CHAPTER SIXTY-TWO
BURKE’S POV
“Mummy,” We heard Catherine’s kids screaming and crying and we ran into Catherine’s room.
“You said you would be early,” The Little boy said, running to give Catherine a hug, a tight hug; Catherine bent to his height and hugged him back.
“I’m sorry baby, I got delayed,” Catherine said, hugging her children tightly.
I looked at the little girl, and she looked familiar, and I could not deny the kind of bond I felt towards them, probably because they were Catherine’s children and Catherine was my mate.
“I know you,” the little girl said, looking at me with her big round eyes.
“I do too, but I can’t remember where we met,” I replied to her with a wide smile, which made her chuckle.
“At my mother’s hospital, you saved me,” She said, running to hug me, I picked her up from the ground and hugged her back.
Catherine looked at me, shocked; she gets surprised anytime I try to feel attached to get kids, probably because she loved their father very much.
“Mummy, I thought you said he is a bad man,” her daughter asked, looking at Catherine but still wrapped around my arms.
“What? Why would you say that?” I asked Catherine, wondering why she would paint me black in front of her kids.
“I did mean it that way; I thought you were one of Harley’s men who tried to kidnap her at my hospital,” Catherine explained, hitting her forehead; it felt stupid to think I was one of Harley’s men.
“Is Harley hunting you?” I asked, shocked, remembering the lady I bumped into at the hospital, the familiar scarf she left with me, and the color of her hair was exactly the color of Harley’s hair; why didn’t I remember it was Harley?
“Yes, she tried to kidnap Nikky, and she placed Rikky in the hospital bed by cutting his body with a blade,” Catherine explained, and I felt my anger increasing; I regretted coming to Chicago without some men.
“And she raided your house while you were away, Harley isn’t working alone,” I said, and Catherine nodded in response.
“That is true; she is working with a lady close to you, or one of your maids, Because when I was kidnapped by two ladies, the other lady was smarter than Harley; she made sure she didn’t show my face,” Catherine explains, and she was fucking right.
The only lady I was close to aside from Catherine was my sister Ava, and Ava isn’t capable of anything bad, especially murder; she hated blood, and she isn’t as smart as Harley; the person would be among my staff, and they are certainly from Hoang Pack.
“I think they are working with Sereca,” I said, certain that Sereca had something to do with this.
“That’s true; I even caught Jaxon having sex with Sereca when I got back from the pack,” Catherine said, and I looked at her surprised.
I never knew Sereca was that angry that she would want to pay me back for banishing her and sending her to North Turret; although she deserved everything she got, it was only her children who were innocent, but I was too angry to see that.
“Unrelated, though, But you look like my brothers,” Catherine’s daughter said as I dropped her to the ground.
I chuckled nervously and looked at Catherine, who didn’t find it funny; she looked guilty, making me wonder why.
“Are you alright?” I asked, concerned.
“Yes, I am,” She replied to my question, looking away.
“You look unstable; if it’s about your daughter’s comment about me looking like your kids, I am not offended; I find it a privilege to look like my mate’s kids,” I assured her, but she didn’t respond to me.
“Don’t say that Nikky; Jaxon said Burke is our father, but he doesn’t love us, so he abandoned us,” Her son whispered into Nikky’s ea, r, but Catherine and I could still hear them.
I stood there shocked, and unable to control my shock, my eyes widened in surprise. I am the fucking father to Catherine’s children.
“I don’t understand, Catherine. Did you hear that?” I asked, but she looked around, looking guilty as charged; she couldn’t even say a word.
“Your Alpha is talking to you, and he wants an answer to his question now,” I ordered with authority in my voice; I don’t know why, but my temper was rising. Catherine had my children all along, and I raised another man’s children.
“Mummy, they left a letter before running off through the window when you came to the house,” Nikky yelled when Catherine was about to talk.
Catherine saw it as an opportunity and left immediately to collect the letter from her daughter’s hands.
Catherine looked scared as she read the letter and she could give it to me immediately.
“What is in there?” I asked, collecting the letter from her.
“Read it, Burke, and stop asking questions,” She ordered, and I opened the letter to read.
It read;
We are on our way to Eco Hotel; you aren’t going to see Burke again, I hope you said goodbye.
I looked at her smiling in triumph.
“Assholes, they wouldn’t be able to find me,” I said and Catherine gave me a stern stare, making me wonder what I did wrong.
“Is there a problem?” I asked, confused.
“Jack is in the hostel, Burke; they will get to him,” She said, and I realized she was right; we had left Jack alone at the hotel.
“Fuck,” I cursed, not minding the kids that were present.
“Language please,” Catherine scolded before grabbing the car keys and heading towards her edit door.
“I am driving now; you aren’t at peace right now,” Catherine yelled, but I was still there thinking of the worst things that might have happened to Jack; I would blame myself if Jack died; what would I even tell his wife?
“Mummy, are you leaving us again,” Nikky asked, almost crying.
“No baby, you are coming with me,” Catherine said and the kids ran towards her.
“Are you coming, or are you still going to stay there and wait till Jack is dead,” Catherine asked, jolting me back to reality.
“We have to be quick,” I told Catherine and she nodded.
Soon we were in Catherine’s car, and her kids were seated at the back in the passenger seat while Catherine drove.
“Here we are,” Catherine said as we packed at the Eco Hotel; within a few minutes of driving Catherine drove at high speed, making me think we would be involved in an accident, although her children loved the ride.
We got out of the car, leaving the kids inside, even if they fought that they wanted to come along, it wasn’t safe.
I opened the door of my hotel room only to see Jack on the fall covered with blood.
“Jackkk,” I yelled.
