A few days later, Sarah wrapped up filming. When she did, she made sure to order a big cake and share it with the crew.
Everyone had dropped their cold attitude from before and was congratulating Sarah on finishing her scenes.
Crystal and Edward still had a lot of scenes left; they didn’t know how many more months they’d be shooting. Director Beck was known for being a perfectionist-if it didn’t meet his standards, he wouldn’t let it pass.
Crystal was really bummed about Sarah leaving and kept sighing. “Sarah, with you gone, who am I gonna play games with? Hey, you sure you don’t want to make me your master in the game? I’ll buy you a mount with real money.”
Sarah replied, “Crystal, you’re worse than me, a newbie. Let’s not talk about taking me on as your apprentice, okay?”
Edward, still a bit awkward and standoffish because he felt guilty about what happened earlier, said, “If you’re ever out of work, give me a call. Your acting’s pretty decent.”
Sarah said, “Oh, thank you.”
She wasn’t about to turn down resources from someone of Edward’s caliber.
Director Beck patted Sarah on the shoulder. “Sarah, don’t forget about me once you’re done here.”
Sarah responded, “Uh, Director, don’t get all handsy. I don’t want people saying I got cast because of the casting couch.”
“…”
Director Beck was a bit taken aback. Even if she gave him eight hundred guts, he wouldn’t dare.
Director Beck then said, “I’m thinking of shooting a film set in the 1980s next. The story is really interesting. Would you like to learn more about it?”
Sarah’s eyes lit up. “Are you making me the lead?”
Director Beck quickly clarified, “Not exactly.”
Sarah didn’t quite fit the type he had in mind for his next project. She was too beautiful for the lead role he envisioned-the character’s look just didn’t match her.
The main thing was, that Director Beck had his eye on her husband’s money. If the big boss was willing to invest a hundred million or two, that would be ideal.
Director Beck sighed, “Sarah, make sure to talk me up in front of your friends and family.” Especially in front of your husband. He added quietly in his heart
Sarah didn’t know at that moment that Director Beck had found out she was married. Not many people knew about her marriage to Holden.
Holden was a pretty low-key guy and rarely appeared in public. The media didn’t dare to spy on him, and it wasn’t easy to dig up any information about the Smith family online.
The more powerful the family, the more they tended to keep a low profile, making them seem very mysterious to outsiders.
After wrapping up filming, Sarah returned to Holden’s house.
Butler Ted seemed to let out a sigh of relief when he saw her come back. During the time Sarah was away, the Smith household had been cold and quiet, lacking any sort of liveliness.
Even though the young lady of the house loved to make noise and eat snacks on the sofa-habits that were completely opposite to Holden’s and that the housemaids found a bit hard to adapt to-the place felt strangely empty without her. Butler Ted wasn’t quite used to it.
Sarah peeked in. “Is Mr. Holden not home today?”
“Young Master has an important meeting today,” Butler Ted replied with a smile. “Did your work wrap up?”
Sarah nodded.
Filming had been pretty exhausting lately. Even though Crystal had introduced her to a new role, Sarah chose not to jump right into another project. She wanted to take a break and reflect for a bit.
“Mr. Holden has been very busy with work lately, rarely at home. Most of the time, he even has to fly abroad,” Butler Ted reminded her. “You should be careful not to upset him.”
Sarah blinked. “Mr. Holden’s been in a bad mood recently?”
Butler Ted nodded. He genuinely liked Sarah, which is why he gave her a kind reminder. Otherwise, he would just let her walk right into trouble without warning.
Butler Ted was worried that she might take his well-intentioned reminder as a direct order, and then, to prove she was different, she’d do the exact opposite.
But Sarah was pretty sensible. She didn’t think she was anything special in Holden’s eyes. She was more worried that if she accidentally pissed him off, she’d get packed up and thrown out of the mansion.
“Okay, got it,” Sarah nodded.
Butler Ted continued, “Oh, by the way, some brands sent over the latest seasonal collections. Mr. Holden paid the bill for you, and I’ve put everything in your room.”
Sarah was shocked, “!!!”
She hurried upstairs and opened her bedroom door, tearing into the packaging one by one. Most of them were luxury clothes and bags, all the latest models for the season, totaling a couple million.
These were what the original Sarah used to get. After marrying Holden, her spending had skyrocketed, and she had the brands send her the new collections every season. But those expenses were always covered by herself and had nothing to do with Holden.
Sarah tried on each piece, admiring herself in the mirror, when there was a knock on the door.
Butler Ted said, “Lady, to celebrate your wrap-up, I got a cake. Let’s all have some.”
Sarah asked, “Butler Ted, you ordered it just for me?”
Butler Ted nodded.
Even though Sarah and the crew had already eaten a lot, she felt like she could still eat more.
Butler Ted watched her enjoying herself after wrapping up the shoot and felt a bit like a proud grandparent, also feeling quite happy.
After they finished eating, the housekeeper cleaned up the table, and Sarah lay on the couch watching TV. There was this live food show that had been super popular lately, and Sarah would watch it when she had some time in the evening.
And then Sarah saw a familiar face on the screen.
With the beauty filter effects of the show, Elisa looked particularly stunning, appearing delicate and pitiful as soon as she came on.
It was quite a shock!
With a “click,” Sarah turned off the TV.
“Elisa, Ronald…”
Sarah felt frustrated.
Why did those two pop up everywhere? No matter where she went, she seemed to run into them.
Could this be the curse of becoming the villainess in her story? As she tried to escape the original plot, it kept changing, continuously trapping her in situations involving the male and female leads.
Until, in the end, she’d be utterly ruined by them-losing her money, status, and looks, while her friends around her met tragic ends, each dying miserably.
The story would unfold to its conclusion just as it was originally written.
“Still thinking about your childhood sweetheart?”
Holden’s voice broke through her thoughts as he came in, hearing her muttering Ronald’s name.
Seeing her looking so downcast and sad, he figured she was lovesick over that man, depressed to the point of illness.
