CHAPTER 96

QUEEN CHRISELDA
“I can’t wait any more. I have to find her.”
To rest became a problem. I had to reach the guards to get themselves ready for a late night journey to Brook Wave.
This kind of job used to be Gamma Dave and Beta Dean’s work, but now I am handling it on my own, since both of them are useless.
I had to tell Thelma about my decision, hoping she would tag along.
My Sorceress agreed, even though she was still upset with my refusal to her demands. She accepted the plan and got herself ready for the journey.
My unexpected mission got to Allen. He looked confused and tried to get an answer out of me.
“At this hour of the night? What’s this journey about?” he asked, glancing at Thelma and I.
Knowing he won’t really understand my mission, I replied, “This is for your future, Allen. We have found the location of the one who posted your video on the internet.”
“Seriously?” My son was pleased with this news.
His eyes filled with delight, as I went on to tell him about my plan. ” We are going to capture that animal and give you the justice you deserve.”
“This is great. But do you need all these armies for one person?” he asked, glancing at the number of guards waiting outside for me.
“You are taking a quarter of our guards,” My son pointed, finding this strange.
For me, the number weren’t enough, if we come face to face with Cadell and that girl. I wanted to take a larger number.
Thelma, who stood by my side, responded to Allen’s question, “Of course we need them, Alpha. We aren’t going up against an ordinary foe, but one who dwells with forces beyond your imagination.”
“Forces? Are you going out to face someone who uses powers?” Allen asked, looking concerned.
“Mother, I think it’s best if you stay back and let me handle this matter on my own. I can’t allow you to get yourself involved in something like this! I am the one who was in that video, not you. Let me go with the sorceress to find this bastard!”
“No, son. You don’t have to get worried. I will be fine,” I said, refusing Allen’s wish.
I calmed his mood by talking about the throne and reminding him of his position. “You are the Alpha. You need to be around and watch over your pack. You don’t have to be worried,” I said, caressing his face. “I have Thelma with me. She’ll protect me.”
“Alright then, as you wish,” he accepted, kissing my hand.
I appreciated my son’s cooperation, before leaving the pack with Thelma and the guards.
I wanted to blast this old woman for sparking fear into my son’s heart, instead of telling him something better! But I held myself back on seeing how silent she sat at my side, staring out to nothing.
“She must be thinking about the spirit wolf and how to save herself,” I presumed, touching the pendant around my neck.
“Until I have the whole power in my possession, I am not losing this pendant, no matter what.”
Our journey lasted till the following morning.
We arrived at Brook Wave pack and met the once beautiful and attractive land, all messy and ruined!
It was a complete disaster!
It looked like a battle took place, wiping the beauty off the face of the land.
Honestly, I was stunned.
Suspicious, I turned to look at Thelma, who immediately glared at me and said, “Don’t think I’m the cause of this, my Queen. Maybe you need to ask before you start pointing accusing fingers.”
She was quick to understand the sign, defending herself.
I hummed and took my attention back at the pack, seeing how the people came together to arrange their place, with the help of a few guards.
“Take us down to the Alpha’s mansion,” I ordered my guard behind the wheel, hoping to get some information.
And from the look of things, I doubt if that girl is still here. Cadell must have taken her away.
We got to the mansion of Brook Wave’s Alpha. The fellow came rushing out with his Luna to welcome me.
“Queen Chriselda and Sorceress Thelma! It’s a great honor to have you in our land. Please, come in!” The Alpha expressed, leading the way.
“The Goddess is wonderful. I was just thinking about you. Oh, we really need your help, my Queen.”
Thelma and I walked into the mansion like we owned the place.
We took our seat in the guestroom, before questioning the Alpha about the sudden disaster on his land.
He responded with a sorrowful heart, telling us how his pack was attacked by vampires.
“They were in large numbers, hovering around the pack! I had to hide in here with my family, while the guards tried to fight them off. But those bloodsuckers were unstoppable,” he shared.
Now it made more sense. No wonder our target was here in Brook Wave. He came with his kind to attack the land.
The Luna backed her husband and shared the horrible story of her encounter with one. “He chanted some spells and almost pulled me out through the window! But all of a sudden, they all stopped and flew away.”
“Exactly,” the Alpha agreed, nodding his head.
Thelma hummed at this matter and asked, “Did you follow them to see where they were heading to?”
“A few guards said they spotted the vampires surrounding a lady. From their description, she looked like the Queen.”
“Oh, a Queen?” I lifted my brow, finding this interesting.
The Alpha couldn’t narrate all that happened, since he wasn’t there. He had to send for the guards who saw it all, and they came in to explain what they had seen.
