CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND SIXTY-THREE
CATHERINE’S POV
The news of Jaxon’s death came as a shock, not to me but to my children most especially because they all saw him as a father figure, I mean he was there for us at a point in our lives even though he ended up betraying me, I still adored him for the good things he did.
There was nothing in this world that would have made Jaxon’s killer do what they did, I mean everyone makes mistakes.
I kept on thinking about Jaxon and all the good times we have spent together, it’s hard to let him go like that because, at a point in my life, I did care for him, but well what can I say?
Jaxon was supposed to be a very huge help in taking Hayley down but now that he is gone I need to restrategize, all I can do now is wonder who might have killed him.
After reminiscing about the moments we had spent together I knew I had to do something because whoever did that to Jaxon was coming for my family and I had to be way ahead of the person.
I went up to Nikky’s room and she was behind the mirror as usual.
“Mum”, she called out my name.
“Nikky there is no time for your tantrums, the first man you ever knew as your father is dead and now we need to restrategize because my daughter whoever did that to him is coming for us”, I cut her shut immediately, I knew all she wanted to do was rant on how I did not knock before barging into her room but I on the other hand did not have time for her nonsense.
“So mum, what are we going to do, because as it is now I have run out of ideas, or anything it just seems like Hayley is way ahead of us, at this point I think that your initial intention to go back to Chicago is what we should stick with because I am tired, it’s always from one drama to another”, Nikky sighed.
“Don’t say that, we cannot go back now, it’s dangerous out there, and besides this Mansion is your birthright you’re expected to fight for it, fight with it, protect it, never run from your problems”, I said angrily.
” Okay, but I do not want to lose any of you fighting for a mere building and some wolves who wouldn’t even respect you, I am tired of this charade Mum, sincerely”, she sighed.
I knew I had to be calm with her, I understood what she was going through because I was also very tired of all this mess.
” Nikky darling, I know you are tired, I am too, but we can’t let the enemy win over us and besides if we go, who is going to watch over your dad?”
“He would come with us, he would leave this life”, she replied.
“An alpha leaves his pack, how is that possible, where have you ever heard of that happening? An alpha’s ego means everything to him and that Ego is his pack, and besides no one says we would be safe in Chicago, Jack died in Chicago remember”.
“Okay, okay, enough of the preaching already, I’ve gotten your point but what are we going to do about this situation now”? Nikky questioned.
“Well for starters I suspect it was that witch that killed him because you know he was an obstacle and he had threatened her countless times that he would turn himself in if she didn’t pay him, so yeah it’s definitely Hayley”, I said.
“Well you are right, but you know how Jaxon was, he had a lot of enemies, sincerely I feel it could have been anybody personally”, Nikky replied.
” She is at the top of my list though”, I said.
I was so sure that Hayley did it, everything pointed at her, the fact that she had not been in the mansion for days, the fact that when she finally came she sat in the living room and that bad news came in, it was no coincidence, it’s Hayley.
“What are we going to do now?” Nikky asked.
“I don’t know, I don’t know”,
I had run out of ideas, I seriously did not know what to think about, and I was getting really angry because of how helpless I had become
“Fuck, I don’t know what to do”, I cursed.
” Language mum, language”, Nikky said.
” I’m sorry, it’s just so frustrating trying to figure out a way out but not being able to”, I scoffed.
” Calm down, it’s a process it would take time, but it would surely come, an idea to take that woman down would come, now I want you to go to your room and take a nap”, she said tapping me on my shoulders.
I stood up from the bed with a frown on my face. I was tired. I could have just stayed back in Chicago and focused on my career. Burke is the cause of ruining my life now, as I was lamenting about my sorrows and worries and the idea struck me immediately.
“Yes, yes yes”, I screamed in excitement.
I ran back quickly to Nikky’s room and entered with so much happiness.
“Mum, I told you a few seconds ago to go and rest and that something will come up”, she said without facing me.
” Cut me some slack Nikky, what if I told you that something has come”, I said smiling at her.
She turned her chair to face me and I made sure she didn’t miss the smile on my face,
” What is this idea of yours that you can’t wait for even a few minutes before you share?”
“Hazel”, I said with excitement.
“Hazel, I don’t understand, what about Hazel, who is Hazel?” She asked, she looked so confused and lost at the mention of Hazel’s name.
” Hazel, the one that worked with me in the hospital, do you remember her now?”, I asked.
” Yeah, sure, what about her, how has she got anything to do with this?”.
“I’ll get her to investigate Jaxon’s death and find his killers”, I said with a wicked smile enveloping my face.
