’t want you two making a mess over Lillian.”
Gordon sneered. “What, it’s okay for him to bully her but not for me to help? I can’t stand seeing that kind of drama.”
“Gordon, you’re getting too involved.”
“If Lillian was his legit girlfriend, if I even look at her again, I’d gouge my own eyes out. You know how the White family operates. Now that he’s holding on to Lillian so tightly, the White family is definitely going to target her. Are you telling me I should just stand by and watch Lillian fall into trouble?”
Hogan raised an eyebrow. “I remember you went to the same school as Lillian, right?”
“City N is where all the rich people send their kids to that school. What’s so strange about that? But don’t get the wrong idea-Back then, I’d never gotten along with rich girls like Lillian. Besides, her father Alvin treated her like his precious gem. There was no way he’d approve of someone like me, a troublemaker.”
“Alright, enough of that.” Hogan clicked his tongue.
“By the way, you sure know how to cause trouble. Even in the hospital, you’re pulling stunts. Look at all these women in the room, it’s like a nightclub in here.”
Gordon looked confused. “How do you know I invited these women? I’m injured and hospitalized. Am I really going to bring a bunch of strangers here to laugh at me? Wasn’t it you guys who called them?”
Hogan and the others exchanged looks. “If we had invited them, would I be asking you?”
“Then who else would it be?”
In an instant, everyone got the picture. They were speechless. It was obvious that Conrad had purposely sent these women to Gordon’s hospital room to make Lillian think that Gordon was a playboy.
“Looks like Conrad’s still playing around with his little caged bird.”
They were truly speechless at Conrad. He really thought Lillian had something going on with Gordon, so he brought in a bunch of women to stage this whole act.