I was getting fed up of the vampire tale, until one said, “There was a young lady who stepped out to handle the problem. She sparked the rage of the vampires and took them down on her own.”
On hearing that, Thelma and I looked at each other, knowing well that we where on the right track.
“A lady?” I asked, sitting up properly.
The guard confirmed, nodding his head.
“You said she handled them on her own? How exactly?” Thelma questioned.
“It’s something I can’t really explain, your highness. Her speed, her skills… I don’t know how she did it. One can’t tell if she’s even a werewolf or a different being,” he shared, looking confused.
That’s the expression I expect someone to give when they witness the spirit wolf at work.
“Ah yes! He’s not the only one who mentioned it. A few people said they saw this lady with their own eyes. She was amazing!” The Alpha said, praising that girl.
“The vampires fled after she took care of the problem. We were saved all thanks to her.”
“Yes, yes, but did anyone describe how she looked like or maybe took a record of the problem?” I asked, curious to know if these eyewitnesses had a good look of this girl.
But the Alpha shrugged, giving me a senseless reply, “I didn’t ask, Queen Chriselda. I was overwhelmed by the freedom from those bats and thought of informing you about those nasty bats attack. But like I said, the Goddess brought you before I made a call.” He smiled.
Fool! Someone you know nothing about, saved your pack and you didn’t bother to find out who she was?!
How did this idiot become an Alpha?!
“Can we see these eyewitnesses?” Thelma requested. “We need to ask them some questions.”
“Of course. Please, excuse us.”
The Alpha rushed out with his Luna along with two guards, sending the men to summon the people who had seen the bearer of the spirit wolf.
Looking at Thelma, who tapped my hand to get my attention, she said, “I’ll conduct an interrogation and see if I can get her image from their memories.”
Yes, It’s going to be like the Gamma!
Brilliant idea!
An hour later, the guards came back with the people they spoke about.
Thelma decided to be alone with them in a room while I sat with both Alpha and Luna, who tabled their request, seeking for my help in protecting their pack from the vampires.
“This is a sign that those bats are planning to destroy we Werewolves! We need to join forces and wipe them out,” The Alpha said, sounding serious.
I pretended to be interested in their problem by nodding and humming to all they said, but my mind was on Thelma.
“She needs to be fast. I can’t stand this people.”
Just then, I saw the witnesses leaving!
Their presence forced me to my feet and straight for the room Thelma was in. I didn’t even speak to the couple but stormed off.
When I got there, I found my sorceress staring out the window, silently.
Her sudden behavior was a sign. She knows who our target is!
Shutting the door behind, I walked up to Thelma and asked, “Tell me, who is she?”
Her face came turning to my direction, before she delivering a cold response to me. “I would have given you that answer, if you had buried your selfishness and given me what I asked for, my Queen!”
Her temper gave me my answer instantly.
She failed!
She didn’t get anything!
“None of them had a good description nor a record. Their memory was intact, but my powers couldn’t dive in deeper! I had to hide my shame before those people and fake a cleansing spell on them!”
I glared at her, reminding her of her own words, “But you were the one who boldly said you could do it!”
“Because I thought I could still use my powers, which I can’t unleash like before, Chriselda!” she sparked, calling me by my name again!
Angrily, I pointed at her and warned, “Keep my name out of your mouth, Thelma. Don’t forget who I am!”
“And don’t forget that I am the one who made you the Queen you are today. It’s all thanks to me!” she fired back, reminding me of her contribution.
“Don’t you see? My failure is because of you! If you had just listened and given me the dust, I would have seen who the brat is and solved this problem for us! But you are too stubborn!” She pointed back at me.
I couldn’t say a thing but take in her words.
Now I was beginning to question my action. Did I do right by refusing her?
“It is not too late, my Queen.” Thelma said, placing her hands on my shoulder.
“Give me the pendant and I will help you get what rightfully belongs to you. Do the right thing,” she advised, slowly reaching for the necklace. But on remembering the incantation she carried out with the Gamma, I stopped her immediately.
“You had this same result when you tried to fish out her face from the Gamma’s memory. And what happened to you?”
Thelma glowered, understanding were I was going with this.
“She was able to drain you to the weakling you are now. What guarantee do I have that you’ll succeed, if I give you the pendant?”
Silent, Thelma had no response to that question.
“Just as I thought. It’s best you quit your hunger for this dust and endure till the end. Whether we see her face or not, we will surely find her.”
She took her gaze off my point, tightening her hand into a fist to subdue her rage.
“We leave for Wolf Fall anytime from now, so put yourself in order” I commanded, walking out of the room without Thelma.
