CHAPTER FIFTY
BURKE’S POV
I waited till the train was gone before driving back to my mansion.
I had a board meeting later that day, but I didn’t plan on going, the emptiness in my heart was there, making my heart heavy.
When I got to the mansion, I went straight to my room. Ava was calling me, but I didn’t bother giving her a response.
I lay on my bed and ordered my domestic staff to ensure I didn’t get disturbed.
Within minutes, I heard my window opening and I jumped out of my bed, only to see my sister trying to get into my room through the window.
“Are you going to help me or not? Probably you would love to watch me die,” she said, trying to get into my room, but the window was opened a little, making her stuck in between.
“What the fuck were you thinking, trying to enter my room through the window,” I asked, grumbling.
I got off my bed angrily and opened my window fully, giving her full access to my room.
When she entered my room fully, she looked up at me and smiled, but I returned her smile with a frown; I didn’t appreciate the fact she was disturbing my alone time; that was the major reason I ordered the domestic staff to ensure I don’t get disturbed.
“I was worried, okay? You came back from the train park hours ago and locked yourself indoors,” She said, going to sit on the empty chair opposite my bed.
“You know I would be fine, why then disturb me?” I asked, folding my hands on my chest.
“Burke, believe it or not, you are all I have, I need to ensure you don’t die like our father,” She said sadly, and I wanted to punch myself in the face for making Ava sad.
I went to where she was and bent down to her height level, I cupped her face and said;
“I am a hard man to kill, I can’t die like our father, so there is nothing to worry about,”
She smiled at my statement of assurance, making her dimple appear on the left side of her cheek. Ava and I didn’t look alike anywhere, but we had a few similarities, like the presence of a dimple on the left side of our cheeks, the color of our eyes, and our hair.
“You need a Luna Burke; it won’t take time before the board members start asking that of you,” She said, and she was right.
I cannot be an Alpha without my Luna, but my mate rejected me because I rejected her years ago; what will I do about that? Probably the gods want me to be single.
“My mate rejected me, Ava; there’s nothing I can do about that,” I said; Ava looked at me amused.
“What’s funny?” I asked
“Because it’s unlike you to feel self-pity, there are lots of women out there, Burke; pick the most suitable one,” She said, half yelling as she smacked me on the chest.
“Who would I pick? I don’t even know any woman at this point” I explained, but she didn’t buy my explanation.
“I know Harley did a lot of bad things, but she did them because she loved and wanted you, why don’t you consider marrying her because the woman you saved left you for another man,” Ava said, rubbing Catherine’s rejection on my face.
“I would never marry Harley,” I stated, and I meant every word that came out of my mouth.
“But… ”
“That’s enough, Ava, you have overstayed your welcome,” I said, and Ava rolled her eyes.
She stood up and walked towards my door but I stopped her.
“You came through the window,” I said sarcastically, and she angrily went through the window and exited herself.
Ava’s love for Harley was becoming Alarming, I didn’t know why she loved Harley so much and wanted me to marry her.
“I want to see Burke,” I heard Jack’s voice from outside my room door. He was yelling at the guards to let him see me, but they were reluctant due to the order I made.
“If you don’t leave the way, I’ll break this fucking door down,” Jack threatened the guard, although I knew he meant what he said.
“Burke, you are fucking daring me, brother,” he yelled, his voice sounding angry.
I went to the door angrily and opened it.
“Why can’t I have some alone time?” I asked Jack and he pushed me off the way and entered my room.
“You can’t have alone time because you are the Alpha; there are works to do, so rather sucking over a woman, man up and chase after her,” Jack yelled as I closed the door behind me.
“Be careful with your tone, Jack; you are still speaking to your Alpha,” I warned Jack, who was looking angry.
“You know it doesn’t matter how much you say Alpha if you don’t act like it, the pack members won’t give you that respect,” he yelled, and I knew there was a problem.
“What is the problem?” I asked, worried.
“If you don’t bring a Luna in the next sixty days, your position will go to your uncle, and you know how much he wants to be Alpha,” Jack dropped the bombshell, and I stood speechless.
“How am I supposed to get a Luna, Catherine rejected me,” I yelled, pacing around aimlessly in the room.
“You have sixty days to win her heart back,” he said, and immediately, I started packing my clothes into an empty luggage. Jack looked at me surprised; he thought I had gotten crazy.
“What do you think you are doing? Hope you aren’t running away because the pack needs you, your uncle can’t handle the pack,” he said, trying to stop me from packing.
“I am not running away Jack,” I assured him.
“Then where the fuck are you going to packing your clothes?” He asked, with confusion written all over his face.
“You said I have sixty days to win her heart right?” I asked, but it sounded more like a rhetorical question.
“Yes, that’s what the board members came up with,” he replied to my question.
“That’s what I’m doing, I’m heading to Chicago to win her heart,” I stated.
