17. Devil back

Book:Bought By My Brother's Best friend Published:2025-2-8

I was completely puzzled by her words because I was sure I hadn’t seen her before, but looking at her this close, I was sure that she was Ansell’s sister because they had many features in common, especially those dark eyes that were covered with thick lashes.
“How can I not when you were in the mind of my brother all the time?” She responded to me. A small, genuine smile played on her lips.
“Huh?” Confusion gripped me.
Her brother? Why did he used to think about me? I am sure he must be thinking about ways to hurt me.
“Sit” she said, patting the corner of the bed for me to sit.
I hesitated for a moment, contemplating the offer, before I gave in and settled where she asked me to. Her hand reached out to a drawer, and she retrieved cream from it.
“Ansell and I are twins” she revealed, her eyes sparkling, showing how much she loves her brother.
The thing that surprised me was that Ansell had a twin, and I was completely aware of that, especially when he visited our house so many times and practically knew every relative of ours.
He took advantage of our sweethearts, by getting all our information but not sharing anything about himself.
“As much as he was protective of me, he never wanted the college to know about our relationship. That’s why no one except his best friend and my best friend knew that we are twins”. She sighed, as her eyes blinked once, “So, it isn’t a surprise that you didn’t know me”
“So you were in the same class as my brother?” I asked her.
She nodded softly, her eyes deeply locked into mine. I could see a flash of pain pass through her eyes as I mentioned my brother.
“Then why haven’t I seen you before when I was in the same college?” I was three years younger than Ansell and William, but our college was the same.
She chuckled, her lips twisting into a smile.
“Because your focus was always on Ansell. How could you notice anyone else?” She commented with a soft smile. The way she’s talking to me right now, she doesn’t seem like the same person who was thrashing around that night.
My ears turned red as I looked down, biting my lips.
“Now I consider that the biggest mistake of my life” I muttered under my breath, I didn’t want her to hear me, but the silence of the room didn’t help.
“Why are you saying that?”
I looked up, closed my eyes, gathered my thoughts, and shook my head.
“I am sure you are saying this by looking at the devil’s side of my brother. But you don’t really know him. There are always two sides to a story, and we often make judgements by listening to only one side” she murmured.
I believe that there are always two sides to a story, which is why I am unable to accept what Ansell has said about my brother. I want to know the story of both sides before making any judgment. But in my case, nothing could justify what Ansell was doing to me.
It is barbaric and unacceptable, especially when I haven’t done anything.
“The way he is treating me I don’t think that he ever had any soft side for me” I tried to hold myself, not to say anything negative about her brother but I couldn’t.
I blurted out in the flow of the emotions and now I am regretting it.
“Has he not told you anything about the past, the college days?” She inquired, her gaze probing.
I shook my head.
I barely had any conversation with him in college, and now that wea re together, I don’t want to see his face.
“Then I am not at a place to tell you anything. For now, just know that he has a soft spot for you in his heart. He is not as Devil full as he shows” she assured me.
She is saying things because she knows the good side of her brother, not the evil. If she is saying that he may have had something for me in his head in the past, but not anymore. Now all he wants is to give me as much pain as he can. And now I hate him with every fiber of my being.
She squeezed out the cream on her finger, Which was still in her hand. She leaned forward and spread the salve on my neck slowly and gently, making sure that she was not hiring me anymore with her actions. Her touch was completely opposite from her brother’s.
As we were close now, I could see her wounds easily.
“Your wounds are deeps” I observed.
“It’s all thanks to your brother”” her voice was barely above a whisper, but in the stillness of the room, her words resonated clearly.
She then tilted my head and applied the slave on the other side of my neck.
“I cannot believe it”I admitted loudly.
William was so protective and caring for me. I can never think of him hurting a bee, let alone a woman, and that too in such a barbaric way. It seems like someone has hurt her with a knife.
I shuddered at the mere thought. I can’t even imagine how painful it must be for her.
“I wouldn’t have believed it either” she said, pointing to my wound, “if you hadn’t told me earlier”
She let out a sigh before putting the cream aside, satisfied that she had spread it thoroughly on my wounds. Little did she know that the wounds on my heart are deeper than those that are visible on my skin.
“If I am not wrong, he must have brought you here for the deeds of William” her words once again grabbed my attention.
I bite my lower lip as my gaze once again cascaded down.
“I can’t believe him. What he is doing to you is definitely not right”
“I… I want to ask you something ” i managed to say somehow. My voice was hesitant, but it was determined because I wanted to know the truth anyway.
She tilted her head, asking me to go ahead.
“Your brother told me that… That my brother raped…” I gulped as I couldn’t form the word.
If is such a serious crime. I couldn’t even think that my own brother could do this to some other girl when he was so protective towards me.
“Yes, this is true”
Her eyes began to well up with tears, so she shifted her head back, rested it on the headboard, and looked upwards as if seeking strength from above to hold back the wave of emotions threatening to overwhelm her.
“No!” I yelled.
“I know this is hard to believe for you, but this is the truth. Behind that innocent face lurked the devil”
She clenched her teeth and clenched the bed sheet tightly. I could see the same rage in her eyes as I in Ansell’s.
“How… Why?”
“Because he used to like me and I rejected him” a loud gasp escaped her throat as she tried not to cry. She is stronger than she seems. “He used to court me and tried multiple times. I didn’t tell anything about him to Ansell because I always admired their strong bond and didn’t want to become the reason for the rivalry between them”
But as far as I know, he used to like someone else! The girl likes him back because I have got him talking over the multiple times.
“But.. but.. ” I struggled to gather my thoughts.
“I know for you it is very hard to believe but this is the truth”
She sighed and drea a deep breath.
“He tortured me and did things that I can’t even explain; that’s why I ki…”
“Ansell is home” he interrupted her abruptly, my heart racing as I heard the familiar honk of Ansell’s car pulling up.
Startled, I shot to my feet, my eyes darting around the room in a state of panic.
“I need to get out of here” I uttered, my voice filled with urgency and fear.
“Calm down, be seated. He won’t do anything” she said, but I couldn’t understand it as my mind was clouded by fear.
“Please have your lunch and take medicines, and do not let Ansell know that I came here. Please”
Hastily, I turned around and was about to leave the room when Ansell entered, and the ground below me slipped. His steps also halted, as the least he was expecting was for me to be here.
“What are you doing here?” His voice was dangerously thick.
He took three big and fast steps, ready to kill me. A shiver ran down my spine, and my breathing became quick and heavy.
“Brother, I called her” Desy said from behind.
“Why?” Ansell’s question was direct and demanding, his gaze flicking briefly to his sister before locking onto me once again.
“I was getting bored, so.. ” she shrugged, her voice trailing off.
“Go to the room and wait for me” his command resonated in the room, leaving no space for argument.
I nodded and hastily made my way out, tripping on the way. As I was stepping out, I heard him from behind.
“And think of any other better excuse if you want to lie again” his words were directly at his sister.
He knows the she is lying. Nothing can be hidden from him.
I made my way back to the room, praying that he wouldn’t punish or hurt me this time. I was just trying to help his sister.
God help me get out of this situation.
