CHAPTER EIGHTY-FOUR
BURKE’S POV
It fell silent for some minutes, my sister’s words were still settling down in my head.
Catherine can’t be dead, I saw her this morning.
“What happened Ava?” Diago asked, seeing that I had lost the ability to form any word.
Ava was crying too much, that we could barely hear her explanation.
“What happened to my bride Ava? Speak the fuck up,” I thundered, feeling all the hairs in my body begin to stand; I was slowly losing consciousness, and my wolf was getting the better of me.
“You have to calm down, Alpha; we can’t handle this if your wolf is out of control; look at your kids; they are getting frightened of you,” Diago whispered.
I turned to look at my kids and they were hiding behind a chair, crying with fear in their eyes. It hurt me to see them like that.
Immediately I calmed down and gestured for them to come to me, but they initially refused.
“Come on, daddy’s not gonna hurt you,” I said, and they ran towards him and hugged me tightly.
I bent to their height and hugged them back; they kept crying and sobbing, and their tears were already soaking my suit jacket.
“Daddy is it true that mummy is dead,” Nikky asked, with a shaking voice as they released me from the hug.
How was I going to tell them that they were right, and their mother was dead, and my wife-to-be is fucking dead.
“That I can’t say, but I want you guys to go back to the mansion and lock yourself up in your room while I check what’s happening,” I said to them, and they nodded their heads in approval.
They followed the guards and waved me goodbye.
“What happened Ava?” I asked, with my voice filled with impatience and anger; I didn’t want to believe that Catherine was dead; she is the strongest woman I know of, she is a very fucking hard woman to kill.
“I went to check up on Catherine and beg her to still make me her bridesmaid for my brother’s wedding; that’s all I have ever wanted since I was a kid, but when I got there….. ” Ava burst into another round of tears before she could complete her Statement.
“But what Ava, I don’t have that patience,” I said, harshly with my heart beating faster than normal.
“I saw her house was burnt to ashes, Burke immediately I ran here to deliver the news to you,” She said, still crying.
“A house got burnt in the pack? That’s very fucking weird; it has never been heard of,” Diago said, perfectly arching his eyebrows.
He was right, houses getting burnt are hardly heard of, except they burnt the house down intentionally.
“Where have you been since Ava, I haven’t seen you in the mansion since I got here for the wedding,” Diago asked, folding his hands on his chest.
“I… I… I… ” Ava stuttered, unable to form a speech; I am sure she was too traumatized to even speak; beside her, whereabouts are not our fucking business right now; Catherine is.
“That is not the issue, Diago; we need to go to Catherine’s house and tell the people that the wedding is over,” I said to Diago, and he nodded his head respectfully before turning to the people, who are still in awe that Catherine is dead.
“The wedding isn’t holding again; please go back to your various houses; the Alpha will spread any necessary news soon,” Diago yelled. There was grumbling and murmurs from the people, but they respected my wish anyway.
Soon the garden was empty, with one Ava Diago and I with few guards.
“We need to go to Catherine’s house now,” I ordered and Diago and Ava followed behind with two guards at my side.
“What about Susan?” I asked Ava as we walked, and she shrugged her shoulders.
“I don’t know, I didn’t enter the burnt house, I was too scared to do that,” Ava said, and I nodded my head in response.
We got into the car and drove to Catherine’s house.
It took nothing less than fifteen minutes to get to her house, and truly her house was burnt down to the ground.
“Fuck,” I cursed under my breath, hitting the steering wheel as I stared at Catherine’s burnt house.
Quickly, I rushed out of the car into the bunt house, with Diago and Ava trailing behind me.
I saw a burnt body on the floor, and my heart continued beating fast; as I flipped the body over to check if it was Catherine’s body, I took her left hand to check if there was a mark there, and there was, exactly, the mark on Catherine’s hand.
“Catherine,” I called her name as tears rolled down my eyes, memories of us together came back to me, and I held her hands tightly, weeping profusely.
I have never felt this kind of heart arch, not even when my father or mother died. I was never going to see the love of my life.
Ava and Diago left me to weep, as they searched the environment for something.
“Alpha Burke, there is something that’s right here,” Diago said, and I turned to look at him with a question in my eyes.
“What is that?” I asked, still heartbroken.
“This looked like they planned her death,” Daigo said, very sure of his accusations.
I stood up to my feet immediately because if this was a murder, I’d get the accomplice and boil him to death.
“Why would you think like that? Everyone loved Catherine,” Ava said, shocked about Diago’s accusations.
“Mam Ava, all the fire extinguisher was removed from this house; I checked the locks, and it looked like they had locked Mam Catherine in the house intentionally,” He said, and I found sense in what he said, but the problem was who would want to kill Catherine? Harley doesn’t know Catherine’s new house, so it can’t even be her.
“There were two people in the house; we found one body,” Diago said, and my eyes widened in surprise, realizing what he was insinuating.
“Susan killed Catherine and ran away,” Ava said, loudly, reading my thoughts.
“I’ll kill that fucker,” I said, fuming in anger.
