Chapter 126 The Hints

Book:My Unexpected Billionaire Husband Published:2025-2-8

As soon as the word “love” came up, both Merry and David shot Sarah a gossiping look.
Sarah picked up a piece of cake and took her time tasting it.
Saying she didn’t love him would definitely be a lie. But if she were to say she did love him-
There were just too many beautiful things in the world. The moon had countless admirers. But how many of those admirers could actually get close?
Just like Merry said, Holden’s intentions were hard to read; he was dangerous. Holden was the type who would treat his prey like a game, playing with them until he got bored and then letting them go.
Sarah imagined what it would be like to confess her feelings to him. Yeah, it would probably go something like this-
“Mr. Holden, I think I’ve fallen for you.”
“I told you before, you just need to stick to the agreement and not develop feelings for me. Sarah, you’re breaking the terms now. Butler Ted, kick her out.”
And then, there she’d be, standing outside the villa late at night with her sad little suitcase, looking like a wealthy family’s abandoned wife, unable to catch a ride because there were hardly any taxis around.
The most embarrassing part of all? Getting kicked out by her crush right after confessing her feelings. That was just too humiliating.
Sarah still hoped to maintain a bit of dignity. Like, she wanted to take her suitcase and walk out on her own.
She’d show her strength by secretly rolling up all her clothes. If she couldn’t fit everything in one trip, she’d just make a few more.
As for the jewelry? Forget about it… She figured brands would sponsor her jewelry in the future.
David and Merry had never seen Sarah this down before. Even when she found out Ronald wasn’t waiting for her, and then he had a girlfriend, she only said in front of everyone that no one would stand still waiting.
Neither of them had spent time with Holden, so they couldn’t really tell what he was like. The only thing they could be sure of was that, while Holden seemed gentle, he was actually harder to win over than Ronald.
After they finished eating, they tidied up a bit, and Merry took Sarah back to her hotel.
Sarah laid her head on the pillow for a while, then pulled out her phone to message Butler Ted. She needed to verify what David said.
“Butler Ted, did my dad come by the Smith family?”
Butler Ted replied quickly, “Mr. Brown met with Mr. Holden a few days ago.”
Sarah, “Do you know what they talked about?”
Butler Ted, “No, it was just the two of them in the private room.”
Sarah lazily sprawled out on the big bed in the room of the hotel. She still felt pretty tired and just wanted to rest a bit. But as soon as she thought of Mr. Brown meeting privately with Holden to discuss a divorce, she perked up immediately.
It was an arranged marriage, after all, and she figured she’d already gotten plenty out of it. Even if they divorced, she had no intention of splitting Holden’s wealth. That was all his hard-earned empire from before they met, and she didn’t have the nerve to take any of it. Honestly, the setup she had now was already amazing.
To Sarah, Holden was the most generous man she met-aside from the fact that he was hard to read and could be moody sometimes, he didn’t have any real flaws.
So if Mr. Brown had actually managed to get anything out of Holden… he better hand it all over! Not a penny was left behind!
Sarah called Mr. Brown, but he didn’t pick up and even hung up on her. Now she was really curious and called again. He still didn’t answer.
Oh well. She rolled over in bed, figuring she’d deal with him once she got back to City N.
What she didn’t know was that the Brown family was in utter chaos at that moment, and Mr. Brown wasn’t interested in picking up anyone’s call.
Sarah thought, This won’t work. She’d been single her whole life, and now that she finally loved someone, she couldn’t just let the chance slip by. If she didn’t drop a hint now, Holden could end up as her ex-husband in no time.
Sarah had a knack for acting, but when it came to romance, she was totally clueless. She sneaked over to Crystal’s room to ask her for some tips on winning Holden over.
Crystal looked at her in disbelief. “Are you still talking about that super-rich, movie-star-handsome guy?”
Sarah pointed to herself. “Yep, he is my husband.”
Crystal thought Sarah had to be joking. But as Sarah’s mentor in the game, Crystal wasn’t about to withhold any dating tricks she knew.
“First,” Crystal started, patting Sarah’s shoulder, “you gotta drop hints in your social media to catch his attention and get him to message you…”
She went on, talking so much that she had to reach for a drink at the end. Sarah handed her a can of sugar-free soda, all ready and waiting.
Crystal gave Sarah a long look. Honestly, she thought there was an easier way-just pretend to be drunk and seduce him! With her beauty, Sarah would have him wrapped around her finger in no time.
Sarah, newly equipped with Crystal’s romance advice, returned to her hotel room, phone in hand.
A full moon was visible outside, and the night really was beautiful.
She snapped a photo of the moon, then started typing out a dramatic little message for her feed, “I can’t sleep… the moonlight tonight is beautiful. Reminds me of someone.”
And who was she thinking of? No one but Holden, obviously.
Once she typed it all out, Sarah suddenly felt a little silly. If she saw a friend post something like this late at night, she’d definitely assume they were fishing for attention.
She sent a screenshot to Crystal for feedback first.
Crystal was impressed. “That’s some poetic writing! If you went to school, you’d definitely get into college!”
Sarah sighed. “I did graduate college, you know.”
The more Crystal looked, the more she liked it. “Just you wait. If he’s even a little into you, he’ll see your post and be messaging you within three minutes, grilling you about who you’re thinking of.”
Sarah got a burst of confidence and posted it for real. She quickly got a bunch of likes and comments.
David: [LOL! This can’t be Sarah herself-what little kid stole her phone and posted that?]
Merry: [Sarah, are you thinking of me? Because I miss you too!]
Butler Ted: [Please, just stop thinking!]
Sarah kept fishing but still hadn’t reeled in the one person she actually wanted to notice. She started wondering if Holden just didn’t check his feed.
Meanwhile…
Butler Ted was standing there, nervous as could be.
Holden held a glass of whiskey, his cold expression half-hidden in shadow, the other half lit just enough to reveal a dark intensity in his eyes, almost blood-red.
Butler Ted offered him a pill, testing the waters. “Mr. Holden, maybe take some medicine and get some rest?”
Holden’s grip tightened, and the crystal glass shattered instantly, whiskey dripping from his palm. “Who do you think she’s thinking about when she looks at the moon?”
Butler Ted replied quickly, “It has to be you, Mr. Holden!”
Holden gave a faint smile. “But she and I don’t have any memories tied to the moon.”
Butler Ted scrambled to recover, “Um, maybe, probably… it’s you…? I mean, it could be…”
At times like this, Holden wished he could drag Ronald out and get rid of him. He couldn’t understand why, even after Sarah had changed so much, she’d still have any feelings for a guy like Ronald. She’d never once said she loved him, but back in the beginning, she’d always mentioned loving Ronald.
Butler Ted had a sudden idea, seizing his chance to save the situation. “Maybe she thinks you’re like the moon? You’re gentle and unreachable as moon; no one else compares!”
Holden’s lips curved slightly, but he was far from convinced he was any kind of gentle moon.
“Get the plane ready.”
Butler Ted breathed a sigh of relief. “Right away, sir.”
Whoever started this mess could be the one to put it out.
