CHAPTER SEVENTY-TWO
CATHERINE’S POV
We all stood in silence for about ten minutes before Emma spoke up.
“The moon goddess is crazy,” She said and stormed out of the room angrily. I was expecting her to do more than that, but luckily she didn’t.
“Are you serious about that Catherine?” Burke asked, and I nodded in response; I was serious about everything I said, but Emma was right when she said the moon goddess was crazy.
“Why the fuck didn’t you tell me that fucker came here? She killed Jack and almost killed our son, and wanted to kidnap our daughter, and you still let her go,” Burke scolded. I don’t blame him for that; I was stupid to let her go.
“Trust me, Burke, I know that was a very stupid move but aside from that, why would I feel a family bond with Harley when she isn’t even family, that’s weird, I think they are up to something and got hell from the witches,” I said, and Burke looked at me like I was stupid.
“I think you were overthinking, or you were just stressed about our fight, baby. The moon goddess would never make Harley your sister; besides, you were trained by your foster parents because your parents died,” He said, but I shook my head at that, it wasn’t true.
“I was abandoned, Burke, I never knew my family,” I said, and Burke smiled.
“That’s even better; if Harley is your sister, then why will your parents abandon you and take care of her,” Burke said, and he was right in a way; Harley can’t be part of my family.
“You are right, but what about Emma? She isn’t doing great, that I know, and she needs healing; what can be done to help her?” I asked and Burke shrugged, clueless in what to do.
“You can’t help a grieving woman, Jack was her husband and fated mate, their love was very fucking strong, we can’t do anything to help except to let her grieve till she is ready to move on,” He said, rubbing his beard, but I was convinced about what he said.
“She wouldn’t have been able to take care of her kids, so I took them to stay with their grandparents, but she needs to heal, her kids need her,” I said, and Burke nodded.
“Emma is a fucking strong woman Cathie, she will heal and it’s a promise, but if you insist of trying to assign in her healing process you are free to try, although I don’t think she will let you, when she is brainwashed that you are among her husband killer,” He said standing to his feet.
He was fucking right, Emma won’t listen to me if I try to say anything.
“I need to see the kids, I’ll be right back,” I said, after minutes of silence.
Burke nodded and before he could say a thing, I stormed out of the room.
“I hated his shoes,” I said to myself, looking at my shoes that were made with ugly leather.
Soon I bumped into someone and looked up immediately, only to see Ava glaring at me.
“Whores can’t see, they can only steal people’s man,” She said rudely, as she rested her body on one foot and folded her hands below her breast.
“I bet you aren’t talking to me,” I said calmly, not in the mood to exchange words with Ava, she had been angry with me since Harley’s departure.
“I am, you are the only whore standing here, and you can’t even treat my brother well like the way other whores like Regina do,” She said, still glaring at me.
“At least I gave him kids and they didn’t,” I said, smiling because she began fuming in anger.
“Anybody can do that, besides how sure are we that the kids aren’t Jaxon’s huh?” She asked, thinking her words will get to me.
“Do your calculation Ava,” I retorted and stormed away, smiling.
Although I wondered how she knew my ex-fiance’s name, I shoved the thought off.
Ava has been acting suspicious, but I don’t have a reason to suspect her of anything and if I do that, Burke would be very angry at me.
Soon I was at my kids room, and they were all sleeping soundly on the bed.
“You can retire for the day Susan,” I said to Susan, who was sitting in front of my kids bed and looking very tired.
“I don’t think that would be possible mam, I need to protect them and if it means sleeping here, so be it,” She said, and I smiled at her, she was the best gift the moon goddess gave me and her loyalty was unquestionably.
“I insist you can rest Susan,” I said, but she shook her head.
“I feel someone in the mansion works for Harley, and if I leave the kids for a second, they will be in trouble, don’t worry, I’ll be fine here, I have the power of an Hybrid, you can leave and sort things out with Alpha Burke,” She said, smiling tiredly at me.
“Thank you Susan,” I whispered, placing my hands on her shoulder.
She looked up at me and smiled.
“It’s been a pleasure working for you,” She said and with that I left my kids room.
I hoped not to see Ava as I walked to the room Burke and I share, Ava was a pain in the ass and I wanted to avoid her at all cost.
Luckily I didn’t see her, I opened the door of our room and found two guards there and Burke nowhere to be found.
“The Alpha requested your presence in the living room, immediately mam,” One of the guards said, and my heart began to race, what the hell does this mean?
“I’ll be behind you,” I said.
“There is no need to be afraid, he just needs your presence, you can’t be behind us mam,” They replied to my request and I nodded.
I turned to leave the room with the guards behind me. Soon, we were in the living, and my mouth fell open because it was decorated with my name.
The living room was decorated with blue, my favorite color. I looked down only to see Burke on one knee with an engagement ring in his hands.
The living room was surrounded by board members, Alphas of different packs, and even the Lycan king was present.
“Will you marry me, Catherine Tyler,” Burke asked, grinning, but I was speechless, not sure of what to say.
“Say yes,” Everyone in the living room began to yell excitedly.
“No, Burke, I can’t marry you,” The sentence came out from my lips before I could process it, and the room was filled with murmurs immediately. Burke was still on his knees, staring at me with shock in his eyes.
What the fuck have I done?
