NERTHUS

I’m about to enter the restaurant to dine with my friend as an anonymous number texts me.
Anonymous: Share your location. This way, I can pick you up as soon as you’re done socializing.
I laugh before I write back.
Amber: Who are you? How can I even send you my location if you are anonymous?
The anonymous sends me a number followed by another text that has me all giddy in anticipation.
Anonymous: You know exactly who I am, Nerthus.
Smiling to myself, I save the number of my gorgeous stalker as ‘Mr. Best-Fuck’ and put my phone back into my purse before walking up to the host.
Gigi is late, as usual, and I take my seat at the bar and order a dry martini. Sipping at my drink, feeling extremely happy, I don’t even bother that I have to wait.
Mr. Best-Fuck: Isn’t he coming?
I laugh again as I look around, but he doesn’t seem to be in here.
Amber: Don’t worry, he is always late. I’m used to it. Tell me, how am I looking tonight?
Mr. Best-Fuck: It’s highly improper behavior to have a lady waiting.
Mr. Best-Fuck: I should teach him a lesson about good manners.
Mr. Best-fuck: You look beautiful. This dress looks gorgeous on you. Is it new?
Amber: Lol. No need to teach him anything. How about you teaching me how to be an actual lady afterwards? Thank you so much. Yes, it’s new. I thought it would suit your taste.
A new text of his reaches my screen just as Gigi steps into the restaurant with a big smile and his arms already open wide to hug me.
“Oh, darling. I’m so sorry. Don’t you look gorgeous!”
“Hey, Gigi. Thanks. I have a date afterwards.”
He leans in to give me a kiss on my cheek before pushing out a long “Oh!”.
I giggle as we get accompanied to our table, and we order some wine straight away.
“So, tell me. This hulk…”
He turns a page in his menu dramatically. “Has he a brother?”
I laugh as I look into the menu myself, not really concentrating on what I’m reading.
“I wouldn’t know. As I said, we don’t talk too much.”
He hums while nodding his head, looking at me seriously, “Well, be quick to ask him. This is some damn good gene-pool.”
I get him to change the subject swiftly, feeling uncomfortable at the thought that he might be watching and hearing me. And I don’t want to come off like some creepy fangirl.
We quickly get talking about my date with Derek and the disaster it nearly ended in. I get around telling the details of the night, but I tell him that it was Arawn that got to me in the end to bring me home safely.
Of course, because I was able to send out my live location to him before Derek snatched away my phone.
And not because he had his mobster men following us.
Gigi is quite impressed about the fact that I sent the location to a client instead of someone else. But fortunately, he lets it go soon enough.
After paying for our dinner and drinks, we get up, leaving the restaurant in a good mood. I’m just about to send my location as Gigi chuckles.
“Oh, hello gorgeous. Babes, your knight is here.”
Looking up, I see Arawn waiting for me leaned against a sleek sports car, lifting his hand to do some kind of manly handshake with Gigi that doesn’t seem to match either of them.
“I wish you a pleasant night.” He lilts and comes over to me to say goodbye with a smack on my cheek. “Have a nice night as well, Gigi.”
“Can we give you a drive home?”
Gigi turns to Arawn with his hand on his chest. “Oh, thank you. But I live just around the corner.”
Turning back towards me, he shakes his head. “And then they say chivalry is dead.”
I squeeze his arm gently and as he starts walking away, I go towards Arawn, waving at him for one last time.
“Be careful, babes.”
As I reach Arawn, he steps away from the car to say hello with a kiss on the cheek.
“Waiting for me outside again?”
“The weather is nice.” He answers simply, and I caress a lock that fell out of his styled hair out of his face.
“You look tired. Is everything alright?”
“Sure.” He answers, sighing. “Let’s go.”
Arawn opens the door for me, and I get into the car. As I lean against the cold leather seat, I realize that he must have been waiting for me quite a bit.
“So, where are you taking me?” I ask him as soon as he gets into the car as well.
Starting the motor, he hums pensively. “There is a nice place not far from here.”
“Awesome.” I reply, still thinking he does seem like he would want to be any other place but here.
He drives in silence as I relax on his passenger seat, feeling strangely comfortable.
As he clears his throat, I nearly can’t believe my ears.
“I don’t have any brothers. Just sisters.”
Was this a genuine personal fact?
I look at him with a smile. “Really? How many?”
He grips the steering wheel, losing it again swiftly.
“Three. I… They are my half-sisters.”
“Oh, that must be nice. But I fear Gigi will be tremendously disappointed by this information.”
He keeps quiet, and I don’t know why I have to ask further.
“Do you get along well?”
“Who?”
“You. With your half-sisters?”
He tsks but flashes me a sad smile anyway.
“I haven’t talked to them. Not since my father died.”
“Oh, I’m sorry about that.”
“You don’t have to be. They are just my half-sisters. And my father’s death got me my job, so…”
It’s incredible how much he talks to me compared to the first times we met.
Nevertheless, now it’s my time to shut up.
I smile at him before I lean back into the sporty car seat.
“Well… getting a recommended position must be really nice.”
He smiles tiredly while I bite my bottom lip, thinking of something I could do. As I look out of the window, I get the perfect idea.
“You know what? Let’s do something else.”
He lifts his brow at me, and I giggle. “Trust me! Take that right turn over there.”
